:D

Well, I have diagnosed the reason for all the "Hate" in DDO.

That reason is:
Smoke-cured Ham!
We must fight to have tasty ham put back into stores across stormreach! All of this "smoke-cured ham" is sickening people an making the worst victims hate mongers! We must get this bilge called "smoke-cured ham" out of our taverns, feed it to the kobolds, do whatever you can, just GET IT OUT OF STORMREACH! BRING BACK TASTY HAM! PUT IT BACK INTO OUR MOST FAVORED TAVERNS(like the Wavecrest)!!!

So...TASTY HAM FOR EVERYONE!!! And enjoy this plushie!

This is what was previously the original post, I have changed it.
I find it funny, and also kinda sad that a lot of this is going on, and just wanted to make a post, for people to actually realize that it's going on.
Here's a few style-slurs, so to speak:
Zerger
power-gamer
loot-monkey
twinker
noob
n00b
nub
etc...you get the point...:(

People are even being called names like this on the forums all the time, here is one that was used just recently: "power-gaming, zerging, loot-monkey twinks"...wow...just because somebody play differently, and uses their higher level characters to give their lower level characters some money and items...its' a play style...and I think your getting mad becaue their lvl 5 is better than your lvl 5...

Here is my question, why do you care so much how other people play the game, if you don't like the group your in(you can usually tell from the first few min of questing), just leave and get a new one. Can't find a new one, solo a little. Don't wanna find a new one or solo? Go outside, get a tan, go for a walk/jog/run/sprint, lift some weights, burn off all the fat from the food you've been eating while yelling at noobs, zergers, twinkers and the such.

Why do you feel so obligated to post about it every single time? Just get used to the fact that people will play the game the way they want to, and you can't change that calling them names...

Now, I realize that this probably won't get through to many people at all, but I hope it gets through to one, if it does that, I've been successful, hooray.
And yes, I may have been a little bias, due to that my play style fits, in my own, strategical-zerging twinker category.

I find it intersting that you would berate people for calling other people names, and then bare your prejudice by then calling them names and labelling them all as "fat."

Also interesting is the part where you encourage the people you don't like to expose themselves to harmful amounts of ultraviolet radiation.

Very rarely IMX, does it have anything to do with being upset that someone else has better equipment or 32 point builds. People get upset when soloers join their group and ruin the experience for them. Because believe it or not there are people who haven't run every quest 10 times and want to actually do the quest not simply run through it. To a lot of people this game is not just about xp per minute and it makes them mad because to people who are all about xp and loot make the game less fun for them. It's easy to run one quest and realize it's not the group for you and drop nicely, it's quite another when someone joins your group and takes it over with their playstyle.

Why do people post? The same reason you did right here, to defend your chosen playstyle. There is nothing wrong with fast questing, no optionals, get in and get out type of DDO questing. But there is nothing wrong with the moderate paced enjoy taking the extra 10 minutes it takes to do the quest and actually do the quest. Unfortunately most of the moderate paced, or even slower paced players don't come with the "I'm uber leet" attitude and the self importance of thinking that they are kings of DDO. Not all zergers do, but most of the asses I've met in DDO fit into the "I'm uber" catagory.

The number of people mad about particular groups probably has not increased. People have complained about bad groups for as long as this game has been around. What has increased is the people who feel compelled to whine about bad groups on the forums. This may speak to a more tolerant moderating policy on these forums. Whenever it happens, consider the fact that the poster complaining about these things was part of a bad group and is the one who has chosen to post on the DDO forums about their experience. Their post is merely their own opinion about what happened during the bad run, and may or may not contain any truth. The only people that know who caused the bad group are the people in the party.

Whenever it happens, consider that the only thing we really know is that the original poster was one of 6 or 12 people that contributed to a bad group. It is as likely that the poster caused the bad party as any other member, and we haven't heard from the other members of the group. If a poster constantly makes these type of threads, consider that the one factor common to all the bad groups is the poster themselves.

In my opinion, PUGS have gotten better not worse. Bad groups happen, especially when people are playing their character in a manner different than most people do. The best thing to prevent this type of problem is to be upfront before the group starts. If a player wants to use his 6th level sorc is a tank, that is his choice. But please tell the group leader before the run, so the leader can make the decision on whether that type of character would really be helpful to the group. Also, remember that player memory is long - if a puggy was really bad in a mission, people will remember.

No, we don't know that. It's possible the poster was the only "good" (however you define "good") player in the group. Not likely, but possible.

