I've only ever seen items with +3 to UMD. Do higher pluses exist in DDO?
So the question I have is it worth it to spec UMD to say 8 or 9 with idea of using scrolls, wands, or items with say 20-24 UMD?
Or is that just going to be a 100% waste of skill points?
What could I reasonably expect to boost my UMD to with stat bonuses and items?
Thank you for feeding my knowledge.

There is a Staff in Ghola-Fan thats +5 and a Pair of Gloves int eh Titan Riad thats +5 as well.
You can also make a iteminthe shroud that can provide up to +6 More.
Persoanlly, I dont think a UMD under 20 is worth the effort. THat being said, Its very easy to Hit 20
8 Ranks
2 CHR Bonus
3 GOlden Cartouse
4 Greater Heroism

Right now the best strictly UMD item is +5, shroud items can increase that another 6 with a tier 3 item. Greater heroism can bump it up another 4. There is a cleric spell that bumps it up another 2(for some reason I can't think of it right now). A luck item can increase as well
And then depending on class or race you can use skill boost enhancements to temporarily increase it by a possiible 5. Rangers, rogues and all humans get this.

I think my sorcs +/+/+ dagger gives +6 to CHA based skills, so that would include UMD...of course thats a lotta crafting
to get a boost to UMD.
Seven Fingered Gloves from the Titan give +5 I believe.

There is no cleric spell that gives +2 to Skill. Recitation does TO Hit, AC and Saves.
Prayer gives +1 Luck Bonus.
the Delaras D20 Gives +1 Luck Bonus
The Head of Good Fortune fromthe Reaver gives +2 Luck Bonus.

Also remember for items you do not need to constantly keep the UMD score to the minimum required, just when you are equipping it. I would farm for planar girds just so you can hit that GH whenever you want when you log in to equip items requiring UMD to equip. The let your gird recharge and you are good to go

Any greensteel weapon with +/+/+ will give you plus to all CHA skills.

certain combinations can create items that give a +3 on a tier 2 item and +6 on a tier 3 item to all charisma based skills. I think it is positive/positive/positive. I would have to check the crafting planner. Someone who is more into Shroud crafting than I am can probably answer better

Yes, Pos/Pos/Pos will give you +1/+2/+3 to Cha skills. I believe triple Air will have the same effect. As for it being worthwhile to invest a few points in UMD, it can be useful. My sorc has a UMD in the low 20s, which allows him to use wands of lesser restore and cure light/mod wands. The cure wands are cheaper than using Greater Heroism to get someone up from incapped, and the lesser restore wand is cheaper than just using potions to recover ability damage. It also allows me to equip some RR items as well. I would say if you plan on having a high charisma, then it is worth investing some points in UMD. Without a high charisma, then you won't get enough benefit unless you put a large investment into it.

ACtually, its Items, Not Weapons. Weapons can increast your Chr thopugh.

The staff is a scam though, since it is a staff you can't hold anything else in your hands while it is equipped, therefore it is only useful to bypass race or other restrictions on equipment (maybe weapons if the UMD check takes place before the weapon is in hand). It is nice for the true seeing clicky though.

One little nuance about Prayer, it can only be cast in a quest instance, not in a public instance which makes it a little less significant for some UMD uses (like equipping items).
One thing to keep in mind, for EQUIPING an item, you need to meet the UMD number, there is no roll involved. If the UMD value is 16, you need to get to a total skill on UMD of 16 to EQUIP the item.
To USE an item (Wand or Scrolls mainly) you get to add a d20 roll on top of your UMD skill and compare that to the UMD requirements on that item. So for example, if someone had a UMD of only 5, they could actually manage to trigger a UMD 24 scroll on a roll of 19 or 20 or 10% of the time. Not something you want to count on. Don't forget simple things like just boosting your CHA via items or even spells if you don't have at least a +4 item. A little Eagles Splendor can help at low to mid levels. As will a COmmand item until you get something better than +2 bonus to UMD (Cartouche, Gloves, etc).

Check out this downloadable crafting planner. I used it to learn most of what I know about crafting.

Although I think with the introduction of the Voice of the Master trinket, the Rabbit gloves just became virtually extinct.

well the what i'm seeing is a +/+/+ only in a spell point item
Greensteel Gloves With Wizardry VI, +1 Cha Skills, +50 sp, +2 Cha Skills - True Resurrection (1/day), +100 sp, +3 Cha Skills - Greater Disruption Guard (On-Being-Hit chance, DC?? Will Save or be destroyed vs. Undead)
so this will work and i'd not have to get the gloves from the titan or i could use in addition to also you would get 300sp

It doesn't have to be on gloves, since you can do the same thing on any non-weapon, but yes, that will work. Another popular choice is N-P-PS. You get one less UMD, but you get several other bonuses on there. I would play around with it until you decide what you would like to go for.
