I've been running the game fine and dandy for a while now until this morning. Quite possibly, my router died (I was asleep at the time), but later in the day having talked to my service provider I simply connected directly to my computer since it was apparently a router issue. Everything else seems to run fine, but when I went to play DDO I get an error message right after the cinematic.
Connection Failed:
Can't bind local socket. Is another client running?
And the answer there is, no, no there isn't another client running. I set up a new router and now I'm still getting this message. I've made exceptions to DDO through Windows Firewall, but I'm still getting the error. I'm running Vista. Anyone have any ideas what might be causing this?
This is normally caused by something running in the background that is essentially using the same connection that DDO is attempting to use. First, if you haven't already, just reboot your computer. This can clear up a lot of existing background tasks and allow for a fresh start.
If you are still getting the error, I would then attempt a clean boot. You can perform a clean boot by following the instructions in the following KB article:

If you are still having an issue, I'd recommend a full virus scan. www.bitdefender.com offers a free online scan. Online scans are sometimes beneficial because often the first thing a malicious file or program does is hide itself from your existing virus scanner.

Well I tried the clean boot but it still gave the same error. Bitdefender didn't find anything.
Make sure that Internet Explorer (regardless of which browser you normally use for the web) is able to browse and view web pages and not set to offline. Also check to make sure that Internet Explorer's security settings aren't set abnormally high (reset to default normally works for this). Something is either claiming or denying access to the connection that doo needs.
You may also want to refresh your firewall settings.

I normally use Firefox, but am able to surf live sites with IE with no problems. I checked the security settings under Internet Options and it says it's "Medium-high" which is I believe the default.
What exactly would "refresh firewall settings" entail? I already went through and made exceptions for DDO...
Refreshing the settings just means taking out the exceptions you currently have in and then adding them back in manually.
Normally on an update, but possibly at other times, because the file size and other attributes change enough on a file, your firewall will no longer associate your current version of turbinelauncher.exe with what it has listed as turbinelauncher.exe. By refreshing, you can re-educate your firewall as to what turbinelauncher.exe really is and that you would like to allow it access.
This can also sometimes be caused by IE being "funky" for lack of a better term. We have had users correct this by opening Internet Explorer and select "Work Offline" in the File menu. Then going back in and un-checking "Work Offline".

After playing for a few weeks solid, I just ran into the same problem. I'm pretty sure I know what caused it, but I'm unable to determine how to fix it.
System, OS, and Application:
Running Windows Vista 32-bit on a Dell Inspiron 9400 laptop. The launcher appears to be version 0. DDO was installed using the online download labeled "DDO-Mod8".
Circumstances:
Was playing for an hour, got tired, and instead of logging out, closed the laptop's lid. My laptop is set to "sleep" when closing the lid. When I opened the lid, it looks like a full boot had just run, with system tray icons I know were closed were now open, and startup programs were open on the desktop. DDO was no longer visibly running. Every time I try to start the ddoclient, I now get the same error described here.
Actions Taken
- Logged user out of Windows Vista
- Restarted Vista
- Checked Internet Explorer to ensure ability to browse
- Logged into DDO (successfully) using another PC running off the same router.
- Reinstalled .NET Framework 1.1
- Restarted router, obtained new IP address, etc.
- Reverted DDO files from backup directory (as specified in another thread)
- Performed a "clean boot" as described in this thread (however, couldn't proceed due to internet connection no longer working during clean boot. Will try this again with selectively keeping some things running). NOTE: If you try this, record what services are currently running before clicking "disable all". I didn't, and now my PC is a little different because I had to turn everything back on. Will revisit that later once DDO is working.
- Reinstalled DDO from Mod8 download
- Removed and re-added all Firewall entries recommended by DDO (ddoclient, dndlauncher, TurbineInvoker, TurbineLauncher)
- Temporarily turned off Windows firewall completely, just to see if it still failed, and it does. I don't think the router's firewall is the problem, as I'm running DDO from my wife's PC on the same router without problems.
Please help! I'm at a loss as to what to try next. I love playing DDO with my wife, and would hate to see our fun come to an end because I closed my laptop.
UPDATE (15 minutes later):
A few minutes after writing this post, I revisited the "clean boot" theory. After looking at the msconfig.exe screen for services a bit longer, I finally understood the instructions better (i.e., click the checkbox to hide Microsoft services, so you only select user-installed services). I then attempted the suggestion and IT WORKED! As a side note, something interesting happened while rebooting; the DSL cut out for 5 minutes. Can't see how they're related, but worth mentioning, just in case the ISP changed my IP, and that's what caused the fix.
Anyways, guess I need to go through my software, and find out what was interfering by turning them back on one at a time. But ultimately, I'm glad to be able to play again!
UPDATE (1.5 hours later):
After selectively turning back on services and applications, I've narrowed the problem to a single application (and it's services). My WatchGuard VPN (which I use for work) was causing the problem. However, I don't think it's an entirely accurate diagnosis, since the two applications have resided side-by-side for almost a month now. Additionally, I now see a message on the launcher after clicking Play (very briefly before it disappears and the ddoclient starts) that says "...<too fast to read>... already running" and a button to request support, but then it loads successfully.
Anyways, that's my case in a nutshell.

I have the same problem, tried various things but still can't connect, have you got a workaround?
I am asking if ddo is accessible from windows 10 pro 64 bits...