Honestly, I don't care how you play... but stay where you belong, please!

If you're a zerger, well stay in your zerg group. If you like to take it slow... well take it slow. If a group advertise zerg and isn't as fast as hoped, don't complain. If it advertises slow, and isn't as slow as hoped... don't complain. Everyone has a different way to play, just walk it on. And obviously, if you want to take it slow, advertise it so zergers don't join.

You know, it's for that reason Permadeath guilds have a rule to only play in guild groups.

Same applies on the forums, which is usually more forgotten.

If you hate powergaming, then for freaking sake don't join a powergaming discussion. If you disagree with someone for how you play, leave it there. Maybe you don't like to do X, but at least acknowledge that a fairly big portion of the playerbase does. As soon as you do that, then you have no choice than to respect the fact that these people have the right to voice their concerns regarding their playstyle.

BAH!! Bring it on!! I don't care what your playstyle is, but if I'm the leader, you are listening to me!!!!

The hate and discontent has always been here, usually due to jealousy/envy/bullheadedness/refusal to compromise. Names are labels how people call different styles, howthey see them. It is all a matter of perceptive, really. The truth is it comes down to the player, and what they see is "right" and "proper." In this case, oppiestes clash.

Words are as powerful as you let them be. "Sticks and Stones," et al.

Bran, he's talking about joining LFM's that don't suit you. Not joining a group then finding out they are doing the exact oppisete of what they advertised. For example: If you join a group that says "zerg" in the LFMs and you don't do that, don't blame anyone but yourself. You caused your own suffering, not therest of the party. They warned you.

Hmm, explain to them the way your running the quest(I always do), and if they get inside the quest, and aren't doing it the way you like, well that sucks I'm sorry, don't group with them anymore. But really....boot people if they don't agree, use your power as group leader. not the leader of a group, it's your choice to leave or stay.

Basically what you are saying is if everyone doesn't play like you, drop group and then you insult them.

Listen to who? Someone was talking? I couldn't hear it over the screams of joy at pulling the aggro and begging for a heal..etc. :P

Of course, I agree here. Listen to the leader. I was in a run were the cleric (played by Cadaia) informed the party of her rules, was agreed to and one person ignored it. They got to sit in the bottom of the well as a stone/ghost while we went to finish off the giant in STK. AFTER the quest was over, I zoned back in and brought him to shrine to let him get his chest. Easy way to get the people who are ruining it/messing up strategy out of the way. The well thingy was that big pool of water area with the openable door.

Yes, it IS a game.

That's means (whether or not we are dealing with a board game or an MMO or Mario Kart)when with one than one person, you might have some respect for the person and how they play. Generalizing that everyone puts 200 dollars in the centre of the board when you pass go is wrong. Some don't some put 500, and so on. The same with DDO. You havethe choice of not playing the game withthe person again, but you can only know that if you play withthat person once. Then how do you know?

Saying that, how do you know that so and so is a jerk unless you play with them? Yes, we all make judgment calls on how people speak, but generally many of the people around here are nice guys and great players. Will I play with them a second time? If they a bonified zergers? NO. But I RESPECT them and probably like them, and I certainly not label them as a jerk. But we will not meet in the game again.

Respect is earned. If you don't know them, If you never played with them, how do you really know? There are very few people in the forums that I can read their posts and say "What a jerk!" If you don't givet them a chance te earn it, you have no reason to label them.

Back on subject. YES, this is a game, and YES, you can choose who you play with, but Monopoly is boring by yourself.

But if you, hypothetically speaking, annoy me in a bar, I can walk out and you can follow me and continue to annoy me, despite any request I make that you cease doing so.

In DDO, again, hypothetically speaking, if you annoy me, I can squelch you and you will never trouble me again, directly (you could still spread vile rumors about me).

Online, we are in total control over who we allow to communicate with us (assuming some whacko doesn't take it into RL). Ergo, the human interaction dynamic is rather different, even it is true that people are people no matter how small. Plus, more people feel empowered to be jerks with the anonymity offered by the 'net, to a degree they'd never be IRL.

You seem to be implying that I'm labeling people in-game based on the forums. How could I possibly do that? I have no idea who anyone is. I don't read people's sigs. Ew, booooring! I only put my characters in my sig so I don't get accused of talking big and then not being willing to put my money where my mouth is, so to speak.

