Hey all.

Obviously new to the forums, and the game.

First toon I rolled was a rogue. I got to level 6 and I was scrolling through the unavailable list for enhancements. I see the Acrobat option and fighting with a quarterstaff seems really interesting. Is it viable? I saw the assassing tree and it looks powerful, but I wanted to try out the quarterstaff. Am I gimping myself here?

As a general rule rogues should not take a specialty at level 6. You have too many better things to spend AP on first. (Like sneak attack damage, ability scores, and saving throws) But later you could look at a specialty.

As for Acrobat, the main reason to get it is the knockdown immunity which comes at level 12. The secondary benefit is the dexerity buff (which is only helpful if dex improves your AC and/or attack). As to whether a quarterstaff is a good idea for you, it comes down to 4 questions:
1. Do you use TWF?
2. Do you use a shield?
3. Is your strength high?
4. Do you have Power Attack?

Most rogues will prefer to do either TWF for best damage, or shield for best defense. If you fit in neither of those categories, and your strength is enough to use a quarterstaff, you can try it. Power Attack would make that additionally advisable.

I think its a completely viable option to use a quarterstaff. I am leveling up one now and as Angelus_dead said this option really works much better for strength based rogues. The way my build is planned I will actually have equal strength and dex at level 16 (21 w/ no gear or tomes). I do not plan on using power attack, there just aren't enough feats for me to fit it in under my current plan.

Really? You'll have at least 6 feats by level 16; and you think that all of them are more useful than Power Attack?

Well guess I should say one of the possible out comes of my build doesn't have power attack. My Thief-acrobat is actually planned for a rogue13/bard1/fighter2 and is a dragonmarked elf.

First feat selection is : 1st least dragonmark, 3rd extend spell, 4th dodge, 5th mobility, 6th lesser dragonmark, 9th Spring attack, 12th THF, 15th ITHF, 18th GTHF.

My second choice for feat selection is : 1st least dragonmark, 3rd extend spell, 4th dodge, 5th mobility, 6th lesser dragonmark, 9th Spring attack. 12th power attack, 15th weapon focus : blunt, 18th Improved crit : blunt.

And before I make my final decission I'll have to find out for sure how two-handed fighting works with quarterstaves.

2hf Feats for Quarterstaffs dont make sense at all. the benefit.... If there is any...... is so minor you'llnever notice the difference.
