Do you think the -2 to attacks, saves, skills and damage rolls from Crushing Despair spell ,which can affect many monsters in one casting, is better than casting a Stoneskin on 3 fighter types running into melee? I am looking for the damage mitigation and less healing factors.

Depends on the situation.

For a normal quest run the stoneskin is usually much more effective. For a raid boss, you'll want both if possible.