It means I don't understand why some people get all jacked up about builds, how hyper-optimized their character is, how fast they capped their Monk, whom they pwned in the Lobster, etc., etc., etc. In game, you have people LFMing "no kids" because they assume kids are lame. Well, since it is just a game, why not give anyone at least one chance before they dismiss them? Is their (the LFMer's) time so precious that they can't spare 30 minutes to try out a new player? The game's not going anywhere. But no, that's 3o minutes of time lost in capping their 50th character.

Some people just take all of this way too seriously.

Build building is some people's fun. Not yours. Some people can't handle new and/or n00bish people. That's my fun. Some like to run through a quest as fast as they can. That's their fun. Your statements can be read that you are raining on someone's funtime, whatever that is. So they get upset and defend THEIR game. Because, to them, you are saying that the way they play it is NOT FUN. May not look like it to you, but it does to alot of us. Back off the sarcasm a little bit and being more honest answers we make people see that you aren't being a jerk, you are not insulting them, not saying my way or the highway, or ignoring them. Opinion is nice, but hard to swallow wrapped in sarcasm. IMHO

To take from BBCA: "Different views, on world"

Or for the Geeks: "IDIC: Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations- I respect our differances"

It applies in Games, and in life.

I can't rain on their fun time if I'm ignoring them. I don't like PvPers, for example, but I don't go into PvP-oriented threads and start trash-talking PvP. I don't send harassing tells to some doof with a mile-long PvP bio listing all his pwns. He probably thinks my RP builds as lame as I think his PvP builds are.

The mistake you make is that you assume because I take issue with certain things on the forums, I take it into the game and give people a hard time about this stuff in-game. For all I know, I've grouped with people I've gotten into arguments here with and enjoyed the in-game group.

Unfortunately most of the moderate paced, or even slower paced players don't come with the "I'm uber leet" attitude and the self importance of thinking that they are kings of DDO. Not all zergers do, but most of the asses I've met in DDO fit into the "I'm uber" catagory.

Your first paragraph is essentially why my husband and I have stopped playing for now.

Why drop a pug group running madstone and you've been in it for 4 and a half hours? Because you cant get guildmates to take you through it.

Very difficult to enjoy a quest when your guildmates are trying to see who can kill and run the fastest to get a quest over leaving you standing at the beginning wondering what the hell just happened.

Its also very hard on people that can't afford high quality video cards, computers, memory to be able to keep up with someone who does.

I have noticed that wwhen I am on a hasted character, or one with 30% striders, and am with other guild members, they leave me and my husband in the dust. I have no idea why we cannot keep up.

This is a huge prob lem in quests especially higher level ones like for preparing for shroud. We will be at the beginning trying to keep up while everyoen else is almost done with the quest.

One day I may find out what is causing that particular issue LOL.

Nope. This is still rea life. You are still responcible for your actions, and yes, you will have to deal with jerks.

This is true.

One of the largest problems I see is when you have people like hubby and I who are very thin skinned and very sensitive to other people in how they treat us etc. etc.

It doesn't take much for us to get offended.

Get over it? I am almost 50 years old and I haven't gotten over it yet LOL.

We don't expect to be treated with kid gloves, but we do expect to be treated with respect. You know one of those treat others as you would blah blahs LOL.

I tell you, some people just have no idea how their actions and words can affect other people. Now that leads into "what we have to watch what we say and do?"

Not really, but still presents a dilemma LOL.

Apparently some of y'all missed this post the first time round, so Im quoting it for those still discussing this issue.

I just hate every one the same and think you all should be my slaves.
If you were my slaves I would not let you play ddo and I would make you sing to me.

You can all start practicing for it now. Here is the lyrics to the song I want you all to sing to me.

Put on the skillet, slip on the lid,
Mama's gonna make a little short'nin' bread.
That ain't all she's gonna do,
Mama's gonna make a little coffee, too.

Mama's little baby loves short'nin', short'nin',
Mama's little baby loves short'nin' bread,
Mama's little baby loves short'nin', short'nin',
Mama's little baby loves short'nin' bread.

Three little children, lyin' in bed
Two were sick and the other 'most dead
Sent for the doctor and the doctor said,
"Give those children some short'nin' bread."

Mama's little baby loves short'nin', short'nin',
Mama's little baby loves short'nin' bread,
Mama's little baby loves short'nin', short'nin',
Mama's little baby loves short'nin' bread.

When those children, sick in bed,
Heard that talk about short'nin' bread,
Popped up well to dance and sing,
Skipped around and cut the pigeon wing.

