There is no lag in DDO. You're experiencing psuedo-laglike-quasi-symptoms. It's your fault.
--It's your machine
--it's your connection
--It's your imagination
In fact, a few players have already reported not experiencing any real lag. That pretty much covers it. Now, go back to playing and be happy there is no lag.

so you're telling me when I have broadband internet, a good graphics card, and 3.4ghz processing power the lag is my fault or imagination? Its turbine having server problems or just having a flat out bad server

when 6 people lag out at the same time there can be no question its their machines and not server lag. same for entire raid groups. clearly almost all players use commodore 64s rather than suitable computers. ty for the clarification that the lag is player based not turbines fault in anyway.
p.s. i have this bridge thats for sale if ur interested.

Given that Tolero has already said they are investigating this and eagerly welcoming bug reports and other information that'll help, I reckon your snarkiness is unwarranted. Nobody from Turbine has said any such thing.
Its obviously not just "the server isn't running well" because then it would be affecting everyone, I'd think. Wednesday night I played after the hotfix with no issues. Thursday I had bad problems but two others in my party didn't have any. Mine calmed down after I rebooted, but it was still worse than usual. Last night, one of the guys who'd not been having issues the night before was having problems, but I wasn't.
Have any actual insight to share that might help them find the cause?

Ghostbusters isn't exactly restricted to a cult following. It'd be like suggesting you need to be a total sci-fi nerd to get "*I* am your father."
"I'd help with the lag but...
I know, there's a problem with your face."
yes yes i know its not a *cult following* movie, and its easier to get then some others, but i still love that line, and having used it a few times ingame voice chat youd be surprised how many of our fellow ddoers dont either catch it or go *man what are you blathering about now*.

Yeah you're obviously on top of things there . . . since the bug report tool is not functioning. Go troll somewhere else. Lag wiped 3 of my parties last night. I stopped playing because of it. I'll be back on in a few minutes here. The real problem is noone from turbine says anything about the lag. They tell us about the hotfix and the server maintenance that happened days ago but nothing about what they are doing about a condition that is making the game unplayable.

Tolero said he didn't notice it and to please submit a bug report then the next day the bug reporter died funny huh? Just accept that they really screwed up ain't gonna admit it and aren't gonna do anything about it in *GASP* the weekend. Look for mondays patch to be a long downtime. And it might work halfway by tuesday. I won't hold my breath though.

There's lag but its possibly not turbine.
Lag can be anywhere between ur keyboard and there server.. Tons of other servers that could be lagging along the way.
I played a bit last night, and I usually never lag at all but i saw a tiny bit. Other players were complaining about much more then i saw tho.

I'm guessing that since this is intermittant, it may take them a while to trace.... don't count on a fix monday (*hopes to be plesantly surprised but works in IT so expects a delay...*)

Agreed, even though it is widespread on every server (I believe) it is not consistent even within the same group in the same quest. So it should be a fun one to track down.

Which server are you on? I have a theory that Khyber and Thelanis are shelaqued, and Argo and Sarlona are OK.

It's relatively unlikely to be not on Turbine's end(or at least their ISP) given that it effects entire parties and can be triggered by having a large(15-20) group of monsters aggro'd.

agreed strykyerz, this is definitely either server issue or a newly introduced bit of code that's gumming up the works - not our connection or computers.

Well...there is one other possibility, and it will be the toughest to track... It could be the lastest fix added something to the client side processing and that some machines that exceed the minimum standards for the game but don't rely on common driver X or that do use common driver X are having trouble processing situation Y. It could happen to everyone at once if there are a lot of people in that situation (ie - problem is caused by DivX driver, 5 of 6 people have that, trigger happens when 20 mobs enter within X feet... if the group is standing next to each other, client side processing lag will happen at the same time).
I think its the least likely senerio, but I've seen patches cause client side problems and buger up an app before...And the fact that some people have minor annoyances and others have "game destroying" lag makes me wonder if client side could somehow be involved...

No ...
1. We have many guildies with top end computer setups.
2. The "spikes" on occasion appear and disappear in relatively steady state settings (that is group waiting to enter part 2 while someone crafts we start lagging badly).
3. It is persistent - but appears at different times - we have done multiple shroud runs with different party makups - the only reason we get through is limiting and predicting everything (that is no reactive behavior is effective). We are getting it every run.
Server: Thelanis
Time: Evenings
A note - as a test we actually cast a boatload of AoEs waiting to enter and could not "create" lag. We did however have it consistently in the presence of any mobs.

You might use the Dev tracker. Tolero responded twice in a thread that. gasp.. is titled "The Lag is making DDO unplayable" (or something close to that). And she was talking about the lag, surprisingly enough. I have no idea if them disabling the reporting tools is related to the lag or night. I do know its not a straightforward issue, because its intermittant and inconsistent. I ran Cursed Crypt twice last night with no sign of problems in our group (and we have machines and home locations of widely varying nature). As I mentioned, previous sessions some of us were having issues and some weren't... and it was different people in different sessions.
What do you expect them to say that Tolero didn't say? Obviously, they haven't determined the cause or they'd say so. They clearly have not said 'there is no problem, stop bothering us' as the OP implied.

Whatever they did in the 4/23/08 updates just really increased the lag issue. My theory is that it's caused by area-effect spells like dancing ball. Hopefully another hot fix will at least put it back to the way it was before.

Did some experimenting in the Shroud Part 1 ...
First off the lag is (has been) horrible since the hotfix and tonight was no exception - even getting to the experiment we had "bad" lag in Meridia and one party member could not get through Vale (why anyone binds anywhere else is a different discussion).
1. So zone into part 1 (fighting through "bad" recent lag) and wait. We had one horrible spike after about 7 minutes that started to clear in about 2 minutes and returned to "bad" lag in an additional two minutes. No mobs agrroed and nothing happening.
2. This is where it gets interesting - rezone into Part 1 and throw every AoE, Buff, Summon, etc we can think of and surprise - no noticable increase beyond the "bad" lag. That is AoEs didn't generate any additional lag for us (of course those poor saps in another group on part 4 probably got wiped - but anyway).
3. Use a single puller to grab mobs from both sides - interesting again - the lag did not get appreciably worse - BUT - as soon as mobs pulled to within party range - game over and everyone froze (same happened on two runs) - implies that one (but not only) problem may be more associated with Mobs aggro mechanic (which in theory was changed this patch) and triggers during their decision making process.
Now this is clearly not the only issue as example 1 had no aggro but if it server wide - well maybe this helps some.
