i may be missing something here but i was just thinking . a vorpal only hits on a 20 roll so what is the point of needing a fanesse vorpal . no matter what your attack mod is the only way for it to work is with a nautral ccrit who care if is a natureal crit with a fanessablle wep or a normal size wep. .....am i missing something here?

You also need to confirm the Crit for the Vorpal effect to go off

Less aggro from lower base dmg is nice as well, plink, plink, plink, still no aggro, plink, dead.

Its definatively more to do with confirming the crit. You NEVER want to roll a 20 with a vorp and fail the conformation roll.

Not to mention, if you have a twf with slashing and crit enhancements, a vorpal in each hand doubles or better your chances of hitting a 20(haven't really done the homework on how many attacks, etc...just know it works). My TWF ranger has a +86 to confirm crits, so when she hits 20's she usually crits, so with a vorpal battleaxe in main hand and vorpal kukri in the off hand, well...lots of dead things around :)

..actually finesse would be fine on a vorpal, smiter or disruptor, since they aren't DPS weapons, and a dex-based character might need them to hit reliably. I can see a role for them..

A vorpal that is finessable is desired by builds that took the Weapon Finesse feat (most rogues, some max DEX rangers), or builds who are TWF but did not take the OTWF feat and don't want their to-hit/crit confirmation to suffer. For the Weapon Finesse folks, their to-hit is based on their DEX, not their STR, so using a "normal size" weapon (say, longsword, battleaxe, etc) for a vorpal means their to-hit is much lower, which in turn means their chance to confirm the 20 is much lower. Hence, less vorpal-ing going on, to coin a phrase.
