Anyone miss the forums we used to have a few months ago?

You know when the atmosphere was nicer. Where you didn't have so much flaming. When Ziggy was there ninja'ing everyone. When HSinclair and co used to pop and make sarcastic comments. I don't know, the forums just don't feel the same now.

You've got nine bajillion thread about exploits, and I'm sure I've missed a lot. And of course, none of them will ever lead to something constructive. You've got people insulting each other and probably getting infraction points for it. There are even more threads about nerfing this, or nerfing that. I was so happy when I first started reading DDO forums as they were nerf-free. Now there's almost only of that, plus those "AC is useless" threads... If at least people would base themselves on facts rather than opinions, maybe they'd go somewhere. If maybe others would be ready to consider the other's PoV...

I agree that some stuff in game needs nerfing... but it's a minimum.

Really, where are the forums going?! Even this morning, there was someone that started a thread about her need of PINK, sheesh!;)

Forums have been downright boring.

Very few constructive discussions that don't end up turning into flamewars.

Agreed, with this and the OP as well.

The forums used to be more fun. I'm less and less active on the forums than I used to be. Granted, I've gotten into it with others myself, but on the whole, yeah, the forums have changed for the worse.

Take back the DDO forums!

I do somewhat agree. I'm not sure if there is really more hostility, but there does seem to be less of two important things: fun, and interesting discussions. Spending two to three hours a day on these forums used to be a common part of my day, while now I seem to check in on them only two or three times a week. I agree that a great percentage of the threads are re-hashing the same arguments over and over, and I quickly get bored of them, and there are just fewer of them that grab my interest. Perhaps it's due to some people leaving, perhaps it's just a normal progression for game forums, I'm not sure, but I don't know if or how this can change. I will keep checking in for now though, and likely will for as long as I'm playing the game.

I blame the death penalty:D

Oops right constructive.

I think we have gotten into that mid mod rut, we always get into, just before we start to get the details on what is coming next. Also many of the original forum regulars have gone their merry way, or just on't feel like posting anymore. So we discuss the same things ad nauseum ad infinitum.

The whole exploit thing is just a big mess and we made it that way. What makes the exploit discussion different, is that this is not some argument over how Turbine interpreted BAB or whether rogues suck or not. It has to do with how people feel at a gut level, on whether someone is cheating or not. It is being subjective at whole new level, and the response are raw and emotional, because people feel they are being attacked for certain activity, or are being attacked because they do not support said activity.

We need Turbine to give us something positive to talk about, we need the info on the monks, we need a State of the Game address

Yes, but I hate to say this... but Turbine is the one to blame here.

By the lack of action taken before. By the lack of fixing the said bugs (which everyone here were awared of). And by opening Pandora's box just before a module update, while we,re in the "mid-module blues"... not a good idea. Hopefuly they are realising that taking more time for "bigger" updates was a bad idea... because it is.

Even if you only give one class "love" for a while, it'll give some people something to do while waiting for the quests. Anyway...

This isn't to say Turbine is blameless, they may have opened Pandora's box, but we dived in head first and bathed in its chaos, yes I imagine they had the best of intentions, but we all know how hell got its six lane highway with a carpool lane.

Mod 6 had much more info released by this point, with articles galore, and plenty to talk about. We shoudl be having build discussions about how we plan to build our monk before the content gets released not while we are trying to play new content.

On the module release standpoint going to 4 month releases I think was more a budgetary move than anything else, because the amount of content has not kept pace with previous efforts (mod 3,4). The rumours are that Turbine might use some of the capital it just raised to fund an expansion, which cannot be funded from DDO's profits, because there is not enough to do so, so they fund as they go based on monthly revenues. The feeling is that DDO is making a profit, and has a steady and slowly rising subscriber base.

Turbine has stated that they will be detailing how the funding will be spent some time next week, so mabye we will have something to talk about, as the president of the comapny indicated some good news for DDO players.Perhaps this is why the state of the game has been delayed, as they had to wait until any deals and moeny were finalized.

