Does the Mystic Band, Spell Penetration V, stack with the feats Spell Penetration and Greater Spell Penetration?

I ask because I have a 11th level Sorc with 30 CHR, a spell penetration IV scepter ( +2 to spell penetration 1-4 levels ), and one feat in Spell Penetration. The other night I ran Temple of the Soviergn Host quest, Black Anvil Mines, on NORMAL, and had a large, large number of spell resists..a is spell resisted when the little blue bubbley burst goes off over the targets head....

So that makes me a little concerned.., I specially built this Sorc as a Enchanter... I have an enchantment focus scepter, a Spell Pentration IV dagger, just about the highest CHR that a Sorc at level 11 can have, a feat in spell penetration, used enhancements AP to Spell Penetration..and still, on normal saw about 60% failure rate on Holds and Charms due to SR.

The only other thing I can do is swap out mental toughness and take Enchantment Focus, then take Greater Spell Penetration at level whatever.. when I get my next feat...

So I think I am safe in saying that on Elite, will be kinda impossible to hold or charm???

I also do not charm the Drow Black Guards in Tempest very well even on normal.. yet I can not invest ANYTHING MORE possibly in Spell Penetration and Enchantment Focus other than what I out lined above...

Am i missing something?

I took Mind Fog... but that doesn't address the Spell Resistance issue ..

Yes all those stack. Those blackguards are a bad example, really high sr. when your high enough you should be good at beating devil sr.

Oh also i forgot to mention(sp) that if your going for max spell pen, pick up the enhancements as well!

Spell Resistance is a blue shield surrounding the target's entire body. It is based on your spell penetration vs the target's SR.
The blue hexagon over his head indicates a saving throw, which is the result of the victim's will save versus your spell DC.

His SR is based on race, enhancements, magic items, or buffs, and those don't stack.
Your Penetration is equal to your sorc level + penetration feats + penetration enhancements + penetration item.

His saves are based on his class level + wisdom + save buffs. Since he's a blackguard, he also adds his charisma to saves.
Your spell DC is based on spell level + charisma + spell focus feats + spell focus items.

Note that part of being a Blackguard is resisting enemy spells. That's what they do, as opposed to fighting as well as the other enemies in the same area.

if you seen a burst instead of a semi circular shield he was immune, and druegar are immune to most enchantments anyway

Duergar are immune to paralysis effects such as hold person/monster. Try Enervate + Ottos next time. They love to dance :)

The best way to handle those guards with ease is have a bard fascinate them and chop em up one at a time.. esp a good tactic on elite.

Bah! for some reason I thought this was going to be an epic thread about people getting banned in creative ways...

It's just a shame that, instead of a single hit dropping the SR by 4 for a limited time, each hit from a shattermantle weapon doesn't drop SR by 1. I wish it functioned like wounding - have a couple of folks pounce on the offender, smack him a few times and then BAM! Cast away!

What? I can dream, can't I? :)

Spell Penetration = Caster level + Feats + Enhancements + Items

So, an example 10th level caster with Spell Pentration feat and Spell Penetration II Enhancement and a Scepter of Spell Penetration IV casts a spell.

10 (level) + 2 (feat) + 2 (enc) +2 (item) = +16 total added to a d20 and resisted by your targets SR figure.

It all stacks together. Except Spell Penetration feat and Greater Spell Penetration don't stack you only get the highest bonus, same with Spell Penetration I II or III Enhancement and two different items won't stack either.

Possibly the BEST tactic in BAM is to have a sorc with Touch of Idiocy loaded. On most of the dwarves the touch will render them completely helpless due to their exceedingly low charisma scores.

Thank you all for the feedback...

I didn't realize that those Dwarves were immune to enchantment... no wonder I flailing in there....I had no issue with the elementals, fire and earth...

funny... so I am not so gimped.. because everywhere else I go, I do really really well using enchantments ( less undead and vermin), with my Mind Fog spell and all....

Awesome info all thanks...!!

Touch of Idiocy.... hmmm may have to play around with that for a bit....

Yep. A lot of people get confused on the graphics from spells.

Spell Resistance looks like a blue shield around the mob's body

Spell saves is a blue hexagon(?) on top of the mobs head.

Blue sparks/bubbles that kind of look like the burst out from the mobs body means its immune to it. Some people confuse that for the Spell Resistence graphic.

The duergar in BAM are immune to Phantasms (PK) and Paralysis as per the Hold Person/Hold Monster spell, IIRC.

Those guys are pretty nasty. Even my level 16 had a few troubles getting through their SR/Saves (admittedly, hes not specced for spell pen though), I just nuked 'em instead. Acid fog and max'ed emp'ed scorching ray til dead. Gets past their silly SR and saves.
