View Full Version : My Djinn tricked me!

Avelin
04-30-2008, 11:56 AM
I used my Wish Cake yesterday with my barb and chose to raise my Wis by 1 point. My str, dex, and con already had a +1 inherent bonus so I figured I would raise my Wis to increase my saves. I got the confirmation box to confirm that yes I wanted to raise my Wis and instead, my Djinn summoned a circle of 50 Hams on the ground! Is this a prank that the Djinn sometimes plays on you or is this a bug that I should have contacted a GM about? Anyone else had something like this happen with their Wish Cake?

Someone did not closely read the options presented to you at the time .... doing so results in ham....

Sorry, not a bug. A wish is a very tricky thing, always has been. If you choose the first answer then you get a shower of hams. If you pick right one he will boost your wisdom and say " seems to me you are wise enough " Sorry, I know that is not what you want to hear, at least the hams are helpful.

same exact thing happened to my Paladin. asked for +1 wis, that toon doesn't have any inherent bonuses yet. got hams. while I was talking to the djinn 2 other people were trying to talk to it and getting Otto'ed. I figured they must have triggered something that make the djinn give me hams instead of a +1 bonus. good luck with the GMs, I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you. enjoy the hams.

based on my experience you are not correct in your assumption. I have no idea what Avelin did or read but my guess is that his experience was the same as mine.

zenkao's right.

the djinn trys to trick you if you want a wisdom tome.
if you read the dialog, it's easy enough to figure out.
if i recall, that is the only dialog tree that tries to trick you.

btw: if you try to talk to someone else's djinn, you'll be forced to dance. it has no effect on anyones djinn dialog choices. You'd probably realize this as well, if you read what the djinn says when you click him.

Actually, he IS correct.

You choose the +1 bonus to wisdom from the Djinn, he will ask you if you are SURE you want a rain of TASTY HAMS. The first option is yes, I know I want this. The second conversation option will give you your wisdom bonus.

This is confirmed.

THis is how the WIsh Cakes work....

Both of you failed to read the responses that the Djinn gave you. WHen you ask for a Inherant bonus, he responds with "Yes, I want a Rain of Rain of tastey Hams" or something liek that and "No, I really want the Stat Bonus" I have a Cake left and can take a screenshot tonight if you dont believe us....

Well that may be what you have seen, however I have used 4 cakes successfully for stat bonuses, and I do know how to read. I can tell you, although clearly you already *know* what happened to me, that the dialog box discussions were no different in the case that I got hams and no stat bonus as the cases where I got the stat bonuses.
[sarcasm on]
oh wait, you must be right. I did it wrong. how could I possibly think that this game could have occasional glitches. The game is perfect, the code is never wrong.
[sarcasm off]

Get real. You haven't gotten hams by mistake so you assume that it could never be possible, but you really don't know for a fact that it can't happen. It may be the most likely explanation but it's doesn't mean it's the only one.

Wisdom is the only one that does this all others work first choice it not a bug to many people are telling you this, on your other 3 cakes did you choose wisdom? I made the same mistake once myself its nothing to be ashamed of in fact its kind of funny.

Yes I did! How cruel of the Djinn to word the confirmation like that. I honestly was hastey in my resonse and should have read it thoroughly (Didn't see anything about tastey hams-it was late and I was sleepy). I have used Wish Cakes on 2 other characters and had no problems but it was a while ago. I am glad it was for wisdom and not one of my more important stats hehe. I'll definitely be more careful on my other characters that have unused cakes. Thanks for the responses. I thought I had been jipped by the lag monster. :p

The Djinn tries to trick you on the wisdom bonus only, that is why it goes ok most of the time for most of the people. Its kinda backwards if you ask me though because if you were wise enough to figure it out then you wouldn't need a wisdom bonus.

Well that is an interesting possibility. One that I find rather irksome if it is in fact true. It is essentially a penalty/check for anyone who want to get a a wisdom stat bonus from the cake. I guess I can see that as being "funny" but why only on wisdom... oh I get it, we need to apply the stat qualities of our ficticious characters onto ourselves. I wasn't wise enough in real life to deserve to have on of my fictitious toons get a wisdom bonus. If the Devs decided to make a hoop to jump through for a +1 wis bonus, why not make some hoop for the other stats.

BTW thank you very much for a complete answer, which actually has some information as well as a potentially relevent explaination of what appeared to me to be an unfortunate glitch for my toon and Avelin's toon. I can check this out myself as I have a toon that I am going to retire that still has his cake, so it doesn't matter if I get hams. And FWIW I think the hams are pretty cool and at least they have value to the player who might have made a mistaken choice.

I will test this tonight and post my findings.

You can bring up the screen over and over and just cancel out of it and retain your cake if you want to. No Need to Burn the cake for testing purposes.

2. yes I do understand that now see 5.

4. ham is useful
5. yes, I think that is possible, Uska's explanation was more understandable to me
6. irrelevant and snarky
7. probably not, but hey, it's just a game.

For me the key piece of information was that WIS is the only "tricked" stat bonus and I still don't understand the logic of doing it on only one stat bonus. And, I think most people that got "tricked" didn't think it was all that "funny". Not much you can do about it anyway, but even I can see that hams are better than nothing, especially for free.

Yes I'll throw this out here because we had some messaging out about it around the time of the anniversary, but it never helps to remind...

Be careful what you wish for... The Djinni of the cake is not your friend, and he will try to trick you!

On the bright side, if you have the misfortune of ending up with a rain of tasty hams, remember that they're more beneficial these days than they were before. You can eat them in dungeons, and if you're a warforged, take them to the Stone of Change to receive some tasty ham oil instead.

Remember that Tasty Hams are not to be confused with Kargon brand Tasty Hams though.

Be prepared to spend a full 30 minutes trying to convert all 50 hams. They have no "convert all hams" function. It is one at a time. Which is really FRACKING annoying.

What so you could click on yes while NOT READING 3 more times? If you take the time to READ it will say "Are you sure you want a rain of tasty hams?" then a yes or no option. If you didn't read the first "Are you sure?" then why would you read the second, third or fourth. Also this was a GIFT from the devs and a +1 tome is not THAT big of a deal to get ****ed about when falling for a joke. If I had fallen for it I would have just been like what???? gone back read what happen and then laugh at my own stupidity. Its not the devs fault you didn't read specially when they post a warning about how tricky he is.

Sorry, on this one, little sympathy. Djinn in D&D are by their nature deceitful and tricky and attempt to pervert any wish you make into something not quite what you want. Wishes themselves are often treated with fine tooth lawyers to make sure what you want and get are the same thing.

What was done with the Cake and WIS option was entirely in keeping with the nature of the event. It was ironic ( and I assume on purpose ) that they chose to have the WIS option be the one with the twist in it.
