So, they gave us a use for large horns...and all Ive noticed is they are used to create certain greensteel items instead of
an energy cell.
Is that all they are used for?
And second, have they removed them from the loot tables?
Ive ran the shroud a numebr of times since the change and havent pulled any.
They are "incredibly valuable" as per the devs. Yes, they take the place of the energy cell so you can make all the weapons you should have been able to make in the first place.
What do you do with the 20 other large horns you have after you've made an axe?
They're still in the loot tables, as I pulled two of the p.o.s. two days ago. I can't pull any large stones, but I sure can pull an item that has ZERO use to me. Vert fustrating, as I have been sitting on my paladin's Mineral II khopesh for about a month since I can't pull the stones I need for it.

Currently that its all they are used for and that may be it.
And it does seem like they have been pulled from the loot table but I really doubt it. Otherwise there will eventually be a segment of the player base that simply cant make the new recipies either do to no drops or because horns are to expensive and we run into the same issue that was there at the start of mod 6, lack of the highly desired weapons as crafting options.

And therin lies the problem with their "solution" to the screw up. Newer players are going to be penalized, while older ones are also. Nobody wins.
Good point Turial.

Thats what my point was. If they've been pulled from the tables then how are players supposed to make these greensteel
items? And if they are still in the loot tables and they are only useful for making certain items then thats BS too.

Nope, I'm still seeing them drop on occasion..... They're still there....
And basically worthless...... Hmm , now what to do with all the ones sitting around gathering dust....
It was a horrible fix to a rather glaring, obvious, dumb mistake.

Well they are likely trying to slow down the introduction of these new green steel items in the future much in the way that the "good" recipies require scales in almost each ingredient. Its a tried and true way to slow down all but the most determined (those people you just cant do much about in the end) and it introduces a new class of players that didn't exist before as the new content is typically balanced around a maximum probability group and we will now have a section of the power gaming base that just wont be able to reach that level. Not to mention it places casual gamers and semi-s even farther down the list.
But thats just me and my tin foil hats.

I proposed multiple times that they use medium horns (who cares about those) for ALL the new recipes they've added... and put in large horns as a 2 for 1 tradein for any large to help balance the current: "Anyone have a scale to trade, I have bones."
Since 1.5 bones are used on average in the available recipes compared with 2.5 scales on average. The rest hover near 2 used per average.
Though Eladrin did kind of almost hint that Horns may have another use in the future.

Maybe their drop rate has been decreased, because I haven't see many either (haven't pulled any yet, and I haven't heard people complain about pulling them, which happened a lot before).
You can actually get some money out of them on the AH, if you have too many of them.
Yea he did hint they would have some other use.
This whole situation really gives you an idea of how screwed up things are at the top. First off, they weren't suppose to be in the loot tables when mod 6 came out. Then when they were dropping for all those months and had NO use... Turbine did nothing saying they would be very valuable mod 7. They said that but imo did they really have a clue as to what they were talking about? I mean was the plan all along for horns to be the main ingredient in making other omitted green steel weapons? I don't think so. Seems to me that Turbine decided to add other green steel weapon options... still hadn't found a use for the horns yet... and figured what the hell... lets pair the two.
The whole thing stinks big time IMO. How can you have medium and large horns that drop in a raid be as valuable as energy cells that you can buy in Meridia. It is silly and badly badly thought out. In fact... it wasn't thought out. Plain and simple. It was a rushed fix to a problem.
