Lore of Undead in Stormreach?

Yo Stormreachers! Does anyone know the lore behind why there are so many undead in Stormreach? Is there a history of Necromancy in Stormreach? There are also alot of cults. Does this play into past events that occurred in Stormreach? Or is this all the creation of the DEVs and no real link to DnD lore? Thanks scholars of Stormreach!
