Hi all, thanks for the info re: Gianthold.
Any other suggestions about good loot runs and how to find them? you know, quick easy treasure? I have a lvl 9 barb and a lvl 7 sorc.
Thanks for the tips. It's appreciated! :)

Gianthold is good, but I have to say that I've yet to find a place like the Desert for quick looting runs.

HUMM you got it all wrong. dont worry about loot till your level 14,15 or 16 just worry about exp. As you hit the higher level quest the loot will follow. If all your doing is loot run then your missing out on exp. which mean it take you long to level, which means it take you longer to hit level 16 which means it take you long to reach the highest level quest in the game with the best level of loot.
Right now the shroud on elite offer the highest level of loot in the game but you need to be lvl 16 to get in a group. the other quest in the shroud also offer +2 tomes and such.
SO dont be chasing the loot demon till you catch the exp demon

good point about xp, however, I want to be able to contribute to a group and hold my own in battle at higher levels. Therefore, I want to get good equipment, loot, pp etc. As a newer player i dont have the resources to stack my character with all the best items... I need LOOT!
There must be some lower level loot runs out there i can run a few times just to build up my funds etc??

If you want loot at that level. I would run the desert. Get your sorc up to level 8 and make sure they have something for fear immunity. At level 9 you can use the reaver ring if you have it. There are 2 chest in the undead area that spawn the bloodstone. Since you only have one melee, once you are lucky enough to get one any others you get you can trade for some pick ticket items or sell it on the AH for well over 1million gold. Also it takes only about 5 minutes to run to those 2 chests and loot them.

I'll have to agree with JD on this one. Get the xp as fast as you can....worry about loot later.
I would add further to start focucing on your sorc. You will be able to solo much of the content in this game with him/her. Use your sorc to build up your riches/weapons, THEN build up any other character of your desire.
I can make between 50 and 100k GOLD in about 20 mins (depending on how many chests I get) on one run in the vale on my caster, and a caster does not really need anything uber to be effective. Potency item in hand would probably be the most important thing.

Trial By Fire is a pretty good fast loot run, providing you have someone in group that can make the run around to open the gate. 3 chests in a short amount of time, 4 if you have a rogue.

If you want quick easy loot at lvl 9 and 7 and the possibility of the occassional +1 tome go loot the giant caves in Threnal. They are easily within your level range and do not take very long to run.

For your level: Stormcleave, The Xorian Cypher, Beyond the Grave (2 level 13 chests and a level 11 quest reward for 5 mins of work), Desert chests
I'd wait til level 10 to do the lower level Gianthold quests (Trial by Fire, Cabal, Maze of Madness)

Levels 7 and 9!
Come on, guys, what about the perrenial favorite!
GIANT CAVES!!!!!
Oh, how we all loved those Giant Caves in days of yore! Your sorc can solo those easily with charm monster, hold monster, Otto's Resistable Dance, etc.
Takes about 10-12 minutes to loot 2 level 11 chests, and one level 12 chests, if I remember the levels correctly, and what good times bashing some giant head in!
There was a time when half of the lfm's would be for giant caves alone. Never forget those sweet memories, how they bring a tear to the grinder's eye!

Two important notes
1. You haven't provided a lot of info on your playing ability. But, if you haven't made it to level 14 yet, you're probably not really skilled (yet). So when someone suggests a loot run that they say is fast and easy, their baseline for comparison can be totally different than yours. What they call easy might not even be possible for you. Also, some responses are assuming you have a full party helping you, others are for solo.
2. I'll tell you the real best way to get quick easy treasure: Find a level 16 character and nicely ask for some loot. There is simply NO faster or simpler way.
Most specifically, if you hang out around the door to The Shroud and make friends with some of the level 16s you see going in and out, some of them will be happy to toss you loot. The things they consider junk would be helpful and valuable to you. (Hint: to find The Shroud, talk to Veneer Fnord and have him teleport you randomly until you land in Meridia).
Maybe you don't want to beg for loot, because you'd prefer to do it on your own and be self-sufficient or whatever. However, notice that by asking for directions on where to find loot, you are already looking for help from other players. It's all a continuum.

Giant Caves in Theranal it is! thanks for all the input.
and it might definitely be easier to just 'ask' a lvl 16 character for loot but c'mon man, I have my pride to think of! lol Asking directions is much much different then receiving hand-outs.

At levels under 13 or so, your "loot runs" will probably be mostly "cash runs" - any quest with lots of chests (Gwylans, Stormcleave, even Redwillow, and of course chains like Threnal & Co6, with as many Tempest Spine runs as you can get mixed in). Basically, loot as much junk as you can (always hoping for something useful, of course, but not counting on it), sell it at the best price you can get (use brokers, haggle items, charisma buffs, etc.), and then get very, very familiar with the auction house as you watch for good (or at least decent) deals on gear you can actually use.

