Naming Bound Items

I'm sure this has been brought up before, but if we can't ever trade these items we make that are bound, Why can't we name them ourselves instead of dealing with the ridiculous names the shroud items have now? I'd rather have a ss named Sting for instance than a shortsword called +5 supreme tyrant commander ss of captain commando pants.

I'd even be willing to make it something you have to work to get, like with collectables in the stone of change. That way the item would need to be bound and attuned before you could change its name.

I know it's cheesy and worthless in terms of game play, but flavor is always fun.

Well, nothing is stopping you from calling your precious weaponry whatever you want to call them. A name is just an identifier... and, for example, in Real Life I have one "official" name, but that doesn't stop me from having enough other names that I actually lost count. My forum name, "MrCow", is actually one such name that I am called several times a day by people (including family, friends, old college instructors, etc.). The "official" name I have is there just so that I can be tracked for things like billing. ;)

Besides, if you can't trade the item I fail to see what naming the item will do other than try to make a note of what you like to call the item.

For instance, i should be able to name my radiance II rapier, Timbuk3. I made it, i should get to name it too.

I think it would be fun. It would help me in my quest to confuse people.

Yeah I have this item with such and such stats called "flip flam flu" and I would just wait for the questions on where it drops etc.

It would be almost as good as the /death completions command.

I like this idea, just a touch of flavour.

Having said that, I might name my greatsword "Compensating"

It's UI customization, really.

The practical benefit is that when you mouseover the item in your toolbars, you can see a name that reminds you what it does, rather than something generic.
