Balance of Land and Sky + Tempered... don't work?

I'm having some trouble using the Zaodon crafting calculator. As far as I can tell, to upgrade T3 for an item with T2 BoLaS (Earth/Air) is to add a Fire/Water supershard. It doesn't seem to work in the calculator, though.

TL;DR version: MEA, EOE, EEW, MEF.
Air +6 Dex, Earth Heigtened Awareness 2, Water +2 Exceptional Wis, Fire +2 Exceptional Dex.

The message tells you your error:
"Essence and/or Gems do not match - no special ability"

You must match Essence and/or Gems to get the Elemental Mastery.

Just change your Fire to: +2 Exceptional Int instead, and it works fine.

Except be carefull as you won't get both +2 Exceptional wis AND +2 Exceptional Int. You will get one or ther other (depending on which shard is dominant). Probably +2 wisdom as I think water is dominant over fire.

You mean to say that I have to get the two shards to match Ethereal and Etheral? (Sorry, refining mental framework of how crafting works.*)

If I understand properly this (http://www.iro.umontreal.ca/~delallea/ddo/shroud/cgi-bin/shroud.cgi?forced=&craft=0&effects=plus_6_dex,heightened_awareness_2,bolas_1_ ,elemental_mastery_&item=item&altar=3&weapon=dwarven_axe) is what you have now (with planned Elemental Mastery). The two stats you can increase are either Str or Wis (no Dex).

Yes, the gem and essence type have to match. Only the focus type will not match.
