I recently invited a new player to join DDO. They tried it out for 10 days, and liked it at first but then on day 8 they said they were not going to continue the game... I was frustrated and asked them what the game was missing? They gave me a BUNCH of things and flaws the game had. After looking over it, over the next few weeks I came to the conclusion that I agreed with what my friend had told me! A few things they told me... (you have to look at them through the eyes of a complete newbie)
PVP: "No, its not good because when I try to fight you, a high lvl comes and kills me all the time. Its really annoying"
Leveling: "Yeah, its fun but I am only on for like 20 minutes at a time, so i don't get to finish my quest and get xp"
Enviorment: "Groups get mad at me a lot of making mistakes"
Extra Time: "What can i do if I can only be on for 5-10 minutes"
The list goes on... Unfortunately. Not sure, you might all hate me for saying this :P.Just looking for some feedback from a newish friend :p

Well first off you can't do anything about not being able to play more than 5 to 10 minutes. If that is all he has to play then no MMO will ever be satisfying.
I know a lot of players that have quit the game and almost everyone of them were players that were addicted to loot, leveling fast, zerging through dungeons trying to get just one item so having to do it over and over and over. To me this is boring and if I did this after some time I would also quit the game.
I bought the game for one reason and one reason only to enjoy questing and to quest with balanced class parties. I believe in D&D and play it like I want it to be played. I quit parties that do not meet the way I want to play. I find fun in just about every single quest in the game and run them often as this is my joy. Any nice loot I have was mostly just due to random consequence in that dungeon.
Enjoy the game for what it was designed to be not what these hack -n- slash uber loot mongers want it to be turned into. They will quit ther game soon enough and move onto another MMO for 1 year or so saying that game was boring.

The list goes on... Unfortunately, I am now looking at quitting the game too, I am not a new player, but this game does have some things that need to be worked on. I might join again soon, maybe with some new content, but right now at lvl 16 I find the end game to also be very repetitive... Not sure, you might all hate me for saying this :P Maybe youl convince me to stay. Just looking for some feedback.
PVP in a differnt Tavern.
Leveling : if your on for 20 minutes ask before you start how long it will take... find faster quests.
Groups get mad??? ***... well that happens I am sure we all get upset sometimes it is human nature... suck it in.
If your only on for 10-15 minutes there are plenty of slayer runs you could dabble in get quick xp and loot.
Yes it was why your friend left but to me it doesn't sound as though you helped him very much. Prehaps you could have explaned these things.
There are so many simple things you can do in this game... I admitt im abit of a RP'er so i even use it for that in spare monments to fill time. I guess it all boils down to ONE thing...
A game is what you make it. Im sure if you wish to have fun you could go out there and create it.

If time is an issue an MMO will never work for your friend. Play NWN2 for 5-10 mins at a time. At least you can save and continue later on.
And yes, the game is repetitive. You just have to find ways to make the repetition interesting. Favor is a great way to do this. I find some days that I just get in a favor mode and run my high level toons through low level stuff making sure they are all red in my compendium.
If I dont feel like doing favor I will make an effort to help somebody out. I like grabbing one of my perpetually re-rolled characters, heading to the harbor and finding a newbie and making their gaming experience a pleasant one. It always makes me happy when you hear the excitement from a new player when they first encounter one of the many things we now take for granted.
There is plenty to do, you just have to really want to do it.
Lets see on your points
Umm glad pvp is worthless I like it in a game designed for it but in my mind it doesnt belong in dnd
leveling well several quests are fairly short and can be done quickly
find other people to run with not all are grouches
wilderness areas for slayer and explorer just kill a few things everytime your own and you will get there slowly.

5-10 minutes .. enough time to see all the new posts on the AH you can't afford.

Consider this game a heightened version of PnP and you'll love it. I know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that nobody sat down in a living room to play D&D for 10-15 minutes at a time. We had fight scenes that were elaborately depicted and, hence, took up to 6 hours to unfold.
When you have a considerable amount of time to sit down and quest, like old school D&D, log in to DDO. It's a virtual reality version of D&D. :)

Honestly I am trying to figure out any MMO your friend can play for 5-10 min at a time and get a satisfying experience, beyond the noob areas in most MMO's I am familiar with it will take him longer than that just to travel to where he can camp mobs.....
Did you also explain to your friend about the team matches in PvP? Doesn't sound like it, sounds like you guys limited yourself to the brawling pit.

Wait, are we seriously arguing against the reasons someone decided not to play the game? Seriously? This isn't a debate we can win folks...someone tried the game and didn't decide to play because they found it lacking. There isn't really anything to debate...
