View Full Version : One way to help the economy and help with the complaints.

I have here an idea of somewhat radical proportions.
This idea will help with complaints about shroud ingrediants (large ones to be precise) dropping at a disproportionate rate and an unrealistic bottleneck that you guys probably didnt intend being created.
Right now plat in the high end game is becoming more and more just used for buying expendables to continue the fight. When you purchase these resources you expect to get a return on your investment greater then what you put in, and that is exactly what happens most of the time. There needs to be something purchasable in game that will draw money out of the economy thats valuable enough that players will spend their plat on it and large enough to put a dent in the economy.
Right now an average double tier 3 crafted item takes at least 4 large scales (the most rare item). Said scales often drop 1 out of 15 chests that are able to drop them. Lets look at the amount of time needed for one crafted item. Needing 4 scales means you need 60 chests about. At 2 completions a week and 2 chests per completion thats 15 weeks. Hmm, nearly 4 months for a casual player to get 1 item and I'm betting that same person wants at least 2 or 3 items for that character.
Here is a solution that will assist in both those areas. Put a vendor in shroud part 5 behind the eldritch device that can only be accessed after you have completed the shroud to sell large ingrediants. Sell them at a price of 50,000 plat each, but do not sell shards. This value is high enough that to "buy" all your ingrediants for a double tier 3 shroud item you would need to invest 1.2 million plat and still find the shards to be able to make it.
Yes, initially you will have an influx of shroud items and weapons as people right now have the plat to spend on buying ingrediants. But not everyone or really many people I know could afford even one full set of ingrediants. You will syphon an extraordinary amount of plat out of the economy to let it right itself back into value. Right now if you watch the marketplace forums a large percentage of them use ingrediants as the currency. Make the coin worth something again.
The hidden advantage to all this is people will go out to your new quests and old quests alike to try and gain MORE coin. Doing this increases longevity into the game as people will not get burnt out JUST trying to do the big 4 (shroud, VOD, hound and reaver). The reason this works for your game where it might not work for others is in the fact that people keep creating new chars for DDO to level up, and those new chars will need equipment as well.

Issue I have is that it will encourage people to be more coin greedy. AH prices will inflate even more and plat farmer sites will find an increase in trade.
The reason raid stuff is bound and not buyable is so that it has to be farmed or dropped.
The time sink and unavailabilty of items is more important than the economy or making things easier for casual or unlucky players, especially from the company standpoint.
I know you suggest a very high price, but plat buying sorts that instantly and there are many people that have more money than they can physically keep on one character.
So, have to disagree. Purchasing Shroud stuff is not a good idea IMO, I'd much rather see a vendor who'll trade them for you much like the relic vendor in Gianthold.

in responce to mistinarperadnacles. Your points are well made and we have thought of these already.
First of all AH prices will inflate, for a very short time. If coin has value people will not spend it so freely as they did before, and prices of items on AH will either drop or those same items wont be sold.
Second, anything that has value in an MMO becomes a sold commodity for plat farmers (have you not getting the spams for ingrediants and weapons from them yet).
Third, ingrediants are not bound and are freely tradable at this time (shards are not, and therefore should not be vendor buyable).
Fourth, from a company standpoint, its important to have your customers WANTING to continue thier subscribtion, and the second it sinks in that its really the same old same old every 3-4 days and you get burnt out fast and start looking for greener pastures.
Fifth, you go back to plat buying, you cant really stop your games developement just to keep plat buying from happen. Its the same as cutting off your head cause you dont like shaving. Also, with with the people that have too much money then they know what to do with, thats what this solution is for. Its to get their money out of the system (along with everyone elses) so the amount of money going out of the game is less then the amount of money coming in. Vendors create plat, vendors can be used to take it away.
I do thank you for your constructive critizism though.

large scales is a real problem there.
more than 10 shroud run, I got no scales, or even sometimes, I am in short of small scales too.
Scales problem need to fix. I personally agree that to put a vendor in shroud, so we can trade spared ing. for scales or whatever we need at that moment.
Or, dev can introduce some new recipes which can be used in the stone of change(the market bank and the 12), to create ing. you need. Code works is not very difficult to achieve. Only one thing is that if turbine want this game to be a grind game or a fun game. I just don't understand, why turbine nowadays make items drop rate so low and the most useful raid item is so rare that you may not see it untill 20 40 60 80th..... Look, if items can be easily obtain, more people will roll more toons to have fun from large part of this game. but if so rare, this will not courage people to roll more toons to enjoy this game. Because everyone here want their characters become somehow good, some items are essential to make your character good. And how about reroll, we put so much times to make my character become uber, so many raid items and binded item on her. Without full respect system and low drop rate, is this fair if someday the game change drameticly, and I have to reroll?

there isnt a disproportionate rate of drop. each large drops with the same rate. the only difference is you need an average of FIVE large scales for the attractive gear (4 if you count all recipies)

if you all you get from questing is put into expendables, you are playing it the WRONG way. the is the sole complaint of most playing clerics. in fact, my clerics are my most profitable toons and i dun take donations either

yes this is assuming a casual player that plays only a couple of hours a week. truth is most people play at least 1 hr a day and that is enough for 1 shroud with a decent group. i can run 20 shrouds a week and in a fortnight, make a double shard. if a player will want more items, then he/she is most likely not a casual player. most casual players are contented with 1
Here is a solution that will assist in both those areas. seriously, if you have 1.2M pp, you ARE NOT a casual player. much as plat is easy to get, most casual players i know do not have even 500k pp. heck, some of my guildies that play 2-3 hrs a day dun even have that much
Yes, initially you will have an influx of shroud items and weapons as people right now have the plat to spend on buying ingrediants. who are you siphoning the plat from? its the people that do not have time to play. the rich will always have the ingredients they want. just to give you an example, i currently have 100+ larges in my pouch, 10 each of stones and scales

wrong again, you are making the casual grind other quests for plat. and for your info, shroud, hox and reaver are the easiest to grind plat. guess what, nothing changed cept you just made it more difficult for casual gamers

ps: the better way will be for a shroud ingredient exchange like the GH relic exchange. this will help to convert the excess bones and shrapnels into the more needed stuff

value of coin is relative, prices in AH will not drop just becoz you implemented this. it is really easy to grind plat. in a couple of hours, i can garner 100+ kpp in loot
Second, anything that has value in an MMO becomes a sold commodity for plat farmers (have you not getting the spams for ingrediants and weapons from them yet).
wrong again, there are some items that will not become a commodity. i just looked into a few plat sites and large scales are not listed. there are several reasons. a) they are unable to run some quests b) demand is not there (scales are needed but many will not pay real money for it) c) there are more time efficient stuff to farm (most farmers run in groups of 6, it is not efficient to run shroud with 6)
Third, ingrediants are not bound and are freely tradable at this time (shards are not, and therefore should not be vendor buyable).
Fourth, from a company standpoint, its important to have your customers WANTING to continue thier subscribtion, and the second it sinks in that its really the same old same old every 3-4 days and you get burnt out fast and start looking for greener pastures.
wrong, no one forces them to grind. people get bored not becoz they are aiming for a shroud item. people get bored becoz they have no new content

again as my prev post, you are not siphoning plat out. people will just run and grind it. it IS NOT mandatory to have a shroud item

Nothing personal but gear does not make or break any character. A character is only as "uber" as the person playing it. Gear, tomes or plat is an added bonus to your playing but should never define a character. Making good loot drop more is not needed, there is far too much of it that "epic weapon" has become meaningless. That is how I feel at least.
