View Full Version : Why Haven't We Added Merida To The Teleport List?!

I think the question is quite clear. it's bad enough I have to use greater teleport STILL in private instances, but to have no teleport area to one of THE most important parts of the high level adventure is adsurd!
If you do not want people to waste resources just running there and/or /deathing in taverns, it's time to add them to at least ONE of the teleport spells, or have a NPC that teleports you there if you have made the run before (like Tangleroot.)
And fix Greater Teleport already!
There, complaints done.

The only other option is to immediately provide Twerpp with a Platinum Dragon flying mount so he can fly there. There I said what I needed to say too. Oh yeah Sweets wants a pink-winged My Little Pony and Thriand wants a luck dragon. "Falcoorrrrrrrrrrr!"
Let me know ahead of time when this hotfix will take place thx.

...probably because it is in the Story line. Read it and ask for the 12 to overcome the limitations.

I read somewhere in the forum that it was to be implemented with Mod 7 but they were having problems with it working properly and that it was to come with a future update.

As was posted by another player some time ago................ During the tent invasion a memeber of the 12 was teleporting people to meridia an there is a guy in meridia who can teleport you out. I can obviously be done in both story and game mechanic programming. They just choose not to.

It was stated by a dev that the issue of a teleporter in meridia was a touchy subject with them. In his own words he said, the community keeps saying they want open spaces to travel, so we gave it to them..... now when they have them they want a teleporter. It seems to me like this is some sort of staring contest between players and Devs. We all need to grow up................ the method used for tangle root would be the best option for meridia.

I never read that but with the size of the forums and number of posts per day, I wouldnt be surprised if I missed it. Having said that, I doubt that excuse was true, for reasons Ive already stated.
There was in fact a way to teleport to meridia during the tent invasion................... anything else said is just an excuse out of the journals of engineer scotty.

wasnt the original teleporter just a lucky pull because the guy would port u randomly anywhere if u ****ed him off?
as for us wanting outdoor areas to adventure in, yes we wanted these but we dont want to be slowed down by these when catching up with ur grp that is getting rdy to raid in the shroud, .. oh wait you would have to drop grp too. yes basically i think our mentallity is we want our cake and want to eat it too.

Yup, but it still shows that they CAN teleport us from Stormreach to Meridia...
Dev's have stated that people were asking for travel, i.e on foot, to be put in game.
What they put in was travel, which could be bypassed with /death. So why not just have a teleporter??
Makes no sense. A'course Im sure the Devs say "well, they just /death so lets leave the teleporter on the back burner
for now"
Remember kids, the Dev's on DDO dont have unlimited time/resources...they have to pick and choose whats worked on.
If /death gets you to Meridia, why worry about a teleporter?
Oh cause what if you want to change yer bind point? Are you worried about dying running Trial by Fire? Or maybe you
you like to bind in the Necro...for all the LFM's we see there...

It wouldn't be so bad if the road to Meridia weren't populated by spiders who run 40 miles an hour and hit like Lawrence Taylor.
People don't complain about travelling everywhere else because travelling no where else can result in so much damage or even death to a high toughness level 16 who has an unlucky roll or two. It just seems so.... unnecessarily punitive.

I think there was a mis-communication, the Dev's thought we wanted explorer area's to explore so I run to Merida would be fun. Well when you have done it a few hundred times, it get's old, also you have to realize that the Dev's view teleport as one spell, and they are not going to spend a lot of time to tool around with one spell.
However the whole ranged combat system is broken, if there not going to fix a system, what makes you think they are going to fix one spell?

I seem to remember an interview with Kate and her saying something about people want to explore and run in the outdoor area, so they're not going to put a port to meridia in. It was around the first month or so after mod 6 came out, on one of those MMO fan sites.

