View Full Version : Interesting little encounter today.

I'm playing my two weapon pick fighter, working my way up to level 9. Didn't feel like grouping, so decided to do some slayer / explorer work in Sorrowdusk. Just casual, nothing major.

While I'm doing this, I get a blind invite. I hate those friggin things, and I didn't recognize the name, so I clicked no.

A few seconds later, another one.

Another.

I send a tell to the person who was doing it and tell him to stop bothering me, I don't want to join his group.

This person replies, "You HAVE to join us, we need you."

Uhhh, what?

Obviously, I explain to him that I didn't have to, didn't want to, and wasn't going to.

I got bombarded by tells from, apparently, the entire group.

"We need a warrior, it's not fair that you won't join!"

"You're being selfish!"

"Don't be a ****!"

Yeah, nifty.

/squelched

Just a really odd encounter. I never imagined anyone would honestly believe it was my duty to join their group.

You mean you don't get paid to play DDO???

Rameses must have forgotten to cut you your paycheck. Bad halfling...

*deleted* If something like that has happened more than twice since beta I'd be surprised.

Edit. Didn't mean to imply you were stressing. Bad choice of words on my part

Yeah, I'm not stressed at all.

Just found it interesting. Doubt more than a dozen people have ever experienced that in DDO.

They mistook you for a cleric is all....

That is a truly bizarre occurrence. What in the world would possess someone to start bagging on you for spending your entertainment time the way you want? Wierd. Now, if you were in my guild and it was me calling *SLAP* um, sorry, Mrs. Hordo just put me in my place...

Most Clerics have had this happen. Some Rogues have had this happen. Some arcanes have had this happen. I have had it happen on my Fighter only once.

Leader: SC
*You have been invited....*
Me: No thanks, I have SC on Elite and I was just doing some maintenance on my characters.
L: need a tank
Me: I'm not a tank.
L: lol ur a fighter
Me: Yes, but I'm not a tank.
L: really need a tank
*You have been invited....*
Me: Go Away, I am not interested.
L: good XP on Elite
Me: Listen... message me again I will report your for harassment and squelch you. I am not a "tank" I am a ranged based fighter with a Hvy Rpt. While I "can" tank if absolutely needed it is not the way my character was built and I do not do it well. Aside from that you don't -NEED- a tank for Stormcleave.
L: np chill out
*You have squelched....

WOW!
Thats funny. Not funny you had to deal with that bs, but funny they thought it was your duty to help them. LOL
On a side note, I wonder how it would have gone if they be4 sending you the blind invite sent a tell asking nicely. What did they think 10 blind invites back to back was going to make you want to help them lol.

*cheers mate* Im sorry you had to deal with that.

My main problem is this- I am a toaster with a big sword and alot of health. Somone saw me walking around, and sent me upwards of ten blind invites. I told the person like, i dunno, six times- " Hey I not interested. I already did that quest like eight times. Stop." he was trying to get me, on my level 8 wf barb, to do an STK run.
It just gets REALLY annoying...finally i said that if he didn't stop, i would certainly squelch him. Bet he thought he was being smart when he sent me another invite ten minutes later.....heh heh...squelched...
It isn't a really small problem either. It happens with small time guilds, everyone thinks their guild is the best when they make it...i got spammed(sorta) with guild invites from a lowbie saying he was allied with The Dwarven Horde...turns out he was the only person in the guild...not even close to allied with a horde of dwarves...lol

Kargon would probamally start demanding all of the party membamers drop THEIR group and join Kargon in sorrowdusk to get the slayer xp.

'But Kargon NEED a clerimic and a hastebot and a sneak attack rogue to make it go fastermer!'

I get this sometimes, my problem is if it is with an older character I am recognized and usually get called a snob.

Leader:
*You have been invited....*
ME. Sorta busy maybe later? :)
L: What the great Cord Ironwolf too busy to group with us mere mortals?
ME ***? Ummm Do I know you?
L: No you wouldn't know us we don't live in the game.
ME. Wow you really don't know me do you? /squelched

Doofus1:
Hey why did you squelch our Guild leader are you too good to talk to him?

