View Full Version : A bone to pick...regarding explorer areas.

Gianthold, desert
Ok..I like the explorer areas, I spend my free time there, causing havoc, killin' thingies...a little looting....a girl needs shopping money!
I am saddened that my sorc girl can no longer get any reward for killing out there...last level she could do that was level 15...and that went by so quickly.
So...
Desert...level 11 to level 12 quests (which = level 13 to 14 on elite). Explorer area level 8 to 15...So a character 1 level higher than the highest level quest available to enter can still get some use out of it.
Gianthold...Level 13-14 quests (elite=level 15-16). Explorer area level 10-18...ok...quests are 2 levels higher..and Explorer area is 2-3 levels higher...(min 2 max 3). A character 2 levels higher than the highest quest will still get some use out of it.
Orchard of the Macabre...Level 14-15 quests. (elite 16-17) Explorer area 10-19. Explorer area available to characters 2 levels above the highest level quest.
Vale...Level 16+ (18+ on elite)... Explorer area level 12-21...quests are 3+ levels higher...explorer area 2-3 levels higher...( I am ashamed...I have yet to complete the raid...so I do not know its level
My point...and I fear it is pointless...
<sigh>
Is that I realize the desert was created long before level 16 was available...so it made sense.
All I am asking for is to continue to let us get some use out of the dessert...it is only 1 level change...very reasonable...:rolleyes:
And it would make that annoying little error message go away...instead of taunting me as it flashes across my screen as my unwilling minions kill many mobs and I sit back and watch...
Please. Increase the maximum level in the desert by one...so that that annoying message will go away...and stop causing me lag. and blocking my chat window...
Please?
Give the desert some love. allow characters 2 levels above the max quest level to get credit for killing...exploring...etc.

what would be the point? just so YOU can stop having the message and get XP for exploring out there? you have GH, orchard and the vale. why do you need XP from the desert explorer area?

Also, can we have a way to stop those stupid "A member in your party is too high level to get any blah blah blah blah blah" error messages.

Because its there and the mobs are a legitamate challenge still for most l16 players?
I cant see how a change like this would negatively effect Anyone.

While they're at it, they can raise the cap on Searing Heights - that can challenge plenty of characters over level 7.

I think the level limits for exp are fine. After all you can still get the loot.
However, I would like to be able to complete the dang explorer quests once I am outside of the sweet zone. I just want to check it off! Most games I know let you go back and do noob content if you like, with diminished returns, but I cannot even get a stupid quest completed. I would love to be able to complete the quests even with NO return.

Hear hear.... even if I can't get XP for Cerulean Hills at 9th level, my OC still demands that I get the little checkie!

I think the point is that they made explorer areas for certain level ranges. When you become too high for the desert explorer area, you 'graduate' to the vale. The main problem I see with lowering the level range of the explorer area is that if you have a certain build that excels at the desert, it would give you a huge advantage over characters whose builds may not excel there. And I really don't think it's unreasonable to expect you to gain your exp elsewhere for one level.

I agree with Yvonne - Desert should be open to all currently in the game - level 16 - its pretty high content area.
I also agree with Arianrhod - Searing Heights is way overpowered for level 7 characters.

Yeah, I like this too. The Desert is still pretty challenging for 16th level characters, especially mummies and air elementals. But it is possible for melee characters to solo effectively. I can't really say that about the Orchard. I haven't spent that much time in the Vale, but some of the mobs are really tough without a caster or cleric.

Searing Heights does bug me a bit. It's a lot of work and a lot of expense to play around in there solo. I find Tangleroot to be about half as difficult, and Sorrowdusk on average to be about as difficult (depending on which part of Sorrowdusk); both of these offer more XP (reward) for a greater range of levels. I do remember reading somewhere that the casters in Searing Heights were going to get their spell list changed, which should help a little...but from what I can tell, you have about the same number of similar CR monsters per area, and the only real difference is the named (CR 6 usually in Searing Heights). I'd like either a higher reward for Searing Heights, a larger level range (since it can go south pretty quick there), or at least a shrine closer to the entrance--likely off to the right in that big patch of ruins which has Quickfeet and wolves and nothing else.
Sorry about the single-post hijacking...I'd comment on the desert level range, but I'm not high enough to get in there yet! ;)

The what happens when the cap goes to 18? People come and post "The desert is still a valid challenge for many level 18 characters, please expand the range"
There are 3 other explorer areas when you are 16...I don't really see the need to keep expanding this one

There are 3 other explorer areas when you are 16...I don't really see the need to keep expanding this oneThat is my thought as well. Challenge or not, you had 6 levels in which to adventure in the sandbox and it's time to move on. Three available wilderness areas at any given level is more than enough.
But, not to be totally negative, I definitely agree with taking a second look at level range for explorer zones. It's not right to have one zone +3 levels above highest quest on Elite and another only +1. Unless of course more content will be added to the zone with the wider level range. Wider level range is good future planning! :)

Agreed the accepted level range is inconsistent with the level ranges of the other explorer areas with quests in them.
Even Ataraxia's has a range of 7 to 14 for 2 base level 10 quests ...."~12" on Elite so the +2 levels holds here.
As to the silly message, just treat it like the Powerleveling effect in a normal quest. You get no credit, but do not get the message. It would be like getting that message everytime you kill something in Vons while getting flagged...would be (and is) very annoying.
Keep the rules that anyone over (or under) level get zero credit credit for kills, the slayer levels are not the real issue for most players. however, it would not be any real issue to let players get explorer (or even rare) credits regardless of level.
Waterworks - Rares (total = 2250), Explorer (total = 0)
Cerulian Hills - Rares (2625), Explorer (2187)
Tangleroot =- Rares (4725), Explorer (2843)
Searing Heights = Rares (4725), Explorer (3281)
Sorrowdusk = Rares (7500), Explorer (5000)
Ataxrias Haven = rares (9750), explorer (6500)
etc
While there is a nice chunk of exp from those two aspects of the the areas, the really big hitters are in the slayers awards.
Letting ALL players get those awards would not be much of a problem from what I can see.

Meh...they are not going to raise the level max of the areas...
But they are going to let characters of too high a level..accumulate kills...and explorers?
ok.
atleast I won't get that lag inducing spam message telling me a character that is too high a level is ruining it for everyone...when I am all alone..

They are planning on addressing this in Mod 7 all.
[U][B]Weekly Development Activities
NEW Players above the quest level limit for slayer, explorer, and rare encounter quests can now advance these quests to completion, but will be receive reduced XP (XP Gained = XP For Goal / (Levels Over Cap + 1)). Any other players present in the area who are not above the quest level limit will not have their quests advanced. No change has been made for groups of players who are all within the min-max level range for an area. The spammy text alerts warning players their quest is not advancing have been replaced with static informational alerts.
So we will be able to finish all those quests once Mod 7 is live :D

So. Go out to the shroud. Much better loot and easier to solo with a sorceror. Just charm monster all of the trolls and create your own little army. Nuff said.
