View Full Version : So there I was, in the shroud, now the new King of Stormreach
Cowdenicus

So I was running with some friends last night in the Shroud. Had an absolutely outstanding time. I got to pull my Leeroy Jenkins move in the second part of the shroud, and didn't even die (surprisingly little lag in Part 2). So we get done with part 4, enter part 5, get the 4 nameds down and I get a big Orange DING in my tell box. Who could it be I wondered.
Well I see (Admin) Cowdenicus? Now my first thought having served in the military was "DENY DENY DENY." But I seen it was a Dev (who shall go nameless unless I get permission to use the name) I have dealt with in the past (and not about some of my more inflamatory posts thank you very much) and I said hey. Well the Dev asked me if I was busy, (and oh boy was I since we had a cleric LD) and I said I sure was but that they could feel free to watch me layeth the smacketh down on the pit fiend if they would like. (I didn't quite say it like that though ;) )
Well the Developer stuck around (in ghost mode I am sure) watching us beat the pit fiend. This developer even asked me questions on certain tactics used and all of that. Boring stuff to all of you, but I just thought it was UBER that the developers were talking to me about this raid, in game, while beating the Pit Fiend.
Well for my valiant efforts, and my service to the community I was given a new item with about the most uber graphic ever. Some have probably seen it, but not on my character so here it is.
http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p224/aecowdeniii/King_of_Stormreach.jpg
So now I have my scepter, and my crown (even though it is on my shield) so by default, I must be the new King of Stormreach on Ghallanda at the very least.
As such I expect all "taxes" to be sent to me. :D
Seriously though, I want to take a second out to thank Turbine for this shield, I absolutely Love this shield. (These are the types of things which absolutely make it a joy to be in an MMO as opposed to any other type of game.), I would like to thank Jerry Snook for allowing me to help out with the podcast, and play janitor :D , I would also like to thank my fellow contributors, cohosts, cast members, guild mates (on more than 1 server), and fellow forum posters for helping me give feedback to the community and to the developers.
So from the most humble  cleric on Ghallanda,
Thank you.
(I got the uber loots, and you cant have none, ha ha ha ha ha.)

Cow, you may THINK you're the king but I AM still a god so don't get the big head or I'll have to unleash my divine wrath upon you. ;)
EDIT: Nice job and congrats Cow.

hmmmm congrats, van. Although..... I could have designed a MUCH more appropriate graphic for your shield.

...If you want the 'GM on your shoulder' feeling, try reporting your group for planning to use cheese on the Shroud Part 5 (after finding out too late to leave the group - in part 3), and then having him ask you to stay in so he can sit there in part 5 (invisible) watching your group doing nefarious things, noting down everyone's name, and asking you questions about how they're doing what they're doing.
Of course, the group tends to get a bit suspicious when both Harry and yourself are both just standing there not attacking each other... Maybe Harry has reported the group too...

You did tell them you were reporting them correct? I find it "questionable" not to be man enough to tell the group that.

Well, as per forums rules, it's not allowed to type /report (or similar) in one of your post.
I see the reason behind it, and sort of see why not doing it in-game. I mean, why do you think witness protection programs exist?;) Really, if you break the rules, do you have the right to wanr you I'll be reporting you? In my opinion, saying it in group is just getting you in trouble, it's not like if they'd stop at the second you warn them... for they'd have stopped already.
To me, the GM being there in the group is nothing more than collecting evidences against culprits of an exploit. If you really want to not be reported, act as such. If you want to exploit without risks, well at least don't PuG. I mean, to me, it's an obvious basic... no? I just don't get why you'd PuG...
It's not like these people were not awarded of the possible consequences of their behavior.
They were warned, much before you joined their group, in my opinion.

Grats dude.
The one experience I will always remember is having a GM fix the second orange name in Sleeping Dust then watching us fight from up at the shrine.
..Just wish we could get the skins the Admins have on their gear :)

Saying it in group may or may not get you in trouble. But that's the part about being a man, being responsible, whatever you want to call it. You give the group one chance to change their minds. If they don't then it's on them. A lot of people won't be the first to speak up but once someone speaks out on a topic they will add their opinion.
To change this up a bit, give me your opinion on this - Group runs the Shroud, makes sure from the beginning let everyone know we are fighting the PF straight up in Part 5, get to Part and strongly reiterate this. After the PF arrives one barb whacks him like 3 times and the PF bugs on his own. We wait 5 min to see if he is going to unbug and he doesn't. What do you do? Kill him or drop because of the AI issue?
If he bugged on his own...kill him, grab the loot, and mourn missing an epic battle. It was not purposeful on your part.

Kill him.
If the game bugs out on itself, you've been lucky. It might have bugged against you also. I've had some of the craziest Reaver runs ever, like when he didn't feel like giving a charge, at all. Or when he sent everyone but me and a cleric on the ceilling. I think that exploting is only when you do it purposely, and well, that's also fitting with Quarion's definition. But, I wouldn't stand there 5 minutes ophing he unbugs.. I'd call a GM... if the GM can't do a thing, or takes way too long...
Like at it this way. Say you're playing basketball, one of the other team's make a false move, falls on the floor... is it wrong to pick up the ball? Nope. However, it'd be wrong to push him on the floor and grab the ball though. One is doing it intentionally, the other is making it bug by itself.
If you know it's going to bug, liek in part 5, then you're looking for trouble.

Awesome post!
I call the cops on people who park too close to fire hydrants and I always tell the teacher what was said behind their back after they left the room.
People who call this ratting/snitching/brown-nosing/narcing just dont understand how important rules are to maintaining order. Maybe if you all would take the time to do the same thing, there wouldnt be so many problems in the world (and think of the friends you will make!). The whole "just let me play my laggy/daily downtime game in peace"stapo are ruining it for the rest of us and we need more Charles Bronsons cleaning up the trash.

I always assume there's a GM in my group watching me and my party members. I mean, what else can they be doing in the 10 minutes between each /tell when I'm getting a ticket resolved.

Same. Like my one of my guikdy say, "Do whatever you think you would do if +Tolero, or +Quarion, et.would be watching."
If you actually received special compensation from a GM, that'd make me rather irate. I don't care what somebody does to "help", nobody should get special compensation for it. That's just wrong.

I got the shield for my work on the podcast helping the community. The shields stats are irrelevant (from a statistical point of view the shield is not that great, like level 4ish type stats and the shield is bound to my 16 cleric)
It is just a thank you, a shield with a unique graphic.

BTW this is part of Turbines program to thank players who make positive and significant help to the game. It's been a part of Turbines policy for a long time and they are dusting it off and letting some of those who make this a really neat community get a thank you from the Devs. It's appreciated and I can't wait to see who they nominate next. :D

I hope they start giving stuff to the most argumentative people as well. We need cursed items in the game.
Either way I don't think that in-game items should be given for forum/web/etc. contributions because not everyone reads or even knows about the forums. I know once that T or Q gave us a percent of the total population that actually comes to the forums. It's an even smaller subset of that population that actually posts. It's an even smaller subset of that population that ACTIVELY posts. So IMHO forum titles and the like are fine but ingame stuff should be a no-no.

Why not, it isnt like it is top tier loot, just unique.

There was a whole thread about Ron long ago. I think it got lost in the forum purge of '07.
I think it ended when Ron said that he was just happy to be playing the game and didn't want a title.
EDIT: I looked back through the threads and I might have been thinking of the one that said he should get paid for the character planner.

Speaking of questions about this: How does one get a title?
I never saw an explanation, although there may have been one I missed now gone in the Purge of '07.
And if I ever were to be honored in such a manner, I would request "Seeker of Truth" of course.
