I have some questions on best weapons to use vs the portals in Part 1.
1) Do the portals have DR? Does anything bypass it? From my own experience, a +5 flaming greataxe of righteousness seems to do as much as a +3 transmuter, so that suggests some bypassable DR.
2) What weapon suffixes work? I've heard Construct Bane and True Chaos are effective, but haven't tested.
Greater construct bane is best with true seeing on for the few that are displaced.

It looks like they take Pure Good damage.
Might mean they take other alignment damage as a neutral creature.
Definately constructs.....but as far as I can tell nothing gets through their DR.
I assume Maiming damage would apply as well.
And of course Construct Bane damage.

Portals as of right now have an unbypassable dr. Meaning that no matter what weapon you get your first number will be yellow.
Holy, Pure Good, True Chaos, and Construct Bane all provide red additional numbers, but the damage from the weapon itself will still be negated somewhat.

+X True Chaos/Holy .... of Greater Construct Bane
+X True Chaos/Holy .... of maiming/pure good if you are using maiming make sure someone has Ray of Enfeeblement up

Just a note, holy doesn't work because the portals are true netural.

I haven't picked up a decent greater construct bane weapon to use but have been hitting it with the following stats with the sword of shadows:
High: 47
Low: 5
Mean: 34.5

Yea, I find my SoS works better than my construct bane on my fighter. On my rogue I dual wield Adoryns' malice, that seems to do ok.

Since the AC of the Portal is bascially not a factor, just grab ANY greater Construct Bane weapons and swing away. Go ahead, daul weild a Heavy Mace and Kama, it won't make much of difference (for anyone who should even be thinking of dual wielding that is).

Portal stats (on any difficulty, it does not scale):
Race: Construct
Type: Inanimate Object
Alignment: Neutral
CR: 0 (means 0 damage to your weapons so beat on it without a care)
DR: 10/- (you cannot get thru it, even with transmuting)
Imunities: Standard red name imunities, Construct imunities. Imune to all elemenetal damage.
SR: None
Saves: Cannot land save type spells on them, likely all 100+
Strength: Less then 6
What works:
Puregood and Puregood burst (Actually pure evil burst may work also not sure)
True Chaos (possibly True Law also)
Maiming
Construct Bane
Force damage (including magic missles and force missles)
Whats best?
Well if your grinding the quest allot, most likely you will gather enough ingredients for several tier 2 items.. So after you've made what you want, then make a puregood burst weapon, perferably a strong base dmg one with x3 crit like a maul.
Now once fighting a portal, cast ray of enfeeblement on it - which will render it helpless and auto crit (well auto burst/maim in this case), then attack with your puregood burst damage, you will do incredible damage..
2d8 +5 +1d6 (pg) +4d6 (pgburst) every single hit.
Get every character in your group (well heavy melee group with clrs/caster having those wepons also) do at least that dmg or more and the portal will die in less then 6 seconds each.

AH! I almost Forgot, Viscious works great onem as well.... I was bored the other day so I pulle dout my Viscious Longsword of Smiting to beat on the pilars with (Note, I'm a Cleric!)
It was kinda funny to beat the hell out of the portal with the viscious, while getting the Comments "Uh, Steelyn? You OK?" as myhealth bar went down down down.....
Each Portal Took me to about 30-50 hit points by the time we were done. Cast a Quick HEAL on myself and ff to the next Portal.
I always end up with tons of Extra Spell Points after Part 1 anyway so It certainly helped the party overall.

Well my sorc with a 8 str, in groups with no bard or rage, can get small damage on the first number with an adoryn's mace, meaning 4+1d6 can break the dr, which would be impossible if it was dr10/-. I am guessing it has dr 5/-to dr 8/- and dr/10 admantine.

Adoryns malace is agtual 1d6 +2(Weapon is a +2 Lt Mace) +4(Greater COnstruct Bane give +4 against constructs)
So yeah, with no buffs, you could be hitting for 1-2 points of yellow damage.(An 3 if you have a Cleric in the group throw a Prayer.)

Uh, not exactly, that Indicates the devs forgot to make the portals immune to True Chaos like they should be.

Also, the Portals are not Neutral, but have special (read: broken) alignment. True Chaos and Pure Good work, True Law doesn't. Neither Anarchic, Axiomatic, nor Holy work (don't have Evil Burst or Unholy to test).

I'm pretty sure vicious also works, making vicious X of greater construct bane a viable option.
(Of course you have to limit the amount of people in the party using one ;))

That could just mean that the True Law damage (or the Anarchic damage) is what's broken and the rest is working properly. On the other hand, aren't most other constructs immune to pure good and the like?

Triple pos greensteel maul I finding work best. Higher base damage then other weapons and pure good damage AND 8d6 pure good crit damage.

Vicious and maiming are both untyped damage... they work on 100% of the mobs in game.
