haven't seen a thread here yet, but are any guild leaders talking about how we are going to unlock this new raid..... I mean w/ all the heavy hitters and grinder's we got on this server we have to be first right.... just a suggestion take a small braak from the shroud runs and get a couple people flagged for all the raids ...that;s what I'm going to be working on come tonight

We plan on doing nightly shroud runs like we have been doing for 2 months, probably 2-3 a night.
Of course we will do our share of Reavers, Titans, and Queen as well.
The most time consuming to complete is Queen just because of the flagging process. I would suggest everyone flag for dq so we can hit that one hard right off the bat.

We've been making some plans on getting all our characters flagged for all the raids and will keep an eye out for the release date so we can make sure our timers are good for that day.
And yeah, abbot has been removed from the required list:

I Know IFV is gearing up for mod. Been much discussion on our plan of attack and getting as many characters as possible ready for the raids. I should have 6 characters ready for all the raids when 7 goes live.
Looking at the other forums and seeing whats up, I cant imagine any other server coming close to beating us.

Why don't we all take the day off as well and sit the impatiently as the maintenance window gets larger and larger. Then once the servers are up and we've downloaded all the patches, we get a message that the servers are going down because of a critical issue.

That being said, GSI will most likely be running raids just as often as usual, with maybe a couple extra Reavers/Titans thrown in just to help out.

Gotta disagree Coldin. I know as the guy that organizes most of the raids I plan to pretty much raid nonstop till the new one is unlocked. I may take a break for little things like work and sleep and such but not much more than that. I have already started the process of getting 7 toons flagged for the dragon and DQ. Got 7 for the titan, 6 for the reaver Atm and 6 for the shroud.
And heck if enough of our guildies are not interested to fill out the raids I may *gasp* pug it.

Which means I'll not be playing for three days before the release....well maybe I'll do kobold assault over and over or something,
And then I'll be the first in there to grind out the same old raids and get everyone back on timer so that when the server crashes I can come here and read the thread of the week about LoLcats with the remaining 6 hours of my sick day.

Like I said, I think the server vs server thing is pretty cool. To me it's not like war in the trenches to the death...more 'bragging rights' for fun. This has definitely lit a fire for me to get some characters DQ ready and VoN ready.
It isn't about wanting to be first, or caring about who's guild did what. I just like the idea of helping to participate in something that affects the server. So when we go into the new raid, I can think "Hey, I helped open that."
Now, those hopes will probably be dashed when Legion gets all the raids done and keys turned in in the first hour, while I'm still at work. But in case it takes more than a few hours to accomplish the work, I would definitely like to be part of it.
Actually, this raises an interesting question - how many keys would be necessary to make it meaningful, without making it ridiculous.
For example, 12 from each quest, and it will be over in about an hour when Velah falls
120 from each quest, and it will take a few hours, but probably not more than 6 (10 full groups completions of each quest)
1200 from each quest, and it will take probably between 12-24 hours (100 full group completions of each quest)
12000 from each quest, and I would guess will take probably 2 weeks (1000 full group completions of each quest)
1200-6000 seems like a good number, unless the devs are going for some sort of serious resource commitment.
I'm assuming that everyone will be able to share keys with each other to reach the goal. If it's not possible to share keys, then I would probably triple these numbers.

My votes are in.:D IMHO, I don't see me raiding any less or more but if the average player on our server raids 1/2 as much as I do, we will have all the new content unlocked in no time. I'm excited to see all the He Did/She Did..........or is it possible that this server wide activity of working together for one single goal will get us to put the UGLY side of competition aside?

Based on the vague information released so far, I am extremly disapointed in this next release. Farming of all the old raids we have done a million times over just to get to do something new??? If it does require mass amounts of these "keys" to unlock the new raids it appears to me to just be a stalling technique so that the new content is not immediately beaten. Why does our new content have to come with "strings" attached. And the feeble attempt to mask true intentions with the guise that this is something that will "unite" the servers triggers my gag reflex. It appears to me to be walking a very shady line. It was/is unacceptable for certain guilds to beat new content and brag about it, but now lo and behold we can brag as a server to the other servers. For some reason it has been lost on devs and players alike that not everyone enjoys the same style of play. That to this point has been the allure of DDO. If you choose to grind for that raid loot you really want - you can; if you choose to spend hours on end role-playing - you can; and everything inbetween. Trying to unite such a wide varities of people is an excercise in futility. This is DDO not a pep rally.

Brae,
I have to agree with you. I started a thread under the Development section titled Bad Idea? which started with the same theme. The Mod's and Dev's didn't handle Guild competition well during Mod 5. Some ambitious people wanted to be first; did everything they could; smoked the new content; bragged shamelessly about it; the Dev's feelings got hurt; then in response the Dev's nerfed the content so bad that very few others could beat it (and after an enormous amount of work, not fun, went into it); people from other servers were so upset that others had pwn'ed the new content that they came to an entirely different server to flame, bait, and hate the guild that did the pwn'ing; such bitter verbal rivalry ensued that the Forum Mod's put forward, rules for telling on each other rather than actually moderating the forum; and at the end of it, the Dev's are having to readjust that Raid just to get people to play it.
So what makes the Dev's/Mod's think that Server rivalry will be any better? The apparent solution at this time, is to make it a grind-fest. Just don't see that working for me.

