Hi All,

I was just considering some class splashing and decided to make a list of the majorly beneficial class granted feats and the levels at which they are granted. Since I was only considering splashing I kept this list to those between levels 1-4. I assume that people know which major class they are going for and know the benefits of that class and are just wondering what splashing a minor class may do for them (wow ... what a mouthful ... hopefully I've made my purpose for this list clear).

Martial, Simple Weapon Proficiency (level 1)
Shield Proficiency (level 1)

Barb:
Medium, light Armor proficiency (level 1)
Martial, Simple Weapon Proficiency (level 1)
Shield Proficiency (level 1)
Fast Movement (level 1) - 10% movement increase
Rage (level 1) - +4 to str and con, +2 to will saves, -2 to AC

Wild Empathy (level 1)
Bow Strength (level 1) - Str bonus applied to hit and damage with bow

Two weapon fighting (level 2)
Diehard (level 3)
Rapid Shot (level 3)
Note: Major benefit to a ranger as a splash is ability to heal, TWF, Bow Strength, DIE HARD, Favored enemy (Construct :)).

Cleric:
Heavy, Medium, light Armor proficiency (level 1)
Simple Weapon Proficiency (level 1)
Shield Proficiency (level 1)
Magical Training (level 1) - Gives ability to cast spells

Note: Major benefit to a wizard as a splash is free class feat and the ability to cast buffs.

Sorcerer:

Note: Major benefit to sorc as a splash is more spell points and the ability to cast buffs.

Bard:
Light Armor proficiency (level 1)
Martial, Simple Weapon Proficiency (level 1)
Shield Proficiency (level 1)
Fascinate (level 1) - Note: Dependent upon performance skill
Inspire Courage (level 2) - Note: Dependent upon performance skill
Inspire Competence (level 3) - Note: Dependent upon performance skill
Note: Major benefit to bard as a splash is the ability to heal, fascinate (fascinate benefit may become moot after mod 7 as it will be dependent upon your perform skill) and the ability to cast buffs and play bard buffs.

I hope you find this to be helpful ...

God Overview, but some things ya missed and other things you may have focused on too much......

Fighter:
Heavy, Medium, light Armor proficiency (level 1)
Martial, Simple Weapon Proficiency (level 1)
Shield Proficiency (level 1)
Tower Shield Proficiency (level 1)
Class Feat (level 1)
Class Feat (level 2)
Class Feat (level 4)
Note: Major benefit to a fighter as a splash is free class feat, more armor and weapon proficiency, more HP.
D10 HD. Only "More HP's" if your not a Barb or other D10 CLass) +1 STR Via ENH is a big bonus for many builds at L2
Pally:
Heavy, Medium, light Armor proficiency (level 1)
Martial, Simple Weapon Proficiency (level 1)
Shield Proficiency (level 1)
Smite (level 1)
Aura of Good (level 1) - +1 to AC and Resistance vs Evil
Lay on Hands (level 2)
Divine Grace (level 2) - Cha bonus to Saves
Divine Health (level 3) - Disease Immunity
Aura of Courage (level 3) - Fear Immunity (+4 saves vs fear from Aura)
Note: Major benefit to a pally as a splash is ability to heal, bonuses to saves and immunities, Lay on hands for emergency heals.
Moist of these only apply if you have a good CHR score. Also MUST be Lawful Good

Barb:
Medium, light Armor proficiency (level 1)
Martial, Simple Weapon Proficiency (level 1)
Shield Proficiency (level 1)
Fast Movement (level 1) - 10% movement increase
Rage (level 1) - +4 to str and con, +2 to will saves, -2 to AC
Uncanny Dodge (level 2)
Damage Resistance (level 2) - DR 1/-
Note: Major benefit to a barb as a splash is more HP, ability to rage and faster movement.
+1 COn at L2 Via ENH. Ability to Rage may or may not be a Benefit.

Rogue:
Light Armor proficiency (level 1)
Martial, Simple Weapon Proficiency (level 1)
Shield Proficiency (level 1)
Sneak Attack (level 1)
Evasion (level 2)
Uncanny Dodge (level 4)
Note: Major benefit to a rogue as a splash is evasion and ability to have rogue skills.
UMD Skill, Increased Sneak attack at L3, +1 Dex Via ENH at L2

Ranger:
Light Armor proficiency (level 1)
Martial, Simple Weapon Proficiency (level 1)
Shield Proficiency (level 1)
Wild Empathy (level 1)
Bow Strength (level 1) - Str bonus applied to hit and damage with bow
Favored Enemy (level 1)
Two weapon fighting (level 2)
Diehard (level 3)
Rapid Shot (level 3)
Note: Major benefit to a ranger as a splash is ability to heal, TWF, Bow Strength, DIE HARD, Favored enemy (Construct :)).
FE COnstruct? Undead is a Much better choice for a 1-4 level splash. Also a Dex Bonus Class.

Cleric:
Heavy, Medium, light Armor proficiency (level 1)
Simple Weapon Proficiency (level 1)
Shield Proficiency (level 1)
Magical Training (level 1) - Gives ability to cast spells
Turn Undead (level 1)
Note: Major benefit to a cleric as a splash is acility to heal (better classes to pick if you are just looking for the ability to heal).
There is nobetter class to pick if you want to heal Clerics get the best Wand useage for healing, Carrying DV's can be very helpful if you have a decnet CHR score as well.

