Build Name: The Brute
Author: Sigfried Trent
Requester: Venar
Last Updated: 07/20/10
Key Words [Warforged, Paladin, Hate Tank, THF]
Objectives
The requester wanted a warforged using the brute enhancemetns to ensure agro of creatures immune to intimidate. In short a WF hate tank. Now that we have Defender of Siberys we can lay on a whole lot more agro amplification as well as increased ability to lay out damage and survive the return fire.
Design
Hate tank is an interesting balance of strong DPS to generate the agro with the ability to survive the backlash. This can be a challenge in a game system where offense/defense tend to be set up such that going for one sacrifices the other. Defender of Siberys easily outstrips any other hate generating system giving you more than double the agro generation in stance. On a strong DPS build no one is going to be able to touch that. Paladin also helps in that exalted smite can make for some enormous criticals only other paladins can match. It really shouldn’t be possible for anyone to take agro via DPS from this build if it lands a critical hit on a smite.
I was tempted to splash two fighter, but the paladin capstone is good, especially for raid bosses and that is one of the places where hate tanks really shine. You loose out on GTWF but the use of that has been marginalized a bit anyhow.
AC should be in the low 50s in stance which is not stellar but is passable. With raid buffs it should get into the low 60s. Its still not quite raid ac tank range but it will lead to at least some misses on a good number of targets. Saves are very solid as with any paladin and hit points are pretty decent, especially in stance. While not built for healing the build does have some lay on hands for emergencies. With an arcane backing up its healing it should be a Juggernaut both in offense and defense.

Play
Much of the time you can function like any DPS and lay the hurt down on just about anything yet have a bit more durability than a typical barbarian or Kensai. As a hate tank you need to exercise a bit more caution, making sure your healer/repairer can handle the damage you will take. As you have few actual weaknesses, its not a hard build to play. Make sure you get good at hot bar mashing as the divine sacrifice and smites take some attention in combat.
Variations
You could go for the fighter splash, but I’m not sure you would gain a great deal from it.
