Hi everyone,

First of all, I must say, I love my little sorc. (ok he's capped, but he's still only like 4-5 months old). He's human, good con, good skill points, excellent umd, in short he's a joy to play. Usually.

However, as of late I've been trying stuff I hadn't before, like running raids without clerics, (self healing mostly), and funky stuff like that, and I find that although I can usually get the heck out of the way of the fireball/blade barrier/whatever on time, in certain quests this is simply impossible and I take ridiculous amounts of damage. (DQ, actually attacking velah instead of just heroing, etc)

Therefore, I wanted to ask if people have a lot of experience with high reflex sorcerers and how that worked out for you? For this, I have been toying with the idea of switching to drow and going for either a 16 dex or a 16 int + feat (obvious pros and cons: yummy skill points, not so yummy loss of a precious feat and -1 less reflex than the dex-based approach, oh and less AC but ehh. I avoid damage based on twitch skills, not based on AC)

(I have a high reflex wizard courtesy of the new feat and he's a joy to play in those circumstances, but I doubt I can get my sorcs reflex save quite that high, and I have little experience in the low 20s reflex save arena - is it still useful? How useful?)

I personally wouldnt bother with reflex saves on a caster...

Now if you REALLY want to, even if you started with a 8 dex on your current sorc, thats only +4 to reflex more than your hypothetical 16 dex drow sorc. Not worth rerolling just for that really. What you can do to change your current sorc is spend action points on Human dex, start wearing a +4 or 5 resistance item, keep greater hero up at all times, wear a +6 dex item, get a dex tome, wear either the head of good fortune (or if you cant get the raid loot, then settle for the rabit gloves out of threnal.

That should give you a reflex save of 18 or so even with only a +4 resistance cloak (common enough on the auction house) and the rabbit gloves (a sorc can solo threnal on normal for the end reward, but its faster with a group). Thats already pretty decent for elite caster spells, just dont walk through any elite-level traps though. Even the goodblade quest traps are dc 30 on elite.

You could also get +2 more by spending the extra human feat on lightning reflexes. You get a free feat respec from the girl in the harbour if you dont want to spend the cash and shard at fred the mindflayer.

Thanks for the insight. I had assumed an 18 reflex score would be more or less useless, and that I'd need low 20s to have a shot at it making a difference, which is why I thought the +4 would make a difference. (+4 to saves can be a huge deal if you're just on the edge between save some times and save most times).

However, if in your experience an 18 reflex save makes you save most of the time on elite end content spells, I suppose I'll go burn a feat and dust off a few items from the bank to try it out. (I'm a bit hesitant to waste a +2 dex tome on an experiment, so that's why I'll use another feat instead to simulate it first)

Thanks again.
