DDO Release Notes: Module 8
Welcome to the Release Notes for Dungeons & Dragons Online! These release notes were posted Wednesday October 29th, 2008.
[edit] News & Notes
The heroes of Stormreach turn another page in the tale of the Stormreaver, while arriving travelers begin their journey anew unraveling the mystery of a snow-covered tropical island. Danger and excitement awaits new and veteran adventurers alike!
[edit] Of Special Note:
[edit] Prisoners of Prophecy
The epic story of the Stormreaver reborn takes an unexpected turn in this module, as the giant and the dragons of Argonnessen find themselves forced into a fragile alliance against the machinations of the ancient undead dragon, the Truthful One.
Sorjek, once the Stormreaver’s loyal lieutenant, has been brought back from beyond the grave as a terrifying lich giant, hell-bent upon revenge against the heroes that laid him low in life, and tasked in death to steal the souls of dragons and add to the Truthful One’s growing army of dracoliches.
To bring him down (again), players must travel by airship, uncover a hidden atoll, cross great mountains of ice, defeat a scorpion king, and forge into the heart of an infested volcano.
Four challenging new dungeons, four breathtaking wilderness landscapes, and a new two-part public quest hub – all part of the new module 8 high-end content release!
[edit] Revamped New Player Experience
A ship torn to shreds by a mad dragon. A tropical island frozen in mid-summer. A cult of brainwashed villagers laying siege to their former homes, led by evil Devourer sahuagin intent upon spilling innocent blood in the name of their dark God... Welcome to Korthos, where the journey to Stormreach begins!
Players now begin the game in a new tutorial experience on the beach of Korthos Isle. For new players, and old players rolling new characters, the redesigned New Player Experience offers a wealth of adventure, story, and challenge on a level and scale comparable with the cutting edge of current and upcoming MMOs!
* Interactive NPC party members
* Dynamic environmental evolution
* Engrossing new dungeons, such as the Grotto and Misery’s Peak.
A brand new character generation system has also been implemented in the game! Players can now select from a collection of pre-designed character paths or fully customize their character's abilities. You will be able to view your path's progression right in the Compendium!
[edit] DX10 Support
Beta DirectX 10 support has been added to the game! To celebrate, we're having a DX10 screenshot contest that began on Risia, and continues on into the release of Module 8! For more information, click here!
[edit] Hireling News
Hirelings are being introduced to Dungeons & Dragons Online! This massive new system will be introduced to players through a series of live in-game events after the launch of Module 8. Be on the look out for updates on the upcoming Hireling events!
Want to catch a first glimpse of the upcoming Hirelings? Hirelings that will be made available in-game will be viewed in the Compendium! Learn about their names, races, classes, abilities, and available special commands in their Compendium profiles!

Below is a list of some of the Known Issues that we are aware of in the game. Should you come across any of these issues in the game, there is no need to submit a bug report unless otherwise noted.
Current Known Issues (10-29-2008)
Of Special Note
Players have reported that they sometimes have trouble climbing up long ladders due to hitching or becoming caught in the middle of the ladder. Many of these "sticky" ladders have been fixed, but there may be other locations. If you come across a sticky ladder, please submit a bug report from the location of the ladder.
NEW - Be very careful when selecting end rewards if you are approaching your maximum encumbrance (the amount of weight your character can carry). Selecting an end reward while near maximum encumbrance will result in the end reward item not appearing in your inventory, and no longer being available in the end reward selection list . Be sure to reduce your encumbrance prior to selecting an end reward.
NEW - The Anniversary cake has gone a bit stale, and the Djinni of the Cake no longer recognizes his master. We are taking the Djinii to the eye-doctor, and hope to restore his sight so he can continue granting wishes.
NEW - The Quickfoot Gang theives have stolen the old starter equipment from characters that were created prior to Module 8! If you were wearing this equipment prior to Module 8, it will no longer appear on your character or in your inventory when you log in. We recommend that anyone who had partially completed the old Euphonia's Challenge prior to Module 8 start anew with a character on Korthos Isle to acquire new starter equipment.
UI
When examining an item, the full description of effects are not shown automatically. To see description of effects, you'll need to hover over the effect name.
Dying just before completing a quest may cause the "Finish" button to become unclickable. Minimizing the quest objective window and then maximizing it again will fix this issue.
If you're already queuing to PVP using the standard match-up process, and your party chooses to use the new Group PVP functionality instead, your UI may not update to reflect the change. (i.e: It will still appear as if you're queued and waiting for a match-up)
The action point display icon may show an inaccurate number of action points are available for training. This is corrected on log out.
NEW - When leveling up a character not following a pre-generated Path, when selecting an ability stat increase (at 4th, 8th, 12th, and 16th level) the summary page for your new level will incorrectly display an additional point to your chosen ability stat
Spells
Some AOE debuff/cc spells are listed in the tooltips as "Spell Resistance: No", even though they are resistible.
