View Full Version : Lowering Harry's hp yourself ?? You decide..

I decided to post this after several weeks of testing so others could try it and test its validity. As a result of Harry's speech where he says " I grow stronger by the minute " a person in one of my pugs suggested that he has more hp the longer he stays in the beams in part 5. He reasoned that if we were to kill the 4 mini bosses faster and get harry on the ground to fight, he might have less hp. I am usually willing to try new things . After all, we had been taking out time in part 5 alot. Going afk, talking, etc..
I began taking the approach from that day since of asking the casters and clerics to use only the sp necessary to kill the first 3 as we corral the last of the four minis and to use the pools quickly, buff on the run, and get down to business asap. I noticed immediate results. Most of our runs are now around the 55-60 minute mark when not crafting and we have had at least 7 runs where someone solo cleric'd. I have done that 3 times and ,yes, I do use a few pots sometimes mass healing in part 4 but that's ok with me. Anyway, I explain this in the many pugs I run and I'm sure it's being used on Thelanis in the runs where people complete it on the square and thought I'd share it on the forums so I could get some feedback.

I suggested this to a group and they thought that I was being silly.
My last run we did him legit and killed him right as the 2nd set of pools went away. We had brought the 3 minis down fast, with only 4 SP people who recharged quick. So. I'm willing to believe it, though would like o test it more.
I've wondered about his speech as well and whether it had meaning beyond the theatrical storytelling. Haven't attened to this in the past but will now. Sounds like a compelling reason to get a move on in part 5.

I have at least 40 completions doing it this way so I am convinced but would love input...wish I could take credit for the idea..also wish I could remember the name of the guy who did.. it was like his 3rd time ever hearing the speech so my hat is off to him...

Only the Single highest DPS player in the game flat out denied the posibility. other than that, Most were open to the concept.
As in that thread, I'll say it again. He does seem to go down much faster the less you lollygag.

Second-hand experience...
We were discussing this in a PUG last night, and some guy there said that they had done a guild raid a week or so back where three people had to go afk for like 30 minutes in Part 5... when they all got back, he said the fight with Harry took the normal time... so he didn't believe it was true that Harry gained hps the longer you wait...
(or there's a max number of hps he gains.. so 10 minute delay is the same as a 30 minute delay, but maybe a 2 minute delay means he has less hps?)

Instead of trying to kill the mini bosses as fast as possible, try killing all but 1 and waiting about 2 hours before killing him. You should be able to tell if the fight takes longer than normal. That would be the easiest way to confirm/deny this rumor.

Ran this last night with average group and one AFK guy when the last LT went Down.
We took the LTS down fast and only needed about 2 mins to recharge. Harry went down in about 5 mins--As a time indicator, I was standing by the last pools the whole time and they never went away. Afk guy was only there for last third of the fight. We had 2 clerics, we both hit the pool once, and both ended up with 40%, 50% mana when the dude died ( we also had DVS).
I mention the pools, because I remember them disappearing when HArry was only a quarter down plenty of times. I think that they are timed, and not based on HArry's Health like some people think. So if HArry has more HPs he takes longer to kill, and the pools go away.
Long story short, yes, at this point I think that the more he sits in the light the more HP he gains, but also that they are probably capped.
I think that if you get the right pull with bosses you could just kill them straight out, and then have casters recharge, and then have clerics recharge while everyone ranges Harry, and even make this fight faster,a nd eventually as everyone gets used to this, you could always kill all 4 straight out.

the only way to accurately test this is with the exact same party (not just classes, but exact same characters) 2 runs in a row, one where you kill all 4 lts quickly and take down the fiend, and another where you kill 3 and wait
although in all my experiences it's taken roughly the same amount of time no matter which way it gets done, leading me to believe that it's a nasty rumor

the pools are indeed timed. ive been in groups where he dies before any pools disappear, some where the 1st set disappear, and some where all disappear.

He started with an 18 Strength!!
(Went on and on for years about how the Two-handed feats were the bomb - He knew the exact five feats every barbarian should take without fail. He would never would listen to our posts about awesome Stunning Blow is (a crit on every swing against a stunned opponent would be something that a DPS build would care about I thought)... well, he disagreed with our posts until the cap was raised. and then he took Stunning Blow at 15th level.)
But yeah, he's the uberest of the uber. No one else knows how to build a barbarian.

LOL
I'd pit several of my guild barbs against ANY build/builder from the forums, and a few not from my guild. I imagine they would match/exceed them.

Not a really high DPS build. Not one of the highest DPS characters I've met. Not even the top DPS build on my server. But the Single highest DPS player in the game. Pretty bold...
Let's take a vote. Is the player in question THE SINGLE HIGHEST DPS PLAYER in the game?

We all care a great deal. In fact it's all we care about. Just the other day, my wife said "Honey, do you have max DPS? I hear you're not the single highest DPS player in that **** game of yours. What about that Shade guy? He has high DPS. I think he's cute."
I'm worried about my DPS.

I told my wife about my DPS and she replied that yes, buying her a GPS was a very good idea, indeed. In fact, maybe she should call her mother right then and plan out a whole family event, we could meet at the outlet mall four hours away and do lunch, then maybe shop some more. Oh! Don't forget to invite cousin Kara from Canada, and both aunts, and oh is there a museum of crochet wonders on the way?
I'm not going to talk to my wife about video games anymore. :p
Eh, in all seriousness, yep, Shade has all the goodies, and so does everyone else. But he also has some serious skill, definitely in the top echelon of players. And as we all know, it's the skill that counts more than the build or the equipment.

Im not sure that is completely accurate. What about "Somethings". You know
(Combat): You have been killed by something.
It never does state the dmg done, but it has to be a lot, cause it happens all to often.

Also I think that "something" probably has the highest efficieny rating (I have never heard of anyone that killed
"something"), the highest sneak, hide, and move silently skills in the game, because when he kills ya you never see him and don't know where he came from.
one day I am gonna find that lil pecker and I'll probably die then too....lol

We did this last night and in my opinion it had zero impact on his max hit points. It did shave time off the completion, but only by virtue of rushing part five.

Before your opinion can be considered, you'll have to give us your full DPS qualifications. Are you:
--Decent DPS
--Good DPS
--Excellent DPS
--One of the highest DPS on your server
--One of the highest DPS in the game
--The single highest DPS player in the game