And so it goes until I have /squelched the entire group or decided to log in with some other character.

So much for a mature community . :(

Hehe, had something like this happen with my gimpy elf archer once. I told them I was an archer and they left me alone. Would have been funny to show up if they kept bugging me, refuse to equip anything but the bow, and whine to be healed constantly :D

If my cleric squelched everyone who sent blind invites and the like, I wouldn't have anyone to run with. Build a cleric and you will find that is not a funny occurrence but apart of daily life in Stormreach.

First, the blind invite..
Then the tell saying please.
Then another blind invite from someone else in the party.
Then a tell about how they will pay me for it
Then another blind invite.
Then the rude comments.
Then the constant pinging of how I am an elitest, a snob, and that I need to do my job and heal them.

Ya get it all the time, especially on my cleric. It's most annoying when I'm grouped and get the "aww please, we will wait for you to finish even"

Seriously? I have had a cleric (pure) for two years now - and am working on a second right now (not pure). I have probably gotten less than 20 tells from people I don't know - ever - and never gotten a blind invite on any character over level 4.

Odd...I didn't start getting Blind Invites for my Pally till around Level 6. The Blind invites for my Cleric, started at Level 2 and hasn't stopped since.

But Kargon NEED a... sneak attack rogue

*sniff* Brings a tear to my eye. I've never heard anyone say they need a sneak attack rogue. Traps rogue? Needed occasionally. Sneak attack rogue? Tolerated, kinda, some of the time.

You made my day, big guy.

LOL @ this incident.

If you want to mess with them a little, accept their offer, zone in to the quest, then go AFK for 15 minutes. Might be worth a try next time.

Or maybe, join the group, then see what happens when you enter a PVP arena (the arena, not just the tavern brawling). Does it teleport them all to you?

You should make a Warforged Cleric/Paladin x/1, I don't have to run anon too much and you don;t get too many tells/invites, just from the truely desperate :D

I also concur that splashing a level of melee is good for avoiding blind invites on a Clr.

I have found, however, splashing a level of Rogue on a Cleric doesn't seem to deter them. In fact it often leads to them insulting you by picking up a "real rogue", you know a Ranger with a level or two so you can focus on healing.

Now if it was Kargon sendin' the blind invite, that would be different!

To the OP, I don't think that I've ever had it happen that bad. Usually after a blind invite, I'll shoot the person a polite tell stating that a lot of people consider blind invites rude. Usually, no further response. Sometimes, you get a 'Oh, I didn't know'. A few times, the person will beg a bit. Never had anyone get too agressive or rude, which is good!

I get blind invites all the time on my cleric, and on other characters as well (although much more rarely).

I was leveling a new bard/fighter and got about 5 blind invites from some WF barb before he sent me a tell and asked if I was interested in some PvP, I said no thanks not interested. He then procedeed to send me another couple of blind invites before I squelched him.

Bottom line is that this sort of thing happens, thankfully not that often. But I don't understand what some people are thinking when they send those type of tells and blind invites.

I believe this happen to someone that post a thread here. He joined a group and they teleported him to the arena and did very bad things to him. I don't even want to talk about it.

hahaha Threads here somewhere.

and they NEVER get blind invites :p

And I got a pure rogue, nice and quiet there too :)
Finally, I also have that WF cleric with a splash of fighter...why yes I AM a battle cleric (and they grumble about finding a REAL cleric first in group instead of blind telling me.)

It's when I have low level characters I get the incessent blind invites, and have to politely educate the teller how to properly invite.

Hmm, maybe I'll make a 8 or 6 Str fighter and make sue it's clear he or she is carrying some non tank weapon and check the blind invite tally :p

Go grab yourself a robe and some kind of throwing weapon from the general vendor.

Charge into battle with your dress and throwing weapons.

Don't bother with a bow, you may actually kill something with it.

=)
