Anybody know the proc rate on this?
1-2% seems too low, if it's around 5%, then I think I finally figured out what I'm building.
Edit:
Also, are Red names immune to this? I'm thinking yes.

I made one of these recently; haven't played with it enough yet to zone in on the exact proc rate, but so far I'd put it at about 3%. Haven't seen it go off on red names, so I would imagine it doesn't work on them. Oh also, when something gets encased in ice, all attacks are crits.

Huh? Did they change this recently?

The one you are talking about was the frost/shock dual shard one. It was always my understanding the immobilization effect didn't allow for auto crits. Also, the spell effect is polar ray, so not much help there.
The straight frost one is kind of fun to play around with as an off hander. It has a panacea spell effect, which is useful when soloing. The 3d tier effect is only 12 larges, and it is a DOT effect of about 40 points of damage per sec for about 4 seconds. I personally think the graphics on the special effects makes it look like I'm spitting on the mobs.

Next time it happens I'll get a screenie of the combat log. I highly doubt that when I attack an encased mob, I happen to roll only 17-20s (weapon is a khopesh) - I'm not nearly that lucky with my dice rolls. I'll let you know one way or another.

All the info I've read noted the auto-crit effect, most of why I was thinking about it.
If I build one, it would be a repeater, and with Imp Precise Shot, I can hit multiple mobs and the special effect would proc more, and auto-crit is about as good as it can get, especially with no save.
Edit:
Now the question is which order for the Frost/Shock effects, and do I go Shock Blast or Exceptional Dex +2?
