So has anyone else been reducing their playing time due to lag. I mean it pretty bad lately. In fact i say in the top three for worst lag ever in this game. and not a word from the devs on it being fixed just the monk week is coming. God i cant think of how bad the lag will be when the new mod comes out.
Anyways so who else has cut down on their playing time. becouse i rather be at work then playing with this lag lately

Jack, it just isn't possible that thousands of other players have been experiencing lag since the last patch and it's all just in their heads. Something is messed up somewhere between their comps and the DDO servers. For whatever reason you aren't having problems with it, but you are certainly in the minority. Otherwise the only explanation is a massive shared hallucination. It is also exceedingly unlikely that something just went suddenly wrong with thousands upon thousands of players comps at the exact same time, which just coincidentally happen to occur after the last update. I personally think it's on AT&T's end.

nope, just because some people are getting lag, vast majority are not and are playing as usual. Its still the same after 2 years of playing, i guess im lucky.

Excessive Lag has been Nonexistant for me since the last Maintinance.... I've seen a couple bursts in teh shroud, but they dissapate and everythign is fine quickly after that...
I can Kite my 20-30 Mobs around inthe Vale with no issue at all.....
Peopel experienceing heavy lag really need to look client side first right now....

Well, that's entirely contrary to the experience of the vast majority of people on Sarlona. It hasn't hassled me much, but every...single...PuG I have been in for the last two weeks has had problems with it. Often times it hits all of us at the exact same time. Something is definitely going on. Like I said, though, I think it's a third party involved, AT&T, and not the people's comps or the DDO servers.

Actually, the ONLY time it is for sure Server side is when EVERYONE lags at the same time. Fo if your only seeign that Often instead of Every time, there are indeed other issues at play... Could be network, could be client... But if your lagging by yourself, its ususally not server lag.

I can agree with that. The occasional skip or rubberband or freezeframe some experience can often be attributed to something else, a different source. I have been in numerous PuG's, however, where we all froze at the same time for several seconds at a time. Sometimes it's just one second. Sometimes as much as six or seven. Noone I have been with has had their toon KO'ed because of it yet, but it is definitely happening. I don't blame DDO or become infuriated by it, but a wrinkle has popped up somewhere. Personally, I think most people who complain about it are making much ado about nothing, i.e. overreacting quite a bit to a fairly minor thing. It'll go away.
Hmmm, I suppose what does rather chap me is whilst in a fight I swing and swing and swing and no die rolls register at all while my enemy is able to hit and damage me. THAT is annoying. LOL

Haven't seen or heard of this "Lag" thing in sometime... hmmm now i'm thinking its all Make-believe :D.
Sorry to hear that you are getting lag, but I don't think you can blame it all on DDO.

If the Mob is Registering your lacion and the server is still controlling its actions correctly (IE: Hes still beating the stuffin out of ya) The server is doing its job. The lag is in the network or Client side.

The lag is intermittant but is not a client side issue, or if it is, the client lag affecting one player is affecting the other 11 players in a raid. We did shroud last night and the lag was horrible. I'm pretty certain it was not my client or my internet connection as it affected everyone and made it impossible for a perfectly capable group of beating the pit fiend in part IV. After that happened I gave up - the lag had been bad through all 3 parts but we could survive up to the point where we all started getting sent to the death room. Jumping back into the same raid with a different group might have produced different results, but from what I've seen lately once the lag gets that bad there is no way to complete the shroud so another group == same thing.
So 1) the vast mojority are not playing as usual - the Shroud was essentially shut down on Ghallanda last night. and 2) Yes you have been very lucky when you get into a lag issue like we had last night you'll know what we're talking about, and I can garantee you won't be the one toon walking around wondering why all 11 people around are lagged out - you will be lagged out with them.

I'm niot denying server lag exists.. but if its that bad you need to file a report and let someone know... I havent expericent Shroud Crippling server lag on Thelanis since the AI Correction(The second AI Correction). and I run it a couple times a night at least.