Again this is the most positive spin I can put on news articles and rumours that have been floating around lately. Who really knows what they are doimg, only Tubine and right now they ain't syaing diddly

The main cause of your displeasure is simply the passage of time. As DDO became an older game (and one with evidently slow development) there was simply less to discuss that hadn't been already covered. And as time passed and it became clear that very few modifications will be made, spending time making suggestions or critiquing suggestions became less attractive.

Yes, but they are the one taking the decision. We can only take the blame for ourselves, but they are the ones to think on how it will affect the players. The have predicted poorly. I'm not saying the players are blameless, but you know, they're like the doctor who let the man hit by Schizophrenia too early... they had the possibility to stop it all.

that may be the main cause of your displeasure, but not everyone else feels that way. There was a time before the mod 5 delay fiasco when the forums were a much nicer place, the delays with mod 5 and Turbine's lack of communication in that period left a lot of bad blood betwen the players and Turbine, we got ugly they recoiled in fear. They did better with mod 6 but lately they seem to be getting back into their old secretive habits, lets hope they have a big secret to tell us soon.

But one thing I can say is that this game is not old and stale in terms of changes, turbine has been very good at keeping us on our toes for good or bad.

Back in the ummm at some point in time... early 90s?

Me and my kids lived in this rather nice apartment in Virginia.

My oldest daughter used to play this one song all the time. I got to a point I thought it was rather amusing.. the song that is..

until I saw the video on Youtube last week. Almost made me ill...

My axe is my buddy??

Is that correct??

No idea, actually. It's just something I picked up from a guy I work with. Now I'll have to check out this video when I get home.

It is a cycle. Less stuff to do in game for people so then chat more on the forums where eventually there is less stuff to chat on the forums about so you get reduced to this sort of climate. Content production is half of what it was a year or so ago enough said. Of course subscribers are also down quite a bit since right after launch so content production is inevitably going to be down.

I do too, even if I contributed to some of the negative vibes in the past week.

Time for me to be nice Cow for a while.

Seriously though, what bothers me is that there is no room for debate or discussion it seems like anymore.

I miss the old times for sure and I miss the dev interaction.

Does anybody think that part of this might be due to the new development schedule?

Remember when we had mods every month or two, there wasnt as much "down time" between mods for complaints of the nature we are getting now. Just a thought.

I miss Maldini and his tank builds.

And Enigma as well. I loved the fact that he tried to get us to lay out a quest or two that the devs could make. I wish they would take one of his ideas and make it into a quest at some point.

Been here as a daily lurker from work since release.

I also miss Maldini...

I built his Weapon Master, still have the THF dealer of death and play him from time to time when I want to chop stuff up. I don't change my sig, since I can't add the info I used to have.. safice it to say.. my toons are are much more grown up than my Sig shows....

But if you look closely... one of my Fighter is a " Maldini Weapons Master" ...

Miss many, many that used to post.

I think one reason there is least good posting is that people have meta-gamed this to no end, and we all know the how to build very, very good toons, and there is less room for error, as we've been meta gaming for 18 months now....

But I do miss the old regulars...

I can't run past Caverns of Korromar and 'not' think of the subtle inudendo post from years back detailing how painful running 'COK' was, and sore people were after playing with 'COK', and so on and so on... those were the days when the forums were fun, and down right funny....

Long live the old timers...

I hope I can find it but I really miss two threads.

One was a thread that someone at work started the day that a loot weekend started and a bunch of us were stuck at work. So we started talking about RL stuff in DnD/DDO terms. The one that sticks out in my mind was from someone that had to take their cat to the vet and s/he said that their cat had +5 Vorpal Claws and a +20 Jump when confronted by a needle... or something similar.

EDIT: I found it!!! (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=112609)

The other one was a thread that detailed pimp stuff in DnD/DDO terms. I think that one was in the Argo forums. That one was a hoot.

The first one was lost in the forum purge I think but I'll still look for them.

EDIT: Oh I forgot about this one as well! I love going back through old posts. (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=125437)

This was back when the Mabar gang and the Argo gang were just getting to know each other. It's a wonder we didn't kill each other.
