View Full Version : No re-post of purchased auction items

I am really tired of spending a couple days bidding on items, only to have the same items re-appear on the aution for outrageous prices. This is one way plat farmers spend thier time.
IMO: purchased auction items, should not be allowed to be re-posted for a length of time. This will make those plat farmers have to hold items and soon they will have no room left to hold thier stuff.
I play several MMO's, and DDO is probably one of the worst as far as controlling these sort of things.

Wait a while before reselling an item you bought off of auction? What MMO do you play that operates in such a way? I've never heard of it and definitely doubt it would have any decent impact.
What makes you think Plat farmers won't sit on items for a few days / weeks?
Not every person who finds an auction deal is a plat farmer, some are plat raisers. That was not against the EULA last I checked.

Your idea would simply give us maybe a week or two of fewer spamming tells before they increase, as the farmers begin to stagger the items they sell / buy off the AH. It wouldn't solve anything.
And it would be extremely annoying. A lot of the plat I make comes from flipping items on the AH. Most the loot I get is just vendor trash, and I tend to run fully stocked on pots so it's tough for me to amass any sort of stockpile.
Kinda sounds like you're ticked you lost an auction and just want to punish other people so they get ticked, too.

I dont understand what you are complaining about, you are blaming plat farmers(other players) for out bidding you(bid more next time) and you not getting what you want(get it yourself).
How do you know, and why would Plat farmers buy off the AH, it would be a waste of money, for what little they would get. Just because you did not get the item in question does not mean there is a problem with the system.
If I buy something off the AH and repost back on the AH for more then what I bought it for, why would it sell more this time and not when it was first put on the AH. A item sells for whatever people are willing to spend on it. Just because it has a high buy and starting price does not mean someone will buy it, it will sit there for 3 days and they will lose there posting fee and be stuck with a item unless they post a lower starting price and buyout, and it will stay there until someone says wow that is exactly what i have been looking for and buys it at a fair price.
Next time Bid more plat then the next player, thats why they call it a Auction House

You can buy items at the brokers for about 10% over the list value of the item.
Stop by the broker around 10:30 PM and see what people have sold during the day. You just might score something nice.
As for me, at auction I (almost) REFUSE to pay over list value on any item. I try to get it on the cheap. If I don't I do not worry about it. I will find that item eventually, maybe.
There was one item I PAID a lot for
+3 Short BOW of DISRUPTION = 250,000 GP or 25,000 Platinum on buyout. And I do not complain at all about that price.
Send me into the desert with that or madstone crater with that and I am a pretty disruptive dwarf.

You got outbid. . There is lots of people with a ton of money that is legitamately earned. And once it is your item, why should the game dictate what you do with that item.

Considering plat farmers are still selling festival cakes and cookies from Christmas time, I dont think they mind sitting on things.

So you bid too low, and another player outbid you and was selling it for what they could get for it...got it...um... you know that is how some players make their plat in this game...
Unbound loot is unbound loot. If you can trade it repeatedly by and, you should be able to do the same by AH, otherwise people will stop using the AH

Whoa, making platinum! I know that's what I pay $10 a month for.

Which in turn lets you repair items, buy items, buy supplies, craft, buy ingredients so you don't have to grind until your eyes bleed, etc. Sorry you didn't realize there were uses for money in this game.

Somehow I manage to have fun, despite not being obsessed with loot.

And other people somehow manage to have fun, despite enjoying doing other things than you. Actually I know some people that have fun by "beating" the AH by getting those killer deals and turning them for a profit.

Well, it takes all kinds. If making virtual money gives some people their jollies, well, whatever.

I just had to relate an oddity.
I use the auction house from time-to-time if I can get a nice item I haven't run across, but I haven't tried turning items into gold through resale...however...I was browsing recently and found a shortsword that was listed at a buy-out of <10% of value....i.e. I could get more than the listed cost by immediately reselling it to a vendor, which I did. Hey, it was there, so what the heck...

AFAIK, this is a fantasy adventure game. If people really find it fantastically adventurous to do what they can do in real life (i.e., make money), I have no response to that. I guess it's just another power-gamer thing I just don't get.

Not necessary.
It's not my fault that people post nice gear for outrageously low prices sometimes (+1 Flaming Burst Rapier of Puncturing for 10k plat, which I turned around and sold within 2 hours for 60k).
Sometimes gear isn't really posted for what it's worth, and somebody decides to make an investment. Deal with it.