In some cases, a caster may incorrectly receive an error message that they are out of range or that they must face their target, even though this is not the case.
NEW - Casting Protection from Evil on a character, or putting on an item that bestows Protection from Evil, while having a Protection +1 item on will cause your AC to appear lower than it is
Skills, Feats, & Abilities
The DC listed for combat feat tooltips does not include bonuses from enhancements and feats. This is a visual glitch only; they are still being added to the actual DC in combat.
Spell resistance provided by the monk ability Diamond Soul is not displaying properly on the character sheet. This is a visual error only, and the spell resistance is being applied.
NEW - Improved Trip's DC is not being increased by anything other than Strength bonuses. Tactics and Strategy Enhancements are not being taken into account.
Enhancements
We are aware that the Tempest enhancement is incorrectly applying the +2 feat bonus to AC at all times, instead of only while dual wielding.
NEW - The halfling dragonmark of healing cannot currently target undead
Items
Zoning removes the affect of Lesser, Improved, and Greater Regeneration applied by raid loot. Re-equipping the raid loot items after zoning will reapply the effect.
Greensteel bows are currently not properly applying blast effects.
In rare cases, level 10 and level 11 race restricted handwraps were not working as intended. These dysfunctional handwraps will no longer drop. Note that any of these particular handwraps that were previously dropped are still dysfunctional.
NEW - Be careful! When detaching an exclusive item from an email (for example, a medium collectibles bag) if you already have the same exclusive item in your inventory, the detached item will disappear.
NEW - The appearence of Dragontouched Leather Armor is missing some textures
Crafting
Named desert items, such as the Sirroco, bound using the Stone of Change will lose the bound effect when you reenter the game.
Items fixed using the Stone of Change will sometimes not display the updated effects. This is a display bug only. Removing, and then re-equipping, the item will show the updates to the item.
Monsters
King Raiyum is a bit smarter than the average undead ruler, and avoids spawning into AoEs when possible. If you do cast AoEs onto King Raiyum before he spawns, and he does not spawn: leave the room , allow the AoE spells to expire, and then return to the room. He should activate normally.
NEW - Frost spiders may not be selectable using the mouse. Tab targeting them will work.
Quests
NEW - Misery's Peak
After quest completion your bind point will change to Korthos Village. If you'd rather be bound elsewhere, make sure to bind in another location after finishing this quest.
NEW - Stealer of Souls
Favor for this quest is currently not showing in the Adventure Compendium
NEW - Slavers of the Shrieking Mines
Sonic traps manned by miners will not stop activating when the miner is killed, paralized, or otherwise incapacitated.
NEW - Heyton's Rest
Upon destruction of the final alter, the DM text says "The unnatural wailing stops..." however, the wailing sound continues on and only ceases when you leave the dungeon.
NEW - Sacrifices
Favor is not being recorded correctly for this quest
Foundation of Discord
One of the traps cannot be disabled by its control box.
The Black Abbot Raid
Remember, that just like wearing loose articles on a roller coaster can be dangerous, it may also be unsafe to do so during a recall out of raids. When attempting to guide your team mate across the chasm in the 2nd puzzle room of the Abbot raid, please be sure to remove your goggles before recalling after failure or success, as recalling with the goggles equipped could cause your party to become stuck during the loading screen. Should you become effected by this, please log in with a different character, and contact in-game support using the "?" button for assistance.
Shopping
When selling to pawnbrokers, remember that unlike Tavern-keepers and general vendors, other players can purchase an item you've sold to the NPC. Additionally, it is intended that items sold to pawnbrokers will not appear in your buyback list. Instead the item will appear for purchase in the sell tab of the pawnbroker's list.
Other
G15 keyboard LCD displays currently show Spellpoint totals for non-casters. The hitpoint totals displayed as a result of changes to a player’s constitution bonus are sometimes displaying inaccurately.
Due to an issue with the engine upgrade, other player's characters may appear to be "choppy" in movement at times. This does not effect your own character, only other characters you are viewing.
Improvements have been made to the game's launcher, in order to become more compatible to Windows Vista. However, some users may encounter errors if they have already adjusted Vista permissions to get the game to work. Click Here for information on how to fix this error.
When breaking a crate or barrel, you or your friend(s) may hear the sarcophagus sound effect.
NEW - The fiery plane of Fernia is in strong alignment, and Lava is much hotter than it should be in some places.
NEW - After you die, if a player picks up your soul stone, you will not receive a message saying they have done so
NEW - Computers operating with the following Video Cards may have performance or other difficulties:
Nvidia 7800 GTX
Floaty names may appear distorted. Turning off video post effects will correct the issue.
Intel 965 onboard video
Game may crash on higher level graphics settings.
