I got my character to Barbarain1/Wizard3 last night and was able to get my hands on a +3 Docent. I only have the compiste body and have a lousy 8 dex so I knew my AC wasnt going to be great but is it possible bugged.

10 Base

2 Armor Bonus For Composite Plating
4 Armor Bonus for Mage Armor
---------------------------
Total 4 Armor Bonus

-1 Doge Bonus for low Dex

+4 Shield Bonus for Shield Spell

+3 Enchantment Bonus for Docent

My total AC should be 20 Should it not?
My character sheet shows 18, if I take off my +3 Docent it shows 17, if I put in a +1 Docent it still only shows 17.

Is this bugged (should I submit a bug report?) or am I not calculating this right?

Common issue that some Warforged don't see is that the Docent is an enhancement bonus to your Plating Armor Class. Due to this, Composite Plating and a +3 Docent creates a +5 Armor Class bonus from Armor. This +5 Armor Class from Armor completely overrides Mage Armor.

Another way to look at it is that your +3 Docent gives you +3 Composite Plating (kinda like +2 Leather Armor or +5 Full Plate).

docent and mage armor bonus do not stack.

Thank you for clarifying this, I guess I better start looking for a dragon shard so I can swap in Mithral plating. Only problem is I dislike Spell Failure and not sure what is worse low AC or Spell Failure.

Cast 'shield' instead. It will stack, unless you are holding an actual shield :)

Edit: And for what it's worth, my WF wiz at level 16 has a base AC of 17 wearing a +1 docent of the magi.

Shield is always up. At higher (max) level AC will become less valuable IMO and then I will likley just go fearsome but until 6th-8th level AC makes a diffrense espically when in the frey swing a two handed weapon.

Is Argonnessen always laggy?

Thinking about this as this is a new server and I can't bring in my infinite resource I think I will just try to get to 6th level with poor AC then try and get my hands on a fearsome docent.

Stick to Composite Plating on a WF Arcane. AC Means nothing to a Wizard once you hit level 7 or so anyway.

Stoneskin/Displacement/Jump. Using these three spell in harmony and learning how to use your space bar pretty much make syou invincible..... as long as you have decent hit points anyway......

I agree with Impaqt, my WF Wizard swapped out Mithril for Composite around level 10 or so, with Shield/Stoneskin/Displacement and Repair spells it shouldn't be a problem. Plus it frees up 5 enhancement points for other uses.