Mama's little baby loves short'nin', short'nin',
Mama's little baby loves short'nin' bread,
Mama's little baby loves short'nin', short'nin',
Mama's little baby loves short'nin' bread.

Slip to the kitchen, slip up the led,
Filled my pockets full of short'nin' bread;
Stole the skillet, stole the led,
Stole the gal makin' short'nin' bread.

Mama's little baby loves short'nin', short'nin',
Mama's little baby loves short'nin' bread,
Mama's little baby loves short'nin', short'nin',
Mama's little baby loves short'nin' bread.

Caught me with the skillet, caught me with the led,
Caught me with the gal makin' short'nin' bread;
Paid six dollars for the skillet, six dollars for the led,
Spent six months in jail eatin' short'nin' bread.

Mama's little baby loves short'nin', short'nin',
Mama's little baby loves short'nin' bread,
Mama's little baby loves short'nin', short'nin',
Mama's little baby loves short'nin' bread.

Now fetch my shoes and bring me some bacon grease I'm going to go get some sun.

This is an interesting thread. I run many pugs and know a few Type A questers, but my characters can hold their own generally keep up (without the latest greatest computer, in fact it is about 5 years old, but I do have cable modem so I think that makes a big difference). My point however is this in a round about way but hang in there: running with a welcome back to DDO guy last night and he was telling how he had been playing world of something MMO for the last year and can't believe he stayed so long because everyone there was so rude, (we were running shroud and people were offering up shards of power and "giving" ingredients to those who needed them), if he was on and not running a quest his guildies would group up in public area's and make fun of others builds or equipment whatever. Possibly and this is complete speculation but maybe since DDO is getting some more outside exposure, which it needs to sustain itself, there are a couple of bad apples coming down the line. It is unfortunate that players like cupcake would be so turned off by others that her and her husband are currently taking a break from DDO but don't let the few bad apples spoil the bunch there are many nice players out there you know that you have been playing as long as I have I believe. Well anyway thats my theory and dont try to change my mind because my tinfoil hat is securely fastened.

Well, yeah. Even the immature are getting bored on WoW. Ran into a few myself. Time to head back to the lower levels and have a talk about etiquitte, again! :p;)

I PuG all time, and immature, bratty people get time outs, ie die and not get raised right away. Funny, some ofthem are not "new from WoW" players. SOme have been around for awhile. I weed them out as best as I can. However, there are some good people too. The TS run today was a fine example of a bunch of new people (and a couple of vets) can listen and the quest went very smoothly!

BTW, the guy from Solid Guild. Forgot his name. Did that TS run with Roselyn and he was a great help! Thanks!

Zerger

And yes, I may have been a little bias, due to that my play style fits, in my own, strategical-zerging twinker category.

p.s.: Don't you love how if u make a typo in the title, you can't fix it? What's up with that?

I dont see any names being called there, just playstyles.

Okay, in seriousness (no, the above was not just in case you are one of those few that take things literally even when smilcons are added showing it's not,) We need to all just let people play the way they want, and stop telling others how to play if it does not meet your definations of playstyle.

While you have the right to play your lead group any way seen fit, adding no [insert banned here] will only reflect a sense of bigotry to those excluded. Try adding the word PLEASE if it's a disruptive to you playstyle (such as, "No Speeding zerg playstyle, please.") That said, I don't care HOW bad it was in your ultimate wisdom, don't list banning races classes or certain yples of people playing in your description. At best, people will feel negative if they HAVE x thing and see that. At worst.....well, those fighting for "justice" often become far more the oppressor of the individual in game freedom in their "appropriate responses" than the allegeded bigoted target ever was. You can choose to NOT accept those you simply cannot play with privately without you warning us how we're wasting our time in some public display.

If there's any question to why this is wrong, substitute the race or class with a REAL EARTH race or class. Think your LFM would be up before an admin comes knocking on your account door?

You have the right not to like somebody or some acts or even the GENERAL response as a whole YOU HAVE EXPERIENCED in game.

But grouping all warforged are heal-sucking zerg barbarians or all children are whiny and unlistening, or mikeless players can't follow instructions in a group properly, is like saying a certain RL race havs both been proven to be muscularly superior in the legs and feet area and is made for sports, yet studies have also showed they do not perform in mental tests as well, so they must by research be slower in IQ than the average person's quotient.

