I am playing around with a barb 15 barb 1 bard build. He is human of course but from the charcter builder I think he will be able to buff up to around a 38 to 40 umd. My question is what do you guys think of it? Do yall think its worth being able to heal up after a fight with heal scrolls on your barb or not? Not only that but will be able to use all kinds of useful scrolls as well :)
The biggest draw back from the build is that he cant umd while rageing of course but he could buff himself out before he rages or set up some kind of CC before he fights... Just some ideas.
any kind of feedback is welcome :)

I am currently playing a human 10barb/2rogue TWF who will eventually be 14/2 and he has UMD. It will be 39 UMD at level 16 and so far, I love it. I have a pure barbarian and I hate being so reliant on others for buffs/heals.
I think going 1 bard is a mistake. I believe 2 rogue is superior simply because of evasion, open locks, and a nice little sneak attack bonus. So far with my build the ability to heal myself and others has allowed me to save otherwise doomed PUGS. There are many other scrolls I use as well. Such as Greater Heroism, True Seeing, Reconstruct, displacement, blur, stoneskin, Restoration, etc. I usually only self buff in PUGS since half the time they don't buff anyone except themselves.
As far as drawbacks go, dismiss rage is a handy little tool. Cleric down? dismiss rage >> res >> Re-Rage >> Great Success. Not every problem would go that smooth but having that option is nice. This build is not an easy nor a cheap build to play so I don't recommend it to new players.

I like the idea of bard mostly because of the spell focus chant and also the song buff and you dont have to umd any wand a bard can use :)
I see your point on rogue but I really liked the idea of bard and I only needed to spend one lvl on it :)

What would the starting stats be on both builds and how do you get to 38 UMD? Sorry for the stupid questions - recently back to game and still learning. Thank you

lets see starting stats for a human 32 pt build 15barb/1bard:
str 16
dex 12
con 14
int 8
wis 12
cha 15
now all my stats are without tomes or items because I dont like to assume someone has everything :P
ending stats lvl 16
str 21
dex 12
con 16
int 8
wis 12
cha 16
now if you take human verastility 3 and you have a +6 cha item and buff yourself out with a planar gird and bard spell and the dalars necklace you could hit a 40 umd on this build...
Now granted you wont have the most uberest of str as some barbs but you will be able to way more than most barbs. I think raged out you only off the top end rage str by 6 pts but Im not sure didnt run the numbers right now. You also will not have over 600 hp either when you rage so your not going to be the beefiest of barbs either LOL. The ending hp on this guy without items or rageing 376 so with that stuff it could be way higher :D
Hope this helped...

My starting Stats were :
HUMAN
Creation--------->Level 16 - levels/tome/item/enhancement = total + Rage & Rage spell = total2
Str : 17 4 / 2 / 6 / 1 / 10 = 30 = 42
Dex : 16 0 / 1 / 6 / 1 / 0 = 24
Con : 12 0 / 1 / 6 / 1 / 6 = 20 = 28
Int : 8 x / x / x / x / x = 8
Wis : 8 x / x / x / x / x = 8
Cha : 13 0 / 1 / 6 / 0 / 0 = 20
As far as 39 UMD goes :
First level MUST be rogue

3 - Skill focus UMD
3 - Golden Cartouche
