Vista x64 and red pixilated screen

Changed stencil settings in userpreferences.ini, logged in, set in game graphics to medium. I was able to run for 30+ without problems.

Changed in game graphics to high and the problem resurfaced in just a few minutes (<5). Rebooted, changed back to medium, and ran fine for another hour plus.

Is it a desktop or a laptop? If it's a laptop, is it the Gateway P-6860FX? I have one of those, haven't run DDO on it on high settings though. I keep it set to medium base, but have shadows turned off and some AA on. It does heat up when playing DDO. When I get home I'll crank up the settings on mine and see what happens.

If lowering the settings resolves the issue, you are almost certainly looking at a heating issue of some sort. Either the game is stressing the video card to the point it can no longer properly respond, or to the point where the heat reaches an intolerable level. You might want to start with Nvidia's monitor software (free download called Ntune from Nvidia). This program allows you to monitor your heat levels as well as check on your fan speed settings. Many of Nvidia's cards are coming stock with extremely low fan speeds. If not Ntune, at the very least you might want something that can monitor the temperature of your video card.

pop the case open and blow a house fan into it. Put back on High, if this fixes definitely overheating.

Is this the new 8800GTS with the "new" g92 core? There's no way DDO is stressing this card. =o I play Crisis just fine, ofcourse not on max settings. And yes, changing the stencil settings off does fix this issue. ALL g92 cores have this problem with ddo, and ddo alone that I've heard. I know, I have one. Several guildies and friends also have it. It could be an overheating, but I seriously doubt it, as it probably only happens in ddo. Just leave the stencil shadows off and it will go away. I doubt the problem will ever be fixed.

Translation for the non eletrically inclined: Your power supply is unable to provide enough amps to feed your card. If I read threads correctly, those cards need support of 24 amps which a lot of PSUs can not supply

The geniuses at MSI defined the card to run the fan at 18%. nTune identified that and I have corrected. It is louder, but 25C cooler (77F). I can run Crysis on "very high" and 8x anti. Haven't had a chance to DDO yet, but I think I can make it work and be pretty now.