A simple solution would be to create an item that lets you teleport to your res location
(ie: something like a royal guard mask). That way you would have to at least make it out
there (following the story line) and only the people not overly excited about running
in open spaces (most everyone) would have the opportunity to farm one.
Oh yeah and make it a random chest drop that only appears in coal chamber.
That would make us happy :D

Im normally pretty hesitant to jump on the "come on this is ridiculous" bandwagon when it comes to the game's development, as I always feel there is a balance, a limit to resources, only so much the devs can do, priorities, etc.
But...come on this is ridiculous! Give us a darn transporter that works like Tangleroot. That still gives the exploratory feel the first time until you get there. Heck, even make us run the Shroud once for completion before you get the privilage. But come on...the current state of this is sad and annoying, and the /death method of getting there is pretty pathetic if it's the intentional game mechanic. If the "game lore" is some reason to not supply a teleporter...how could committing suicide in a public tavern fit into the storyline better?
This one is just bad...plain and simple.
And no way it's a "resources" issue. This just can't be a difficult mechanic since it exists for EVERY other instance and public area in the game.

One would hope that changing the UI menu for that one spell would be easier than debugging the whole ranged combat system.

Yep. But it does serve well to highlight the overall feel of the "improvements" the game gets...someone over at Turbine is apparently rolling a d20 to see which fix or feature gets worked on each cycle...

Although I agree with this...on my server it keeps all the newly acquired lowbies (and believe me were talking loads of em) out of meridia. And considering the "Submerger" Sarlona has been subjected to......this is a good thing.
/death is sometimes so much quicker.
Always a Silver lining isnĀ“t there?

or possibly the stormreach health association has decided that wizards and sorcs and other umd characters are getting overweight from lack of exercise so they have forbidden the 12 from adding it to the teleport list.
i agree with the teleorter like tangleroot idea more because it would allow everyone to go, but then everyone would get fat like the sorcs

Tick off the wrong people for giving you what you wanted and they just might make /death not work in taverns anymore

The Devs are too busy working on important things, like "Hirelings."
Why should they waste important time on fixing obvious things? The "NPE" and "hirelings" are much more important.

A high level area being dangerous. That's just unthinkable...
We do need some form of travel as well though. I say change the greater teleport to allow for telelporting party members to and from places even public areas. We also need mounts, boats, and siege machines.

I've suggested this numerous times:
Make that lazy guy Geriatrus just inside the gate to the Twelve a teleporter just like the guy in the One Ear Bugbear Inn in Tangleroot. (you know the one who tells you to scram until you've talked the Chief Ungurz and after you've done this is more than happy to zip you out to Splinterskull anytime you ask)
This satisfies so many people on so many levels its just plain silly not to. One: It satisfies the need of 98% of the playing population who are sick to death (literally) of using the Tavern Taxi (/death) to get to Meridia. Two: It satisfies the Devs desire to force people to make the run to Meridia (at least once anyways). Three: It requires next to no coding time on the Devs part as no new mechanic is required (just copy the code from Tangleroot) - the NPC is already there doing nothing else (and happens to be at a perfect loction for such an important job (right at the fork in the paths to the Tower and Meridia gate). Four: It helps sell The Twelve as a location, which is a ghostown these days (lol - we wait almost two years to get inside and then no one goes there at all because there is little reason to!). Five: those folks who like running through the Vale are not inconvienced in the least (just run right by Geri to the gate up the hill). Six: it allows those players who do not have access to teleportation spells to get to Meridia just as easily as if they did. Seven: It satisfies 98% of the playing population who are sick...oh did I say that already....that the vast majority of the paying, err...I mean playing, population want some way of teleporting out there (this "hard wired" way and having it added to the teleport spells lists, etc)
It's as easy as this: Click on Geriatrus. A dialog box comes up saying exactly what he says now if you have not been to Meridia and talked with the Grandmaster there. However if you have spoken with the Grandmaster in Meridia in person, Geri's dialog box changes to, "The Grandmaster has told me you are working to help us in this time of crisis. He has given me special authorization to teleport you to Meridia, if you wish, to continue to your efforts on our behalf" or something similar.
It's really not that difficult - I mean a temporary guy for the live "Invasion" event could do it - why can't Geriatrus??

People wanted more explorer areas, more "space". Rather than hate on the devs, hate on those of you who demanded more "breadth". They made the bed, so now we have to lie in it.
As said earlier, watch out or the devs'll take the \death damage exemption in taverns away.;)
