Ya know... I read these on tag lines all the time. Don't get me wrong.... as I'm NOT Flaming on anyone here. But doesn't it just seem reasonable that EVERYONE is proud of their Guild? Or that if they're the Leader or and Officer of a Guild...that they're "Proud" of it?
It's kind of like all the Polliticians with the TV advertisments...
"I'm "______", And I approve this Ad."
Well DUH.... Your IN it! You'd BETTER approve it.
Anyway... too much time on my hands right now.

Proud Offic..... Oops... almost did it myself... :D

Not everyone is proud to be in XXX, not everyone gives a **** about their guild.
Are you in a guild? Does your guild have its own website? Does your guild promote events for guildies?
If you are in a guild then you'd realise that some folk log on, PuG and log off. Some folk never visit yer
guilds website, some folk never try and get all the guildies together.
Those that are proud of their guilds tend to tell people about it. They bump their guild recruitment thread
here, they link to their guilds website in their sigs, they send unguilded PuGger to their website, they update
the compendium...in short, they ADVERTISE their guild.
Yes, Im pretty sensitive about this subject...thats how proud I am of my guild.
My guild being the Order of the Silver Dragons (http://silverdragons-lair.net) by the way.

Not every guild goes out of their way to advertise like your talking about. The people in my guild pug often and when they find that rare gem that fits into our guild we ask them if they would like to join our guild and explain to them what we are all about.

First of all, not everyone is proud to be in their guild.
Secondly, it's a figure of speech. There are much sillier figure of speech to knock than that one.
It's kind of like all the Polliticians with the TV advertisments...
"I'm "______", And I approve this Ad."

It's not because you're in that commercial that you approve it. Think of the recent commercial from McCain where you see Paris Hilton and Britney Spears besides Obama with a mention about having a celebrity as president.

I am proud of my guild, we recruit rarely at best. We dont have a web site, because... we'd rather be playing when we can, than maintaining something about playing. We communicate in game just fine and if we need to get together, MotD is there.
We dont invite people to join us. We'll run with them a few times and if they ask AND we like them and their playstyle, we'll let em in. Needless to say, I have about 10-12 people who are active members. Prolly about 80-90 characters on the guild roster (all alts and a few players who've moved to greener pastures).
If an officer or leader is proud of their guild and wants to shout it from the mountain, let em. How can it possibly hurt anyone else?

Well, of course we're proud of our guilds. I mean really, how did you feel about your guild when you did your first successful all guild dragon raid, or titan, reaver, abbot, or demon queen. Now, for the websites, we have a couple of them that I set up. Not used a whole lot though. We tend to approach informing the guildies through word of mouth and the MOTD on the guild screen. Has worked out great for us. And given that we are approaching 100 active members, with a solid 20-25 per night, apparently others like our approach as well...

Well with my former guild I was a proud member because I liked the way I was treated by the group and it was tight knit. Even though it didnt work out in the long run I cant say I had anything bad parting ways with them.
For my new guild they actually trust me to be an officer (mwuahhahah rubs hands together and grins) hehe that asside its another great group of guys and girls who I enjoy spending my downtime with. Its all about how happy I am playing with my group and how cool it is that they value my input as a player enough to have me run as an officer. Im sure others have their reasons but those are mine. ^_^
Though I still kinda think they are crazy for giving me the power boost, soon I will control and color coordinate all their gear! (more maniacal laughter)

Yes, I'm proud of my guilds! Well, because of the names. NPC, Tiny but Angry and Where's My Britches on Ghallanda.
One of the great things about DDO is that I can create a guild all by myself since all my RL friends stopped playing.
:D

You're obviously not from the Midwest (IN/IL) ... where EVERY Commercial from EVERY politician the last two years has said that...
It got to the point where I was half expecting it at the end of a football game ...when they would interview a player.
"I'm Devon Hestor... and I approve this Play" :D

This statement by politicians at the end is actually due to a change in election law. A change prompted by the so-called "Swift Boat" ads in 2004. The law requires campaigns to disclose where the ads originate from, although of course some groups have found a way to get around things. Basically, the ads from the "official" campaigns are required to disclose that the ads are from their campaign. Some campaign consultant decided the easiest way to meet the law was to have the "and I approve this message" thing added to it.
Sorry to get off topic, just FYI.

I knew there was some legal reason to it, just didn't know the exact reason. (Being Canadian, you know...)

Actually, this dates back to the "Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002" (known more commonly as McCain-Feingold). The 2004 election was simply the first national election that followed the act so it was the first time we saw the rules in play.
And as Jerry stated earlier, sorry for the off-topic comments of a political junkie. :p
