View Full Version : Black Widow Bracers Trouble

Okay, I've run WW 10 times now. I've mastered it: I can go start to finish - all four quests - in 20 minutes at level 4. I've become this pointlessly good because I wanted the Black Widow Bracers. However, after having run WW 10 times, they've never been offered. Am I doing something wrong or is this just incredibly bad luck? Does the drop have anything to do with the two possible named black widows both appearing? I've killed them both, but they've never both spawned. This has gone far beyond frustrating.

Update: 14 times now, and still nothing. Argh argh argh argh argh.

Nope nothing wrong, I'm having the same problem with Tangleroot and the Crimson Gemstone on my Sorc. It's a little more difficult than Waterworks to solo ¬.¬

12 runs and counting with no crimson gemstone. Just keep trying it can only hold out for so long!

Are you a monk? Try un-ticking the "end reward based on class" box. Hell, try un-ticking it whatever class you are. Might do the trick.

monks are apparently programed NEVER to get those bracers. No monk I have ever met on argo ever got them in their first 6 runs.

As a rule, semi-static end rewards are determined in an inverse relationship to the utility provided multiplied by the players desire. So, if the particular item is truly useful and desired you are likely never going to be offered that particular item.

I guess it's because im from kyhber that im lucky're then thouse on argo, I got it on my 6th run.

I ran it 3 times...normal, hard, elite. No bracers for me either. I will not go back in there. Mage Armor pots/clickies give the same +4 armor bonus, last 6 minutes, and are incredibly cheap. When you get House P buffs, you can get a 30 minute Mage Armor buff cast on you. Besides, then you are free to use your bracer slot for something else.

Hmmm, I didnt get the BW bracers. I got (un-named) Prot +4 bracers. min lvl 5 (i think). I don't have the class based endrewards checked.

Good luck.

Just bad luck, like the other post, got mine first run.

My Barbarian ran Deleras 9 times to get Carnifex, but is holding 2 Misery's Web trinkets.

First run of WW as a level 2 Monk, I got the bracers. Second run on hard, got the bracers offered. So I guess it's just bad luck.

Yeah I got boned on the bracers too. Four runs, norm to elite then elite again and no bracers. Fortunately I did pick up a nice Mage Armor clickie along the way, not quite as nice but good enough for when my house P buffs wear off. Have +6 & 7 bracers waiting for later levels though, so not such a big deal i guess.

I can confirm that they still drop.

My Ftr was offered them just the other day...........as if they would go well with my Mithral Full Plate.

Toggling this off does not increase your chance at the bracers. Quests with semi static loot like WW, CO6 and others don't draw upon the class to determine end rewards.

My first monk pulled it the first time, my 2nd monk, the 24th time... And to the op, after the 15th-16th run, you'll be able to do the whole WW chain in about 13-14 minutes, including the running time between part 2 and 3. Last time i did it, if we add the minutes i got out of each part, i did it in 9 minutes + about 1-2 minutes of running, shrining. I was really frustrated, but since my monk was all about AC, and i didnt want to buy 1 minute mage armor pots, i had to get them.....took me alot of runs tho.

HA! 9 times.

My barb ran that 28 times before he was capped, not sure how many times after, and has yet to get the axe.

He now has the SoS, a greensteel maul and a greensteel greataxe...but that axe is a personal mission now.

They last 5(or was it 6) minutes.:) Not a bad alternative really. At 1 min they would suck to use though.

My monk didnt get the bracers after 5 repeats. I couldn't take WW any more.. Was already 6th level by then!

I carry and use a couple dozen Mage Armor potions. The House P favor has been great for 30 minute Mage Armor buff.

If my monk ends up wearing Golden Greaves next level (9th) those will give DR 3/-. I could then change her Robe of Invulnerability to a Vulkoorim Dervish Robe: Armor +4, Lesser Fire Resistance.

Kargon got just as good at silly WW. Took kargon 9 runs through to get silly bracermers. Devious and insidimious cunnaming bonumuses FTW!

Kargon handed the spare stack of mage armor potimions off to next monk that join kargon party.

four runs for the monk or his first elite run (and last time doing WW then.)

You want to talk maddening waits?

I decided once that I wanted to get Muckbane without a trade or hand me down.

It took that character 65+ attempts to get it. God how I stayed away from Durk's a long time after that.

And my monk, pulls that club his THIRD run. Now It's just better if I unarm the slimes and it it takes time to kill, more Ki for me.

(I think the arcane slimesa are the most jealous of this :) )

And as for the BWB, I still have them. Believe it or not, +5 or higher bracers are quite rare and/or expensive. Mabye not as bad as Wis V or higher, but up there.

And my monk is somewhere in the middle between broke and millions of gold. Definately less than 6 figures after his last level availability purchases. At least his luck is average. He too got a Mage Armor item until those bracers.

