Totally new at crafting here. I'm looking to craft the best damaging longbow. Any ideas or comments appreciated.

Whichever greensteel weapon helps you farm the church and the cult the fastest for a silver bow. :p


Seriously though, i heard lightning strike was decent as was min II. Also hear that vacuum II is an interesting one to pick as you can farm elemental gems with it from afar.

General opinion is making a Lighning II bow is best (meaning double shard at the third tier to get the Lighning Strike special attack). If you're not willing to devote the 24 large ingredients needed to make that bow, making a triple positive (holy, good burst, good blast) is next in terms of overall DPS.

EDIT: I think the overall DPS for lightning II comes out ahead when you factor in the lightning strike effect. When I ran the numbers on an elven ranger (with enhancements for ranged damage) with Improved Crit: Range comparing Lightning II and 3x Positive, the 3x Positive actually does more damage by a few points LEAVING OUT the lightning strike effect. I left it out of my calculations because it's a pretty low proc rate, especially considering how infrequently rangers use bows in this game. Hell, my ranger uses her bows far more often than the majority of rangers on Khyber and that's still only when manyshot has recycled.

EDIT: At this time, I wouldn't make a Mineral II bow. Stuff that has DR that needs to be bypassed can be done with Holy/Pure Good + either Cold Iron or Silver arrows bought from House D with enough favor. The Holy or Pure Good from the Lightning II or 3x Positive will fulfill that requirement with the proper arrows. Mineral II for melee weapons, however, is a very strong choice.

There are three approaches generally used:

Lightning II - 1st tier positve, 2nd tier air, 3rd tier - positive and air
This gives you holy, shocking burst, shocking blast and a 600 point lighting strike that hits ~2%. This is very good against monsters damaged by electricity and the lightining effect is visually striking (think bolt from the heavens). No transmuting, so DR is a issue. Lightning bolt can also be a pain if it kills something you want alive (Think shroud part II). Coolest looking weapn and excellent DPS plus you can bypass Harry's DR with silver arrows.

Triple positive - 1st tier positve, 2nd tier positve, 3rd tier - positive
This gives you holy, holy burst, holy blast, plus a generally useless greater disruption and a true res clicky. This is the best against mobs that take holy damage, but is useless against mobs that do not. Also has the advantage of only needing one tier III upgrade (Think 1 shard and 12 larges vs 2 shards and 24 larges) Very few people brag about this, because holy burst is already in the game. However, for crafting cost vs. value, this is very good. Again,you can bypass Harry's DR with silver arrows.

Mineral II - 1st tier earth, 2nd tier positive, 3rd tier - positive and earth
This gives you acid, good burst, acid blast, keen, slicing, transmuting. This is very good against monsters damaged by acid and superb against bypassable DR (the higher the better Min II is). Only other advantage is cheap arrows because of transmuting.

Thanks all, that gives me alot to think about. I should make a Rapier instead!
