i'm the guy with the wizard monk so i like the idea of an arcane monk (if only we could get the enlightened fist prestige class huh?). i'm sure your build will do just fine but let me tell you why i didn't go for sorcerer for my arcane monk. the major reason is that sorcerer requires you to invest into cha, an ability that doesn't really give any benefit to your monk half unless you're an initmamonk or you're for some reason going to rely heavily on UMD (and even then that slightly higher CHA mod is minor improvement). with wiz i invested a little in INT whihc at least gives more skill points. since your plan uses elf(which is a very cool idea for the displacement, my huamn wiz monk had dragonmark of sentinal for SoF and PfE) and not a 32pt human or a drow, that investment into CHA can be very taxing, especially on your already sour CON. you're looking at at least a 14 CHA investment for your 4th lvl spells... 12 if you're planning on getting a +2 CHA tome before those lvls in sorc are reached. the only thing about the 8th lvl of sorc that you mention being cool for you character is firewall... is that really worth that much of an investment? you'll likely never be hired into a party under the assumption that you'll be responsible for main mage... so someone else in the party will have a bigger better firewall than you.

here's a crazy idea if i may be so inclined to make it:
maybe just take 6 sorc for 3rd lvl spells, and then take 2 paladin for ac aura and CHA to saves... then your investment into CHA will get you some nice additional benefits.

Not much of a chance. In D&D there is a feat you can take so that monk/sorc characters work better, which allows you to use charisma in place of wisdom for some monk features. That doesn't exist in DDO.

Wall of Fire is good, but... there's many other spells a sorc would like to get. And will eventually get.
Abundant Step is not good. It's surely not worth aiming at monk12 just for that.

Extended Displacement from dragonmarks isn't helpful to someone with sorc levels, because you could simply cast the spell. A pure monk might want the dragonmark, though.

I disagree. It may not be the best build in the world but it looks solid enough for me. Wizard would likely be a better fit though, due to charisma being next to useless for monks. Intelligence at least gives skillpoints (as one of the posters above me mentioned)

As for Abundant Step. It might not be as useful as some have made it out to be, but it sure looks FUN which is a big plus... in my eyes anyway.