It'll spike from time to time, but not anywhere near as badly as it did in the week before they fixed the patch that fixed the update.
I am playing less, but lag has little at all to do with it.

The lag had died away, for one night. Enough so that I even posted a big thank you. But over the last few nights it has slowly been showing. No where near as bad, but it is there.
Yes, I too have cut back time in game due to lag. I play numerous other games without this experience.
Is it possible, just possible, that something on the inside of turbine, a router for example, is having issues? Maybe a port or something, I dunno, just tossing it out there. If it were something in AT&T, then wouldn't the end result also be the same? Is it possible that something in the last client update has caused some form of memory leak, or other issue? I dunno, I just play when I feel like it. Which wont be too terribly much after tomorrow afternoon.
I just hope they resolve it back to pre patch limits soon.

I had not seen shroud closing lag since the last patch either, but last night it wasn't even close - there was no way we were going to beat part 4 unless the lag died down, even if we tried a thousand times with the best 12 man shroud group ever assembled. I can't speak to anything else but I can garantee that last night ~7:30 to 9:30PM MDT on Ghallanda the lag made the game unplayable again.
I hope this was a fluke but it definately happened.

BZZZTT!!!... Wrong Answer!
You have to take into account all of the common links before you can state a specific cause... This includes Turbine's Service provider, AT&T. Everyone has to go through AT&T to get to Turbine's servers.
I know from personal experience that AT&T is the "weakest link" (sorry) between me, in Ca. and Turbine in Ma. I can, at any time you want, generate a traceroute showing AT&T "lag" at the best of times is 3 times higher than any other "hop" in my path. In fact, I just ran the following:
C:\Users\Dave>tracert www.ddo.com (http://www.ddo.com)
Tracing route to wtbigip-public.turbine.com [206.16.13.71]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

22 96 ms 95 ms 95 ms 206.16.13.71
Trace complete.
As you can see, my worst case hop prior to entering AT&T's network is 16ms at hop 10. After entering AT&T's infrastructure the best hop is 92ms. Granted, these are still functional connections, but a "small hiccup" in AT&T has a potential to be devastating.
Outside of my experience, I posted how to run this check in another thread and someone from Texas, I think, couldn't even get a non-corrupted ping response from AT&T. That's where your issues REALLY start to show themselves.
The TRUE test would be to see what kind of response somepone in Turbine's home town gets, since they would most likely have AT&T as their ISP, and see if they experience lag. At that point you could point to Turbine and say "therin lies the problem".

I made it though on Ghallanda around that time but man it was a chore seeing people DC in and out every few seconds. Nothing quite like loosing all the meat shields at the wrong moment, watching the casters try to run away like chickens with their heads cut off, and having spells go off about 2-3 seconds later then when you cast them. Fun times.

Yes. The issue could lie in Turbine's routers. Yes, If AT&T routers have an issue the problem would look the same.
In my experience (see my above post) AT&T routers are usually 3 times slower than the rest of my route (today they're 5 times slower, but that's because my other "hops" are faster). AT&T usually runs >90ms/hop for me. This may be an intentional delay, so they can sell faster response to premium customers... I don't know that they do, but it is possible to configure routers to do this.
I know through experience that Telecom companies negotiate price and performance to allow traffic to pass over each other's network, and that not all contracts are equal. Maybe this is the case. I do know that if AT&T DID have a service affecting issue it would be more apparent to end users like us because the threshold at which our service would be interrupted is so much closer. I.E. Add 150ms to my non-AT&T hops and I get 166ms delay, probably not too noticable... Add the same to AT&T and there's a 1/4 second lag spike.

I still get lag spikes which occur at the same time as others in my PUGs, although not as bad as before they patched it. Something is definitely wrong somewhere.

