How would a WF Paly/Wiz go over? Like a lead balloon to most folks, but what about 3 Paly / 13 Wiz with current level cap ?

28 point build ( no 32 yet )

Str 8
Dex 8
Con 18 (+2 tome +2 enhancement +6 item) = 28
Int 18 ( +3 tome +3 enhancement +6 item) = 30
Wis 6
Cha 8 (+3 tome +1 enhancement +4 lvl +6 item) = 22

To assist with the glaringly obvious shortcomings like saves taking feats of Force of Personality, Insightful Reflexes combined with paladin should make those more palatable.

Would this even be a worthwhile build to play other than for fun?

Can it be effective ?

I have a Pally/sorc but that is different. The Pally part is good low level because of the tankage. With 8 str/dex you can't hit much or do much dmg. I would suggest either more dex for finesse or at least a 10 in each so you are not minus hit and dmg. The other problem is the minus to cast due to armor. If you go mith you can make it up with arcane docents but lose some other stat. If you go Adam it is really hard to make up the negative casting.

In conclusion: He will be -1 to hit, -1 to dmg, -1 to ac and fail a lot of spells with a smaller spell point pool. I would suggest getting a mean pet, a tank friend, a healer and lots of wands and scrolls.

Could I be the beneficiary on your life insurance policy?

If you are going to multiclass caster with Paladin, go with Sorceror. Even with the -2 to Cha from WF, it is well worth it. The bonus to saves, high number of SPs, fast casting of Sorceror combined with the self healing of WF arcanes, and the ability to wield a weapon occasionally is worth it for some. If you do this combo though, I suggest sticking to 2 levels of Pally, as Fear Immunity is not really worth losing a level of spells. I strongly suggest waiting till you have 32 point builds for this (you can grind it out in a couple weeks from scratch, if you have 1000 or so, it can be done inside a week with some dedication), as they are somewhat ability intensive, a +2 Cha tome would be very useful too.

Edit: If you are set on Wiz, normally that is paired with Fighter, for a true Battle Caster and a huge number of feats.

So it comes down to yes it would be fun, it's not suited to most of the forum folks due to min/maxers.

Effective, very much so.

To Recap with inserted tomes:

Str 8 ( +2 tome)=10
Dex 8 (+2 tome)=10
Con 18 ( +2 tome +2 enhancement +6 item)= 28
Int 18 ( +3 tome +3 enhancement +6 item)= 30
Wis 6
Cha 8 ( +3 tome +1 enhancement +4 lvl +6 item)= 22

With new potion mechanics, you can't drink a remove fear potion while feared (this needs to revert) so fear immunity is a good thing.

As a 13 wiz / 3 paly this works out well.

an update on how i'm doing so far with this:
32 point build
Mekanical: level 8 ( 1 paly / 7 wiz )

str 8
dex 8
con 20
int 20
wis 6
cha 14

113 hp

feats: toughness, NT/IMT, extend, maximize

so far having no problems in any quests, quite fun if a bit challenging at times

Looks like it's too late to convince you, but I have to agree with the other advice... pally/sorc would be the way to go.

It's simply a matter of stat spreading.

One other point: while fear immunity is nice, it's not really all that handy at high levels, for three reasons:

1) You can cast greater heroism on yourself
2) If you didn't want to burn a spell slot, you could scroll it on yourself
3) Fear immunity items aren't that uncommon: Reaver's Ring, Helm of Freewill, DQ belt.
