Welcome to the game Enziet!
Although DDO is based on the D&D 3.5 Edition rules you don't really need to know that much about them to get started. I myself still play 2.0 (aka Advanced D&D) every week but it wasn't too hard to get into things.
There are tons of helpful links and resources as well as build discussions in the various on the forums. Check some of them out and see if any of the descriptions fit your style of gaming.
The best advice I can give you based on my own experiences and years of playing is just roll up some characters, meet people, and have some fun. If you have some specific questions about game play that you can't find in the forums just make another post here in the Newbie Q&A and someone helpful should get back to you pretty quick.

Yes, dammit, what server? We must know now! :)
(Say Khyber! Say Khyber!)
Welcome to the game, Enz! If I may, a small piece of advice: build your first character, whatever race/class you want, and work your way to 400 "favor" (by doing lots of quests, preferably on hard or elite - 'P' is the default key to display the patron window). Then, roll your preferred class as a drow, but don't make con a dump stat.
Then, don't roll any other race until you reach 1750 favor on that drow.
It may seem odd, but trust me, you'll be happy six months from now if you do this.

3.5 is vastly different from first edition (and DDO is dfferent from 3.5 though I have been so long that I am having problems remembering).
You can now multiclass and play a single character that has up to 3 classes.
Anyone can dual wield. If they spend a "feat" on it, then instead of suffering a high hitroll penalty (-4 to primary -8 to off hand wpn i think) they will suffer from a low hitroll penalty (-2 to primary hand -4 to off hand--if weapons are not light weapons, then the penalty can be -4/-4)
Your damage with 2handed weapons adds strength modifier [(strength stat-10)/2]x1.5. One handed weapons add your strength modifier to damage.
Rogue skills are not arbitrarily assigned by level. Every class can spend points to put "ranks" into skills. A rank = a +1 to the dice roll to succeed at a skill check.
Kobolds outside the first tavern are more than half a hitdice.
Any race can be any class--yes, there are dwarven spellcasters.
You do not have to pick a god to get clerical spells (DDO not D&D)
In DDO death is not the end, you can be taken to a shrine and raised.
In DDO, if you can cast the spell at any level, you can use a wand that produces the same effect.
Welcome to the game
Oh, and like straklen said, con is not a dump stat. Having a 6-10 con=almost certain death.

The first thing you need to understand is the d20 system. D&D is now based on this system and it's very different from 1e D&D (which I played as well!).
The d20 system is how combat, skill use, and saves work and they all work the same way. d20 is how D&D checks for success in anything your character tries to do. The general way it works is:
Everything you may want to try to do has a Difficulty Check (DC). that is a number from 1 to infiniti. You roll a 20-sided die. You add your applicable bonuses to that roll. If the total exceeds the DC, you successfully complete what you're trying to do. Here's a simple example:
A rogue is trying to unlock a chest. The chest lock has a DC of 25. The rogue has an Open Lock skill of 8. He is using +3 lockpicks and is wearing gloves which give him a +4 bonus to open locks. The rogue rolls the die and rolls a 12. His Open Locks attempt is 12+8+3+4 = 27. 27 > 25 so the lock opens.
Combat works the same way except the DC to hit is replaced with your opponents Armor Class (AC). So say that a fighter is trying to hit a troll with an AC of 30. The fighter has an Attack Bonus (Based on level, strength, magic weapons, etc.) of +11. He attacks the troll and rolls a 7. His attack is 7 + 11 = 18 vs. an AC of 30 so he misses.
Saving throws, spell resistance, and many other things work this way. Sometimes it's pretty complicated to calculate all the bonuses but that's why a computer version of D&D is so nice...it does all that work for you.

^^ Okay thats a new one lol i've seen it before in other MMO's but never expected it in D&D style
Thankyou for all the helpful info, I understand alot better now what all these numbers work on my weapons / armor and the different affects. Geez this game has changed alot since last I played. Going to take a look online see if I can find some 3.0 books get a general reference.
Yes I am playing on Khyber, but i'm thinking of re rolling a rouge :-) Pally doesn't seem like what I want now.
