Just throwing this out here to see what others think of this combo.
Monk 9/ Ranger 7.
Going Ranger 7 gets the ability to cast barkskin plus the Tempest enhancement. Without the character planner to see if there are enough feats available for everything monk that I would want it's hard to say.
Just seein if there are any opinions out there..

Throw in a level of rogue or fighter for the additional 15% haste boost :)
Flurry of Blows, GTWF, Tempest, Haste Boost should be pretty fast attack rate.

Well all flurry of blows does in DDO as it stands is increase your BAB, and the monk stance that increases your attack speed(wind) only works with monk weapons (kama for TWF).
So, honestly as it stands right now from what I can tell they don't stack all that well, but that is just my first impression after reading and very briefly starting a monk on the test server.
Unarmed attacks do not get any benefit from the TWF feats.
They seem kind of two exclusive things, either you go unarmed and don't gain anything from Tempest or TWF (not 100% sure on this but doesn't seem like it would work) or you go with kama's which are a pretty lackluster weapon choice.
Still all depends on how/if any of it stacks...

Might have to play around. The 1 lvl of Fighter will get me an extra feat where the Rogue will get me more skill points.
Ack.. definately have to wait until the Character planner gets updated to see the full progression.

In PnP Monk 9 is a reasonable breakpoint, and provides the valuable Improved Evasion and an increase in movement. To me, it really depends on how many Monk levels you will have in total by level 20.

Depends on your Reflex save too. Low Reflex Monk's should really strive for the Improved Evasion, the 36 Dex Monks maybe not such a big deal.

Was going to add that. If this was just a Monk/Ranger build without a 3rd class, I would still go Monk 9/Ranger 7 in both cases. Ranger 8 only gives you allows you to cast what a potion provides on Barkskin. Monk 7 or 8 are not that great in terms of level breaks either whereas Ranger 7 offers a lot.

This is something I've thought a lot about as well. Going with the tempest would give you TWF, ITWF, diehard, manyshot, rapid shot, and bow strength...
But 14 monk is a real nice breakpoint too... so I couldn't decide if the 20 point resists were worth the extra level of ranger. I think I'd go 10/6 with the ultimate goal of going 14/6.

14? There isn't anything great about 14 for monks. 12 or 13 is much, much better, and both provide for Ranger 7.

Well, was mainly thinking of how saves stack up. Saves go up on even numbers, and 13 gives diamond soul. If you were willing to give up diamond soul, 12 monk wouldn't be a bad break.
13 monk has same saves as 12 monk and 7 ranger has the same saves as 6 ranger.
So you give up some saves by multi classing on odd numbers.

It's way too early to say. Several classes get nice Enhancements at Level 14 (I'm lookin' at you Barbarian, you cheatin' class you!)

I wouldn't take 14 monk for +1 to saves. Your saves are going to be ridiculous anyway.

Yeah.... that's what I said ("Ranger 8 only allows you to cast what a potion provides on Barkskin").

i would plan on going pure monk until you see all of the feats, enhancements & figure out what stacks with what

While I am completely planning on a pure monk, there's a chance something like this will be my second monk. Kamas may not be all that as a weapon, but smiting, vorpal and possibly even wounding kamas could be rather effective if swung fast enough.

Flurry of Blows INCREASES bab??? IIRC this is in direct contrast to PnP, my buddy had to be very smart (flanking, etc) with flurry of blows for it to be useful because it had a nasty to-hit penalty.
Additionally I've got 2 vorpal kamas FS :D

Well, Ranger 8 = +4 Barkskin (potion is only +3). It increases to +5 at level 12 Ranger.
But close enough to not be worth the 7 ranger. 10 Monk / 6 Ranger = 3 Nat (from Potion) +2 Monk (at level 5/10) so in reality you get the same increase to AC.

Ranger 8 = +3 Barkskin, Ranger 9 = +4 Barkskin, etc. But you're right, it isn't much of a difference unless you're trying to go uber AC build...

Considering that the class abilities start getting real good after 9.

i am staying pure

I've only done one lvl of wiz to my monk. Having access to low level wands and 1st level spells. I like to soften the mob up with debuffs, and buff myself of course. Wand of web or grease for crowd control.
