I was getting ready to log into the game this morning on a rare morning off from work, when I saw that Turbine was finally giving every player a chance to respond to a survey, and even more excited to read that more will be coming in the weeks and months ahead.

So imagine my disappointment when I load up the survey and see that it is about PvP. I know that there is a segment of the community that begged and pleaded to get PvP implemented into te game, but I think we all feel (or at least I do, and I know many others feel the same way), that there are other aspects of the game that need to be addressed before PvP is redone or changed.

True there were a couple of questions that didn't focus on PvP, but that was the main focus of the survey. I too did like the ranking question. And of course there was the Other Comment question at the end as well.

Yes, I too was amazed to see the first choice of survey would revolve around PvP. There is a player base that thoroughly enjoys PvP gamestyle and for them this is probably quite welcome. For me though, IMHO, the only good option that was provided is to make it one on one.

My wife and I often will try to find an empty arena and try different low level spells and weapons to find out what works best against different set ups while leveling lowbies. Only to be jumped by a lvl 16 who thinks flesh to stone and various other long term spells are funny to cast on lowbies with abysmal saves.

Nice thought in putting out surveys, but I think you missed a large percentage of playerbase by starting there first.

thats why part of the servey wanted you to rank on a scale of 1-5 the importance of not only PVP but other things as well.

I'm not a huge fan of PvP, but I do enjoy the occasional capture the flag and death match.

A couple more simple arenas would be nice even if they were existing areas like the Waterworks tunnels, Irestone Inlet, or even The Plane of Night.

I'd say the survey was about PvP to delve into the question of whether PvP was worth putting the developer's time into. If you feel strongly about the issue of what development time is put into, then fill the survey out. If you don't, you can hardly claim that Turbine doesn't listen to their player base when they go a different direction than what you would choose... :D

Even if PvP isnt your thing, please take the time to quickly fill out the survey, their is a comment section as well as a ranking question where you can rank how important you feel PvP is versus new quest development.

I have been asking them to do an optional Survey on the login screen since day 1... glad they finally are doing it

Surveys on sub-topics you perhaps don't care about (like PVP, for some) are not at all a waste of your time. Instead, they're your opportunity to say "Hey, DDO decision makers, I feel you should not waste a moment of time with this topic." If enough people feel the way you do (and tell Turbine about it, using the survey they apparently will use to receive this feedback), they're not going to spend money there.

On the other hand, if enough of the player base wants more effort put into the feature, Turbine will understand with detail where their paycheck is coming from.

There was no checkbox for "I don't want PVP" so that I didn't have to answer questions about PVP refinement. Don't refine it; get rid of it.

Filled the survey out last night before I logged on, **** good job with putting it up there Turbine.

Yeah, it was about PvP, and yeah most of us here dont care for it much, but PvP is a major part of
almost every MMO out there. Is that whats holding DDO back?

Who knows. Might not be the best idea to listen to the DDO player base when it comes to PvP,
might be better to listen to the WoW player base.

Would you play DDO if it had a PvP server?

LOL
I tried ranking it as 100 but it wouldn't let me :(

I personally hate PvP and would love to see it go, it's a waste of time and resources (IMO).

Yes I would play DDO if it had a PvP server but not on that server death to PvP if I wanted PvP I would be playing SWG or WoW or waiting for AoC or War or maybe even playing fury.

I agree with you on this one.
In the comment section, " If I wanted to play PvP, I'd be playing WoW, NOT DDO"

Again, they already know that. They want you to play DDO regardless of what you want out of a game.

It is not that I don't want PvP.... I Just don't want PvP how it is in DDO, for that matter I don't want PvP how it is in most MMOs.

If I wanted that kind of PvP i would play my FPS games.. better graphics.. more options..

The only MMO I enjoyed PvP is Dark Ages of Camelot... Love strategic Castle sieging!!!!. not sure how they would fit that in this game though..

