Real crazy idea here. Mostly just thinking out loud, so bear with me...

Wit be cool if you could play DDO using PEN and PAPER? Or penicil and paper. You'd have to like... maybe write everything down about your character on one sheet. I know that sounds like a lot of writing... and maybe get some wood and whittle a little thing like that "d20 die" that shows up on your screen, but make it- THREE-DIMENSIONAL!! Not sure how you'd get it to randomize... maybe shake it in your hand then put it on the table. You'd have to decide if the top or bottom of the thing counts as your "roll". The hard part would be that paper has a real crappy video card. You'd almost have to imagine what is happening on it. Hmmmm. Then there's the easy party- one of the players could take turns being the voice-man.. you know, the "DM". He'd just have to stand up every once in a while and yell out, "You must gather your party at the exit and FREE ARLOS!".

Nah, sorry. Dumb idea. Would never work.

There used to an online comic about EQ and your comment was the reverse of his cartoon.

Apparently, a few years ago, EQ came out with a PnP version of their game. In the comic, some guys were playing it at EQ's headquarters when one of the designers came by and watched. He eventually said something like "you know, I could write a little program that would roll that die for you and store all that data in a database so you wouldn't have to write it down...I could also render your character in 3D so you could move him around the world on the computer..."