Wizard:
Simple Weapon Proficiency (level 1)
Class Feat (level 1)
Inscribe Scroll (level 1)
Magical Training (level 1)
Note: Major benefit to a wizard as a splash is free class feat and the ability to cast buffs.
Cast Buffs? 1-4 Minutes Buffs are Pretty useless usually. The Free Meta and arcane Wand useage are the big benefits. Extra Spell points can be a benefit too if you have a good INT score.

Sorcerer:
Simple Weapon Proficiency (level 1)
Magical Training (level 1)
Note: Major benefit to sorc as a splash is more spell points and the ability to cast buffs.
See Wizard, but the Spell Point bonus can be significant..... a Bard with a Sorc Splash can gain over 150 Spell Points from this route. Full arcan wand useage as well.

UMD as a Class Skill!!!!! Huge. Fasinate will NOT become moot if you understand the save DC....

I hope you find this to be helpful ...

I focused on feats ... perhaps I should have delved into enhancements as well because you are correct.

These can also be a deciding factor:
IE: Fighter STR +1 at level 2 ... Ect ...

However, that is another list for another day.

In regards to UMD and perform skill ... unless you are going to take many levels of a class that has many skill points pumping points into UMD or perform (for the sake of upcoming DC) may be useless.

IE: I fighter may not put much into UMD just because they take 1 or 2 levels of bard ... since they will not be able to allocate points to it while leveling in their major class.

8 Rank - assume 1 bard level, and 1 full rank/non-bard level at the cost of 2 skill points
+15 Item
+5 charisma bonus (assuming only 20 charisma)
+4 Greater Heroism
+2 Head of Good Fortune
---------------------
34 Perform

With a 34 perform, there won't be a whole lot of saves on your fascinate, and this is assuming 1 level bard splash in your build and only 20 charisma.

You need to look at ALL the class benefits and penalties for a Complete list to base choices off of.

No One can put more than ONE Rank into Perform or UMD per Level. ANyone can keep UMD Maxed with 1 level of Bard and a 10 INT if they choose to.

As for your DC fear..... The DC is Perform Skill Plus D20..... Most folks that Splash bard are going ot have some sort of CHR score.. FOr the sake of argument, Lets leave it at a Base 10. So Take your 4 First level Perform points, add your 3 points from CHR, add a +15 Perform Item, a Greater Heroism....

4+3+15+4 = 26+d20! Thats a 27-46 DC without Trying at all. add a Head of Good Forune, a couple more Points of CHR and your over 30 MINIMUM.

Using Fasinate on Splash builds in emergency situations will stil be VERY effective.

Edit: Doh, Tok too long detailing my Perfom Numbers .. lol

I'll conceed the point on Perform then ... but not too many UMD items out there that are +15 ... so I believe that would be another issue altogether.

In any case ... the post is meant as a guide for folks who are new to splashing and want to know in general what the benefits of the various classes are.

If they really want to get into the "meat and potatoes" of it ... then they are also going to have to consider:
-Enhancements
-Racial benefits
-Racial enhancements
-Racial Feats (Humans)

There is still lots of stuff to consider ... in this post I am focusing on class feats only ... as a starting point.

You cant Splash "Human" (ALthough I've always Dreamed about Splashing Warforged so I could use some of the cool Docents I've picked up)

Racial Benefits dont care what your class is. In order to do a Proper Splash Guild, you need to include all the benfits and Drawbacks of Splashing that CLASS. Feats, Skills, and Enhancments.

I see Sorcs and Paly's throwing No-Fail HEAL scrolls all the time... Even Without a Bard or Rogue Level.... UMD as a Class Skill from a Splash of Rogue or bard is a HUGE Benefit. If y ou dont see that, then your guide will be flawed.

However, that is another list for another day.Unfortunately, it makes this list woefully incomplete. FTR STR +1, FTR haste boost... all pretty major advantages of splashing.

It's hard to get an all inclusive list. There really are a lot of benifits to be gained. (although you do lose things also....usually)

let me point out something about Wiz.
That free spell feat when used for extend is a very nice benifit....especially if you have another spell casting class.
now instead of 1-4 min buffs, you have 2-8 min buffs.
lvl 5 Wiz is beyond your scope, but haste and displacement....and 10min buffs are nice!

A lvl 1 Wiz with a 2 min shield spell is useful for ranged, TWF and THF builds.
Great choice for WF IMO.

Great Thread Idea!

Perhaps the OP can add some of the other information mentioned above as an edit to make it more complete?

Also, please mention the limits on the Martial weapons - Rogues don't get ALL Martial weapons nor do Bards.

I really think that this could be a useful thread - especially as 2/3 of my characters are already multiclassed and I'd like to be able to better judge the pros/cons of continuing with a given class. If enhancements other than just skill raises were included, that could be helpful also. [As an example, on my Rog/Clr I have 2 levels of Rogue, but am considering a 3rd to get the 25% equipment damage reduction enhancement for rogue 3 - since clerics appear to NEVER get it <what, we don't wear armor?>]

Don't omit that palladin and ranger splashes would give additional spell point bonuses based on wisdom score. This is a big consideration over fighter splash for clerics, possibly for other casters, including a pally who splashed ranger!
