View Full Version : Where are the live events

Mod 6.1 brought us the live event engine from AC and LOTRO, it was used to great effect ( and varying success) during the anniversary event, since then has basically not been used (I don't count the race to the Subteranne as a live event as there was no event just running old quests to get tokens).

This is the perfect time to use it as content has started to get stale, and even small scripted encounters in the harbor and market place can ease the monotony, and while Turbine may see the value of the live event engine, in huge events, I see it having a huge effect when running small and constantly changing events like skirmishes and small invasions

things like

1. Kobolds running amok in the harbor
2. Drow breaking through the gate at the searing heights
3. Giants attacking house K

etc etc

Having them run randomly on a timer throughout the week switching to a new set every month, have them drop tokens like in the subteranne, and have an NPC to redeem for cash and prizes.

A_D discussed wasted dev time in his post, but to me the time spent on implementing the engine is much more of a waste if it sits idle for 51 weeks ofthe year.

I understand that you didn't consider the Subterrane contest to be an event, but just for clarification - it did use the event tech engine. In fact, from what I understand, the unlocking thing wouldn't have been possible without the use of the engine.

Oh, and I'd love to see another big event! I loved the 6.1 thing.

Agreed. But the small things were fun too...

After all - all that open air above the city, we really should always feel the need to keep one eye open when out in the public areas.

My favorite was when skeletons came pouring out of the house J spire....oh yeah that was a bug. Man it was a fun one though.

Argonnessen is holding a Gary Gygax Day and we're running Deleras and other Gygax-endorsed content this weekend, 26-27 July 2008.

We *make* live events happen.

/signed on more live events. These things tend to make the story of stormreach move forward, IMO.

While it did use the engine, there could have been so much more to it than that, liked timed devil spawns as we hit certain marks, something to make it interactive and not a passive use of something obviously that could be incredibly powerful if used often, and used effectively.

The introduction of the night cycle could have brought skulking brigands in the night trying to waylay adventurers, attempted bank heists in the lordsmarch bank, monster spawn nights in the taverns, just little things to keep people on their toes and really bring Stormreach to life, great big events are nice but they are fleeting.

Of course!

I just think if more people like Merlask and other notables were running server-wide events that maybe the devs would see we want them to do the same thing and emulate their player populace's wish to produce events.

Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease more live events! PaLeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease!

The invasion was some of the most fun I have ever had in an MMO. Reminded me back in the days of EQ1 GM events. Lets get them going! You have the tech, please use it!

By my count live events finished DFL when players were asked:

Question 2, Rank the following in order of importance:

* Introduction of new systems (Bounty bags)
* Expanded existing systems (crafting, PvP, Favor, etc.)
* New Quests (Subterranean, Three Barrel Quests, etc.)
* Revamped regions (Three Barrel Cove, Cerulean Hills)
* Events (Tent event, Race to the Subterranean, etc.)

Not a terribly large number of responses, but New Quests was clearly most important. I hope they get the message and deliver.

I would certainly agree that 3 months with no updates is to long, and they need to do something to keep things from getting stale.

I think they need to keep it simple, and have scheduled scripts that replay and get updated regularly interspersed with bigger live events, that cater to different groups. There are many of us who still long for the ranger obstacle course DDO japan got, and no the blocks u pto the tower during the live event did not satisfy that longing it was a poor attempt at trying to mash several kind of live events together. Keep them seperate, that way one group does not feel they need to cow tow to another when doing an event.

The devs should be concentrating on the new content, but there is no reason that we cannot have small scripted interval based stuff that switches out, if you keep it simple and do lots of small things, it will stretch out the content

Yeah, those kinds of events would be very good. The Obstacle Course tied in with a Festival. Maybe new dances to learn -- I've seen Turbine implement these abilities in LOTRO & it's a shame it hasn't made it to DDO yet.

Festivals, Fairs, & Events would be a step-up in the right direction.

A continuing storyline that creates automatic "npc" chance encounters where you have a chance to run away or agro would be great (thus not getting a random player killed by generating auto-npc spawns). Have the spawns tied to the current story plus random chance encounters - muggings, pick-pockets, blackmailing hooligans and bully thugs. A scary monster in a dark corner of an ally terrorizing an old woman, only to find out she's an Agent and the monster is working for the Shavareth. Things like this would add a lot of depth to our city.

I'd like to see more live events. I think it'd add more realism, and IMO, it'd be lots of fun. Alright, so I got ambushed a lot by random Devil encounters in the Marketplace a while back. But I didn't really mind, and it was cool that everyone who happened to be in the vicinity began fighting them together.

it was the one time where the guards warning was actually true. He warns you it is a dangerous place, well it should be dangerous

it would be neat if random npcs spawned and tried to jump you if your faction in house d or whatever was too high, if you killed them you could loot like a ham or something small

you know at this point something simple would be wonders, imagine all the people running their lowbies out to the houses getting all their twink items gettin ambushed

Hmmmm... that reminded me that I haven't seen the dragon soaring over the Marketplace in quite a while...

Indeed. Like this small scale event (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-0fn5xZIkA) that recently took place.