It's a possible end reward for completing waterworks.

Thanks. So is it a reward by the guard (I forget his name) or the guy outside? The guy outside said that he would only reward once.

Also, are these bound to character or account, and to about what level monk are these usually found useful (I imagine high ac bonus robes or other beavers would be found at higher levels)?

This is a great idea as they may be flagged as "Arcane" loot. Didn't think about this. I've run 3x and nothing. Which is no big deal, but remember I had a problem on my previous monk. Awhile back I selected class based end reward for certain reasons.

Good Idea Falco!

Current drops are bound to account.
Old ones *should* change from bound to character to bound to account but I think it's slightly bugged. Checked lastnight on my Ranger who had a pair stowed in his vault, and they were showing bound to character.

/shrug.

But yes, I can confirm that as of DDO:EU, they are dropping now as bound to account.
And yes, it's pure luck. Took me 5 runs on Cannith on my Monk, but my Ranger on Khyber got 'em first run through.

What I should have also mentioned:

When I pulled them, the tooltip popup for Tember's end-rewards said "Bound to Character" when I was going to vendor them later I noticed they said "Bound to Account".

QuantumFX

All the Account bound rewards at the end of quest chains (including named items) are not affected by “Class based rewards”. You can tell by the fact that your monk can pull shields. You get them as an end reward from the Guard in the Waterworks and not from the Harbormaster. Also, turning off “Class based rewards” on a monk is a colossally bad idea. It's a great source for greater bane handwraps.

I picked these up on my 3rd run through with my lvl3 (then dinged lvl 4) monk last night, running on normal by myself. End reward from the guard inside by the first kobold clan.

Edit: Oh, and I had the 'class based rewards' box checked.

I have these on my wizard and am considering transferring them across to my monk, although I get by with the starter robe and the odd potion to keep mage armour up. It's an item that seems more like a convenience rather than a necessity.

It is confusing when looking at the Item List because while in the list it says "Binds on Acquire" once you take an item it says "Bound to Account".

It's good to know since, I now have +2 str gloves no min lvl and +2 dex boots no min lvl Bound to Account. Great twink gear.

Nice Necro.

If you have Veteran Characters unlocked the ones you get from picking rogue/monk starter gear are Bound to Account and you can transfer them

Also from the quest I see them more on my Pure Fighters and Paladin set to class rewards than I do as when my rogue / monk was doing it as class reward. Food for thought.

Just bad luck, as others have said. I just ran it with my FvS and my Sorc, both were offered the Black Widow Bracers. Sadly, both were less than useful to either of them.

My monk I started as a vet build, which gets them for free as a 'starter' item. But she pulled them as well when I ran WW.

What is the big deal with these anyways....Mage armor potions are extremely cheap and give the same exact benefit.

Sure. But why waste the spell points when I can have an item that gives me permanent mage armor (which is effectively what the BWBs do)?

Just to report back. The BWBs dropped on my thirteenth trip through the WW. I ran it on casual.

Exact same critter.

Vet starter stuff is mostly Korthos stuff (which binds to character), and a piece or two of <mostly> WW stuff which binds to account.

But until folks earn/buy Vet status, the hunt thru WW is still afoot. :)

DoctorBadWolf
04-06-2010, 06:47 PM
This might be a bit cruel to mention, but I got it on my first WW run on my monk...

Heh. Similar thing happened back when I play WoW. First run through VC I got this ring that my buddy had run VC 15 times for with no luck.

Until I got them, I just used an outfit of mage armor(used the clicky and then switched to my outfit with a real enchantment.)

Good to know about the vet status thing, since when I get around to 32 point remaking my monk I'll also get vet status, because Korthos makes me want to kill myself.

Also, necromancy is fun, and productive. :D

And I wasn't aware that an equivalent to the BWBs came with veteran status. That's good to know.

At the moment, I'm hunting the Ring of Feathers. Over 20 runs through STK, and they still haven't dropped. I've ransacked the chest with two characters now, and I'm on to my third.

Wish me luck.

I believe you can get BTC feather falling rings from the Sharn series of quests as well. Might break up the monotony of ransacking STK ;) Also, if you pop the chest and don't loot the seal, the quest will not complete and you just have to run part 3 again. Well... I haven't run STK in a while, but that's how it used to be. GL!!

Well the Veteran ones do come with the additional tag of 'Starter' that the quest reward ones do not have. Everything else is the exact same, including name.

Level 4-5 players, unless they have a high level to pull money from, will not be able to afford them. Armor 1 bracers, maybe. Armor 3? likely 5kpp on the AH. That's why the BWB are so popular, they drop something that is far better than what you'll get or can afford until several levels later.
