dual affinity question

Seems to me this is a simple question. Say you are going for the Mineral II weapon effect. That means the final upgrade is Positive + Earth, with Earth being the dominant focus.

If that is the effect you want, does it even matter what the other two aspects on the Positive Imbued shard are? Say I want the EDM effect, so the final upgrade would be EDM + PXX, meaning XX should not even matter because the effect will never be seen. Do I understand this correctly?

If you want EDM you need PDM.

Yeah, I'm looking at rewriting the wiki's page about crafting. That page is a little to confusing right now.
