So im between a rock and a hard place and can't decide which weapon effects I want.
Lightning strike and magma surge are occasional I read... How occasional? 1 in 50 or 1 in a googol? (10^100)

These are my final three choices, in order of what I know now.
Anyone able to give me any insight?

holy, acid burst, +4 ac, transmuting/keen/impact, stoneskin 2x
holy, shocking burst, +4 ac, lightning strike
flaming, acid burst, +4 ac, magma surge.

Thanks,
Leylu

depends on what character/build/and weapon.

based on info thus far, id suggest the first for dps, the second for coolness effect.

Whoops, I forgot to mention I am a ranger. Until I get some W/P rapiers, I'll be going for DPS. Could give up the +4 ac for an acid blast or something like that, but I think with the right equipment and groups I'll be able to get mid-high 50's, which I'd rather have.

I seem to only give information when asked for it, so still probably leaving out the info you guys need. Lemme know if you need anything else.

do you prefer to melee or range?

whats your hp?

where do you want to use your new toy?

and how many shroud weapons do you plan to make?

I prefer to melee, cept on Aerrtikous or whatever his name is, nasty feller.

Once I level up to 16 and get my +6 str/GFL belt from the stupid titan who is greedy and doesn't drop anything in his chest, probably around 240-250.

New toy will be used, everywhere prolly. I just came back from a very long break, so still a newb. Not quite sure on that question.

Based on answer to last question, I have no idea. I'm a fairly casual player, so I don't think I'm going to grind for months to get enough ingredients for more than two or three probably. Probably as I aquire enough of them, I'll figure out what I want at that time. But this one will be my first.

ok, now we can get to some real answers. being low on hps i would generally recommend the trans 3rd tier bow, however, considering that you prefer melee, that you probably wont be making more than one weapon before next mod comes out due to being a casual, and considering the fact that you want an all time use weapon, i would suggest a triple positive one handed weapon that matches your specs (str or dex based). its a good weapon, its very nice in 98% of the current content, and its fairly easy to craft (read: only requires 12 ingredients as opposed to 24.)

What would you consider average to high hit points for a ranger?

I'm going to try and craft some goggles w/ the blindness/fear/disease/poison immunity, and going to go with +20hp and +3 exceptional dex.

Also, I thought i read that there is a toughness helm that adds another +20 hp or so? Is that a random drop/raid loot?

If thats right, and whenever I get a +3 con tome(ever? :-) ), if my math is right, ill be at 274 hp.

my ranged specced ranger has 250 with no +6 con item (has +4) and no con tome yet. id say hes about exactly right for range specced. for melee specced, you should really try to get above 300 at least.

thought i answered the question. what are you still wanting to know?

ah, missed the minos legens helm question. you get it by turning in 20 tapestries from the vale to some dude inthe necropolis expansion. not random, and not raid. it also has heavy fort btw.

Oh, wasn't sure if getting over 300 was possible unless I rebuilt.

Have to jet though for awhile, so thanks again.

Dwarf is really the only way to get good HP on a ranger.

Disector is part ranger and has about 350hp unbuffed at level 16.

i dont know what race you went with, nor what starting con you went with, but a non-dwarven ranger with base 12 con can break 300 with a +2 con tome, 1x toughness feat, minos legens helm, +6 con item, gh 2nd rank favor, and grt false life item. get ~350 with the hp shroud item. if you went 10 con you could still get 350 if you went with 1, 2, 3 shroud hp item. and on a ranger with fire resist and a decent reflex save for evasion, you could tank the pf (on norm) with that.
