View Full Version : Wondering about guild policies

Ok, so I'd been devoting my time to Argonnessen and Khyber for a while and neglecting my characters on Sarlona. I decided to log on and check out the community on the server, since it had been about a year since I had done more that just log on to see if the characters were still there. I deleted the ones with duplicate names from the server merge, changed over any non-Drow to a Drow build, and logged on to see how a new Sorcerer/Bard build I've been running on Elves played out on Drow. Got about halfway through 2nd level and noticed that getting into a group seemed kinda hard, so I checked out the social panel to see if any guilds had characters online close to my level. I found that a guild called Ironmen Adventurers had some toons close to my level, so I messaged one of them and asked for details. They had a cool concept of only using what was pulled from chests, not buying uber equipment, and only being able to accept things from others IF it was in a guild run and was traded in the chest. I liked the concept, had not bought the character any equipment other than some clw potions, so I joined the guild Friday night and ran a couple of dungeons with them. I logged on briefly Saturday, contacted a guild member who said he had a lower level toon in the guild he'd run with me, and had to log off for a family situation before he could come back and contact me. When I logged on Sunday night, I got this nice message in the chat box in blue saying "You have been expelled from your guild". So my question is:

Is it common guild policy to dump someone from the guild for no reason, or was this just a random f'd up experience?

The sad thing is, from the two or three dungeons I ran with them, I really liked the guild and the concept behind it, but now I'm extremely reticent to even join a group because this experience has left a VERY bad taste in my mouth for relying on anyone else's help on this server. Can someone please shine a light at the end of the tunnel and let me know this is not the guild norm on Sarlona?

Well I see no response to this yet, so I'll chime in - I'm not sure what circumstances actually transpired, but you should probably chalk it up to a random messed up experience.

Since you seemed interested in a non-twink game, (shameless plug alert) most of our teams run with non-twink rules. Each team lead makes their own groups rules within the overriding Static Group concept. We have Roleplay teams, Warforged Teams, and one of our guild members "bcgone" was trying to get a Drow only Static Team started a while back that limited the non-twink further with AH with rules.

Guild policies obviously vary from guild-to-guild. However, the generally adhered to rule is that if you do not log into a guild character in 3 months you are not active in that guild (unless you give the guild-leader a specific reason for a pro-longed absence). Therefore, since you are not active, guild leaders will clear the rolls of anyone who hasn't been on in 3 months. It is not considered personal, it is general guild upkeep. Most of the time, when characters that have been removed like that come back to the guild or guild leader, they are quickly reinvited (assuming they are going to be active again)

I would edit the name of the guild out of the OP if I were you.

I would suggest sending a tell to some of those guild members for details.

If they are at all similar to argonessans' no twink guilds, then they could have booted you because you did not join at lvl 1. The one who invited you might not have remembered that policy before inviting you, and it was later corrected. Seems rather rude to do this without an ingame mail message at least though.

I appreciate the feedback, but we're talking about a guild membership that didn't even last 3 days. If there were rules about only recruiting 1st level toons, I could have understood if they had told me. I would have just rolled up a new toon and gone from there. If I had joined and gone inactive for 3 or more months, I could have understood that as well. But we're talking about a 3 day membership, and all attempts to get ANY kind of answer from ANY member of the guild has met with no response. As for removing the name of the guild, why should I have to censor that from my original post? If this is a typical policy of theirs to invite people and boot them with no warning, then others need to be aware. If it isn't, then someone from the guild needs to reply to me either here or in-game and let me know.

It could be seen as "bad mouthing" the guild. While I don't think it is, others could and may report you. Generally, using names of players or guilds is frowned on.