I will say the PVM *Player Vs Montser* *Or is it MVP?* in Lord of the Rings Online looks interesting... I think it would be fun to play a Kobold and beat on some PC Butt!!!

I thought the survey was great and am looking forward to more of them.

I am really curious as to whether or not the survey results will differ from forum rhetoric much.

There are many elements to PvP that I really enjoy. I would love to see more PvP developed for this game provided it was done so in a way that maintained the current themes of this game and didn't create "balance" paradoxes for the design team.

That being said I still rated it fairly low in the priority list as I would rather have more dungeons & raids than PvP even though I will continue to support increasing/improving PvP options.

rejoice!
NOW we can finally start getting feedback form the MAJORITY and not the MINORITY of the player base.

Agree. There's really no way to tell whether the opinions on the forums are representative of the playerbase as a whole...maybe, maybe not. On the other hand, it's easy to miss that little "fill out our survey" message, so not sure how many of those who don't come to the forums will fill out the survey, but it's a start. As for it being about PvP, well...not my first choice for a subject either, but, again, it's a start. At least if they get a resounding NO!, they can shelve it for another year ;)

When I logged in, the news item telling you about the survey showed up in one of those pop-up windows ontop of the launcher. I'm not sure how it decides when to use those pop-ups and when not too, but I imagine most players will notice that there is a survey to take.

I liked the survey. I especially liked the comment box where we could type in what we thought of it.

I wouldn't mind seeing results of a few of the questions, though. Like the ranking one. See what % of the population ranked <Insert Item Here> 1, 2, 3, 4, or even 5, for example.

Make PvP possible EVERYWHERE.

When people get tired of sorcs nuking them while they walk through the marketplace and level 16 barbs using vorpal greataxes on them, and new players quit because level capped people keep slaughtering new arrivals in the harbor, the picture will be quickly gotten that HI, as opposed to AI, is exceedingly cruel, dangerous, and no fun when there's plenty of damage to be dished out with no real consequences.

What I've said about favor and choose your own adventure, that should be taken into account with PvP. There should be game involving consequences for everything by design, including throwing hellfire on the horribly unprepared.

Of course, people might find it in themselves to breathe a sigh of relief that enemy casters, though spam capable with no mana limits, can't cast max empowered cone of cold and waste an entire party as easy as players take out six orcs.

I have a feeling that a lot of the anti-PvP crowd will perform a similar action but also wonder if this will only skew the results towards the pro-PvP crowd. Meaning that if only pro-PvP folks contribute to the survey that is the information that could drive design decisions in the future... just a thought.

I HOPE This is just the 1st in long line of surveys!

Really, i dont care about PvP, and I dont mind it was the 1st survery, I am GLAD to see some OFFICAIL type feedback forum, something they can COUNT, Measure, and go from there on any subject, its LONG over due.

HOORAY Turbine.

Now, do one about every 2-3 weeks, plenty of time for everyone to hit them then, and take them to heart! Majority rules.

And pay close attention to what people want in the last section, and make those topics to be the next surveys! please.

Oh, and are they going to make the Results public? That would Rock! after its closed of course! Really why not? lets see what the real majority wants!

QFT!

As someone else mentioned I was not at first excited to see the survey start out asking about PvP, but when I finished it (and I hope EVERYONE encourages all players then know to complete it - if just for the ranking of development resources (I put PvP last behine New Raids, New Dungeons, more Solo Content, and the other choices I forget) and comments!

Most of all I am glad to see Turbine doing this, and I also hope it is a REGULAR (as in Monthly) process!

Thanks Turbine for asking,

Barumar

And that is one of the other reasons I had for starting this thread, to bring it ot the attention of those inthe player base who might decide to ignore it., so getthe word out to all your friends in game and hav them take 5 minutes to fill out the survey.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that they asked for my opinon, as well as the enitre player bases' opinion, on the matter, I just think that it might have been better to start with another topic first.