Well, its only system lag if it does hit everyone at the same time. I've been in pugs and one guy is complaining about all the lag and devs this and devs that, but he's the only one in the group that is being affected. Well, guess what, that is not DDOs lag. I think many people are believing the lag they are experiencing is a DDO problem when it is not.
There are several causes of lag and I wil not go into them here because they are fully explained on site here by DDO and possible fixes. Internet connections, graphic cards, processors, defrag hard drive, virus software, high resolution vs low resolution install, just to name 6 off the top of my head.
I have not experienced alot of lag. Because of all the talk, I often wonder if people are just making most of this up. I'd rather believe most just do not understand the cause lies elsewhere.
*edit* ok, correction, Is it possible an internet connection affects everybody at the same time? I'm doubtful unless everyone is playing in the same part of the country. In any case I think that would be a rare occurance. But in any case, thats still not ddo.

Sorry, My answer is quite correct...
Other than a COmplete/Catrastrophic AT&T Failure, the chance that 12 People in a Raid at the same time would experience the Exact same network "Lag" is astronomical.

here's another worthless experience and opinion:
I have two computers running at the same time on a wireless connection.
Computer A is my old junkie computer. I experienced lag, hiccuping, stumblefooting, freezes, load screen from hades, all of it. Not as bad as some have said, but ive experienced it all. I kept this computer defragged, protected etc, every week i did a full clean up. Somewhere on the forums, someone had a link to a website that let you know if your pc was able to play AOC, and other games, so on a whim i tried it. If the line that was shown was a ruler, then three inches would be the minimum, and nine inches would be the recommended. Computer A barely hit two inches. This computer also runs with about 18 fps, higher once in quest, but rarely gets to around 40 fps. Latency was always 50-55, unless lagging then would shoot up into the triple digits. Not sure of processor speed and all the other junk as im no computer whiz, but it did have 2 gig ram.
Computer B is the new one i just bought. ive stumbled couple times, and seen rubberbanding couple times, never load locked while others were, never disconnected while others have, havent frozen, nothing, no issues whatsoever (even partially major). Fps is anywhere from 60-250 (avg around 150), 4 gig ram, and pretty much best of the best. Same test on the site put me around 11.9 inches.
I havent had anything relatedly similar to what ive had before. I can run them both at the same time and the new one does just fine, the old one stutters a bit, but it still runs as well. but when theres a lag issue, the old one is hurting while the new one is running right along. Of course the few times it has stumbled and such everyone has as well, but never the group wide group wiping lag that others have seen.
Now, could i be lucky, of course. Having a spiffy new puter helps, and i know not everyone can get one, but i got to believe it gets rid of almost all of it but the worst.
No hidden message, no insinuations, no flaming, no ranting intended, just another point of view, worthless at that im sure.
rich
Ps, as an aside, someone mentioned that one person having debillitating (sp) lag could affect others, i am a very strong believer in this. There has been couple times when wife and i are duoing together, and if she hits a really large load lock/spike on old computer, i start noticing issues on new one, till she clears up. Again, not a whiz, but i can believe that one or more people having connection issues in a raid, can affect others sharing same chat server/party server etc.

Tch Tch Tch havent you all figured it out by now ? There's a new monster coming to DDO it has time stop and affects everyone in the game. What you call lag is just the effects of the monster heading this way from the dreamlands. Not sure hwta they'll call it but Lagmonster doesnt seem to work ;)

In my two years of playing I never had lag issues but since recent patches I have had bad lag. I went and got more ram, which helped a bit for speed, but more imortantly I was asked about my router.
It is older and I am no techie but he suggested bypassing it altogether and that seems to work. He said something about data tranfser types or speeds, I don't remember exactly, so check that out.
My only issue now is if I bypass my router wife aggro/hate really starts to kick in lol.
I do have a question though before new ram if i lagged i would get " stuck" but after new ram I can walk around still while lagging, and hear battle but monsters are all standing up,( when party has killed them and are 3 rooms ahead), this is really screwing me up hard to tell now if it is happening. Ideas?
