View Full Version : Centered AC vs Not Centered

I did a lil experiment last night:

Went from handwraps to lt crossbow - became uncentered - retain Centered bonus to AC.

Went from lt crossbow to short bow (I am 1 lvl rogue, so proficient) - remained uncentered - retained Centered bonus to AC.

Went from short bow to long bow (not proficient at all) - Uncentered but retained Centered AC.

I was looking at my AC from the character sheet page and from my equipment page. I also kept an eye out for any Palidins strolling around with any AC buffing auras.

Can anyone verify that this is a bug for them, or if if this is a known issue?

I am gonna repost this in the other place as well.

Thank you!

Well, from a non-monk stand point...

I have noticed if you open your character sheet, or inventory and have a certain AC, and then switch something that would adjust it... if you HOVER over the AC area, the new ac is calculated, but it SHOWS the old one. Have you made sure this is not occurring? Its not an always thing, but it does happen. Like the screen doesnt update until you close and re-open.

That is correct. Monks retain their "Centered" AC bonus even when uncentered, but not when using shields or armor. The correct fix for Turbine to make is to rename the Centered AC bonus to something else.

If that is correct AND intended, doesn't that pretty much make monk THE optimal class for splashing with tempest ranger for insane TWF AND monster AC from the WIS bonus to AC?

Yes. It's been done quite a bit already if you search in the forums.

It is usually just Monk 2 levels for +1 Wisdom, +3 Saves, 2 feats.

I am not sure if Fists of Light (not sure why it's called Fists of Light since you can use it with weapons) works with non - monk weps, but if it does, Monk 3 may be worth it.

You cant use the air or water special attack with non-monk weapons, so I would assume that fist of light is also disabled. Not to mention the huge Ki penalty leading to little or no ki to use the specials anyway. I am not even sure you can generate ki while uncentered, but cannot confirm this for sure at the moment.

If you are willing to use only kamas, fist of light may be worth it for the mass heals, or at least it would if it did not turn off combat expertise (which is what many tell me happens). The heals would only be for 2d4 though (3d4 with sup devotion 1). Good for low hp characters, irrelevant to anyone else as you can only hit it every 25 seconds or so due to fist of light cooldown (which I again assume is the same 6seconds as the tier1 water and air attack).

Healing Ki I currently turns of CE, but apparently the devs are fixing this: it's unintended.

I've noticed this to.....especially on a Mnk/Clr. It makes it difficult for me to be sure what her AC actually is when uncentered...and especially when wearing armor.