I'm gonna make a politely intended comment that may not go over well. So, bear in mind that this is not intended to be negative...just my opinion.
Loot does not necessarily make the build. If you truly learn your character and experiment at lower levels to see what you can do, you don't need the highest end loot to be effective and to be a help to any party at higher levels.
If you have the best loot for your level but don't have a good grasp on what all your character can do, then all the loot in the world cannot help you.
(Incidently, this is a general "you," not a directed "you." I don't know you or your playstyle...you may already have this covered and are just looking to supplement what you already know your character can do. :) )

For level 7-9 loot runs, you should be aiming for some of the lowwer level NAMED loots. Xorian Chypher is great for this. Tempest spine is nice as well. Someone mentioned the old Giant Cave stuff. No named stuff there, but good low mid level stuff can be found there. The desert chests are great for named stuff, and there can be a ton of them. The orchard chests are great for nice drops as well. Lv 7 is too low to get out there, but the level 9 will be level 10 or 11 soon, and that would be the best place to go digging at that level. Another old loot run was from beyound the grave in house j. With the right group, it can be done in 5-10 mins no problem.

I run the vale solo with my 16 level sorc for loot. It takes me about 40 mins to check the entire vale for chests. I don't bother with the portal because it takes too long. I have a respectable 38 haggle on him and make between 80 - 140k gold a run depending on how many rares spawn. There are also two rares in the vale that spawn 100%. I'm not saying which ones because I don't want them nerfed. :D
I would also suggest a spell penetration item along with both spell penetration feats.

Great, now they are gonna go and "fix" Kwaeshon and Pukru. ;)
At level 9 solo, your best option is definitely the Giant Caves. Once you are doing them on Elite you can pull ML 8 weapons/armor about 1/3 of the time and hit 3 chests repeatedly 'til ransacked in an hour or two. With more people you can drop the time to ransack.
For solo runs after that, the orchard (12-14th level) and the vale (14th level+) are likely your best bets.
If you do have a group, move into the desert. The quests there are likely your best bet for better loot that can be done without twinked characters.

I must say I agree with you Angelus, though I will add that being a female really helps with that suggestion (and no not just the graphical kind). Though begging isnt a great thing youd be suprized how many vets out there willingly hand out stuff to new players just to help them out. On Kalari Ive gotten so much helpful stuff from guild and non guilded vets its not even funny. But the best advice I can give you besides running the giant caves of threnal (hell even my squishy elven mage can do it with her charm spells so if youve learned your caster abilities properly enough you should be able to be alright). Is find yourself some players to show you the ropes, there are alot of things people can teach you in this game, some that you'll have to figure out for yourself. But for the most part the most rewarding thing ive gotten from DDO is the amount of nice people who will take time and explain stuff to new players. From graphics settings to what you should carry to keep yourself alive in case no healers are about or even to help out a healer. I know some people prefer soloing and moving up quickly and I dont fault them for it, but I for one am glad to run with people who are sociable and willing to allow me to learn and give advice. That kind of stuff will help you become a better player and get you more loot in the long run. Thats just my two coppers though hope you enjoy this game and if your on Sarlona or Ghallanda see ya around sometime.

I will be rebuilding my WF sorc eventually....get int up to 10 and put points into haggle and UMD, not put one point into concentration since I leave quicken on all the time anyways. Only dissapointment I have with this character:( Ahhhh well.....live and learn.
I soloed that stupid portal one time. To @#$$ with that!!!!

Don't bother running quests for items to sell to vendors. That's not where you get large sums of plat in this game. You get large amounts of plat by selling excellent items to other players.
For this reason, the best bet at your levels by far is Xorian Cypher.
You'll get 4 level 8 chests for a 20-30 minute run (pretty mediocre on its own, but it's something). Maybe 2-3k PP per run in vendor trash.
However, you'll have about a 5% chance per run to pull a Planar Gird, which you can easily sell for 250k platinum. That's an average of about 12-13k PP per run. Also you have about a 5% chance of getting a Chaosguarde, which is worth a little bit too.
Once you get to level 14-16, there's only four loot runs worth considering, some of which are easier than others - the Desert chests (for the 1% chance of finding a Bloodstone, worth close to a million plat last time I looked into it, can be done easily at level 10 if you have fear immunity), the Cursed Crypt (1-2% chance at a Scourge Choker, worth 2-3 million plat, also other named items, can be run at level 11 but the quest has prerequisites), Shield of Legend fragments 7 and 8 (in the quest Inferno of the Damned, this is hard to learn but very fast and can be soloed at level 16 if you are careful), and, of course, running the Shroud for large ingredients.