I think at one point in time there was such a thing as server pride. Back in the olden days I was happy to be on Thelanis when we were the first ones to beat the Reaver. I think the merge destroyed that feeling. People were displaced, lost their homes and became refugees. Had I been one, I would have resented it.
Does the first server who unlocks the raid get anything other than bragging rights? Probably not.

Not sure if I agree with you on this. Even though I'm from Tharashk, I feel the kinship with the folks from the other servers. I bet a lot of people feel that it's kinda like a family...brothers and sisters can talk bad about eeach other, but get a bit defensive when people from other 'families' start in on them...as evidenced by the folks with 'Legionnaire'. :)

server competition is a good idea in my opinion, but not for DDO. there are too many people in DDO that get their feelings hurt too easily for any type of serious competition....and even if we do win and end up being the first to unlock and beat the new raid it probably won't even be acknowledged by the people at turbine...they sure as heck didnt go out of their way to mention us when we were the first people worldwide to beat the abbot and the shroud. as a matter of fact, a whole bunch of us actually got in trouble for posting about it!

Whine, whine, whine!!!
We wanted something different, now we have it!! I think it is pretty cool, even if it is stupid! And I think Thelanis will win for several reasons:
1. Legion- rather, we have alot of really good players
2. the Community- We work together rather well, and I feel we are more of a team player than other servers (yes, I have played on other servers)
3. We are organized- from the class only raids to getting together forthe kids, we love to be organized
4. Friendly- majority of us guilds get along rather well.
And finally, we are positive, happy people most of the time! It is soooo in the bag, but only if we get organized now!
Here is my people raid ready (or will be ready):
Kleo (15 sorcerer)- dragon, DQ, Reaver
Trissa (15 almost 16 cleric)- dragon, DQ, REaver, Titan
thetenth (15 cleric)- dragon, titan
Sousake (15 Pally) -dragon, reaver(?)
I am prepared to fill in spots that day for anyone who needs it. Will be working to get one of our guildies ready and expand on more raids ready on my top 4 people.

are there guilds that really don't get along?
and assuming that there are... how big of a f******g tool do you have to be to actually, in RL, hate on someone b/c they're in a different guild?
i was led to believe this was a game, game meaning play for fun. a little friendly competition between servers for bragging rights (or prizes- take the hint turbine ;) ) is great imo. but i must say i'm a little disappointed to hear about guild prejudice. FOR SHAME THELANIS! WE'RE BETTER THAN THAT!

Indeed. When that other game did a similar "alms for the new raid" event they had a server by server status page (http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/wareffort/wareffort.html?23). Reaching a goal is easier and much less frustrating when you can see the finish line.
I'm not looking forward to new monks lamenting how they should be working on opening the raid. Nor the bumper stickers on raiding capped characters that read, "I'd rather be playing my monk".

Inferus SuS will be doing our part. We raid every night of the week (except fridays...gotta have one night out ;).
We will be attempting to get as many raid ready as possible this week/weekend, and will be cutting our regularly schedule raids Teusday night, IF its said the MOD is coming out next week. We should be able to have 2 of each raid we are shooting for going at the same time.
DQ Flagging will be the biggest chore. We'll probably get each toon enough items to run it 2-3 times, so we don't have to keep reflagging.
If you see us about this weekend and wanna jump in on some flagging send a tell, we'd be more than happy to fill in any empty slots.

Yeah, oookaaay. As much as I hate the idea of Turbine forcing us to pay them to grind old content in order to see new content (insults our intelligence), I guess Legion will do their part. I'm going to challenge our folks to flag all of their active characters (and mules too if possible) for Shroud, Reaver, Velah, Titan and DQ for launch day then grind it out until unlocked.
From what I've seen on Risia, there are a lot of really nice quality of life changes in Mod 7, but Monks not necessarily being one of them. I've played my Monk through level 3 and am already about to give up on it as a viable class, splash or pure breed. Anyway, unlocking the raids is first on the agenda.
A message for everyone on New Xoriat, get your toons flagged for all the quests and off timer for launch day. If you need help, go to your who tab, sort on guild name and send someone from Legion a tell. We'll do what we can to get you in party and flagged. Don't be shy. Do the same with the other guilds as well. I'm sure they won't mind helping a pugger along for the cause. You may actually find a good home for yourself as a side benefit.

On a side note, every time I think Turbine has convinced themselves that the Abbot is fixed, they go and reaffirm their communication that they know the Abbot is broken and therefore not part of these reindeer games.
