I have nothing but trouble since the update... First I was getting odd frozen-mouse level lag on the character selection screen. It would basically freeze the computer for 4 seconds every 2 seconds or so.
FYI, I'm running a 2.4GHz Core 2 Quad. So even 100% CPU use on one proc should not be freezing my cursor, unless the game is trying to run on the same core as the cursor handling (which might indicate a bad processor affinity setting?)
Anyway, I thought it might be a glitch, so restarted and tried again. Now it is hung on the password screen.
Is this a "Reinstall and re-update" situation, or are these known issues with an easier fix?

I'm still not exactly sure what the problem is, first try resetting the graphic options, make sure your video/audio drivers are up to date and then try playing, what exactly is the problem (ie what steps are you taking to encounter the problem?) Posting a dxdiag may help too.

I think I found some work arounds... Hope this helps others:
1) It seems that force-quitting "TurbineLauncher", "TurbineInvoker", and if necessary "ddoclient" via the task manager helps when you are stuck... Do this and try again.
2) Trying again won't always work. I did it three times before it worked for me. However, once I got successfully all the way into the game and then quit properly, it seemed a little more reliable. I still had it hang once though, so that may have just been luck.
3) It seems that if the server doesn't respond in time, the client stops listening for a response and just hangs. That is why killing the processes and retrying can work.
4) Once in the game I had client side lag that I didn't normally have before. This was predictable complete frozen screen lag every 8 to 12 seconds. I found that the client lag can be worked around via graphics settings. But NOT by reducing them.
5) I found I was averaging about 120 FPS on pretty good video settings. Going to the "Troubleshooting" section of user prefs, I set the max framerate to 75 and the lag completely went away.
6) So, I thought, maybe if I just crank up the quality so it naturally has a 75 FPS framerate, the issue would also be gone. This was sorta right... I was able to crank up the quality to "High" or "Very High" almost across the board and the lag didn't return. However, when I turned on triple buffering, it started happening really bad. I also found that extreme (memory intensive) levels of post processing, etc. would cause it to happen again.
CONCLUSION:
About getting into the game: If it hangs, kill all game processes and try again till it works. It's just luck about how quickly the server responds.
About new in-game client lag: Don't necessarily turn down quality, but mess around with limiting the framerate to a little under whatever natural framerate you have. And, if necessary, turn off the memory intensive options (as described via the tooltips)
I think I'm back on track. Thanks!