This above reference was used in real life, citing so called impartial sources (forgetting on the latter the subject itself may be biased for a certain race/class to comprehend) to prove a racial "sterotype" point. Even with fact, the public rallied against such talk, as the same talk using QUITE obvious to us TODAY (not then) was mentioned in Eugenics and a certain group's rise to power in post WWI's Germany.

SO I'll never tell you what to think or feel, but I'll ASK you to keep it to yourself, and not block others...at least publically.

As for Cupcake and DrWho, my deepest regrets if you fell into a group that seems to only went to get quests over with in a zerg style leaving you behind due to that. While I cannot change those players or guild, know on Thelanis or Sarlona (where I have now set up a semi permanent loggin in status compared to other servers) you are always welcome with me (and on Thelanis) or any person of the Fellowship of the Golden Night. While I cannot speak for any allied guilds there directly, I'm sure the Order of the Sword and Rose, Cimson Nexxus, Umber Hulks, and MANY more people and groups also will welcome you as players and not sprinters.

Feel fee to PM me here and I simply play more Thelanis so it takes me longer for guld and new player info compared to Sarlona.

While I cannot speak for all, I can speak for me. You two are always welcome with me.

And Cuppie and hubby, if you can't play due to what you experinced, consider leaving what's making that. If such acts don't work, go to extremes and consider server moving or even leaving the game for a while period, as I had to.

But know an open and sympathetic ear is right here by PM if ever needed for any people treated in this fashion and looking for support.

Someone was on last nite on Thelanis! Or channeling the love before world shutdown!

Nah! I can zerg, I REALLY perfer not to. The slower it gets done, the more I can learn and if I learn it, then I can lead my own groups thru it. But most go through fast, so I have to repeat it far more many times than needed to learn it. It want to learn the Titan Pre raid, so does the hubby, but it's a race to the finish with that. Don't get me started on the raid itself!!

Many of these people are our friends, and I really like playing with them. I just don't learn anything. Took us forever to learn GH.
Also the grinding aspect of the Shroud is annoying to say the least. I have been lucky that when I do the raid the first time, I got what I wanted out of it. therefore, I don't need to raid anymore. VoD has nothing but a moneysink for my clerics, Hound, while I didn't get a named item, got a cool WIZ VI hat. Titan, nothing. Reaver, got thegauntlets right off, then I got the necklace. Then Cloudburst. Dragon, Ring of the Silver Concord. TS: while not raid loot, but I did get 3 sets of Gleaming and two sets of Shining FP.

I like loot, but driving for a certain peice is stupid. That's why the Shroud fustrations comes into play. Alot of time, doing the raid over and over for the items you need to craft. I don't even know if I have to reflag! We have put this off awhile and are not looking forward to doing it.

As for the Zerging, uber elitist, n00b, with muppet tendancies: If they are in my group, I can deal with them. If I am in their group...not for long!

As for biased...Biased is bad. I don't need a rogue for TS, but I don't take them off my list either. However, if I have more than one or two of a type, like monks, then I take them off. If I have room, all are welcome. All I need is a 20 INT.

And yes, I may have been a little bias, due to that my play style fits, in my own, strategical-zerging twinker category.

p.s.: Don't you love how if u make a typo in the title, you can't fix it? What's up with that?

It affects my game and I need to know who they are, so I don't get stuck in a quest with them.

To the Op ive only ran with him once but it was a lot of fun so I dont get why anyone would show him hate. As for forum goers when ya bored sometimes you get crazy. Ive seen people post completely off the wall things on these boards then run with them in game and they are entirely different people. IE the ones who say they have no patience but will make sure that their party is all together and do help those who are struggling. (dont worry fellas im not gonna name names dont want to ruin your tough guy rep) But seriously I dont take half of whats posted seriously any more. Its a different world these forums and anyone can say just about anything they want and be completely different face to face.

Yes, tasty ham did used to be in tavern across stormreach(as a food item regening 50 hp in 1 min). Then for some idiotic reason they replaced it with smoke-cured ham. A while later, tasty ham started dropping from the purple orbs, and so on.

There was always some kind of ham available as regular food in taverns. The barkeep at the Wavecrest used to give you just a ham. I forget what Aida used to give you (keep your double-entendres to yourselves).

Nope, it wasn't just ham, it was Tasty Ham, it was always tasty ham, until they replaced it with smoke-cured ham. At the beginning of the game, you could get tasty ham, and he would give you a tasty ham as a reward for doing his quest(sigmund).

The "marshmallows" are probably lice.
