Does stunning blow only work for blunt weapons, or will it work w/ swords, axes etc..?

Thank You

weighted % only comes on blunt weapons.

weighted only comes on blunt weapons as said above and also said above stunning blow works with any melee weapon.

Ive done it with scimitars picks and even daggers.... as well as my hammer that gives me +6 to the manuever.

One last thing..

As long as you have a weighted weapon in your hand.. even your offhand.. You'll get the extra +4 to the save DC of the attack. So you can carry a +8 light hammer in your offhand to get the bonus on your main weapon swing.

Downside? Just the minus to hit.. So just make sure you have power attack off. :) You don't need a -9 total to hit.

The + to the dc depends on the weighted % of the weapon in hand.

Thought I'd sneak a related question in here since we're focused on Stunning Blow. Do you need to make a successful attack for the stunning blow to land (at which point the baddie gets the DC check) or is it pretty much an auto-hit and the only mechanic involved is the saving throw?

p.s. While I love the effect it sure is hard to land it sometimes with the drunken wonky pathing the monsters take. :-p

Just like trip you need to beat their AC then they must make a save against your DC.

Though when the roles are reversed the mobs can trip you without actually hitting you. Its just and auto save thing.

Yes, you do have to make a successful attack roll in order for the stunning blow effect to happen.

Mobs however, sometimes they do and sometimes they don't.... AND they can do the same thing with ranged weapons.

I thought they fixed trip by enemies (dogs being the biggest culprit) to require that they hit before processing the trip save.

Now things like Air Elementals can know you down without hitting you - or it seems that way. But I don't think anything can trip you without hitting you first.

OK I have a lvl 9 Babarian who uses a great axe and I have not seen a single succesful stunning blow on any encounters. I realize it doesn't work on all mobs and if they make a successful DC roll it fails. Im beginning to think it is bugged tbh.

I've used Stunning Blow on Honos with the Sword of Shadows plenty of times.

It isn't bugged. They're just saving.

no they did not. my 50+ ac character still gets tripped often in TR by wolves and hogoblins. nothing on combat log, just (Combat): You have been hit by Improved Trip.

point to add on. why are mobs ie hobgoblins given AOE trips? its plain irritating to see how they can trip 4 party members at one go (only 1 hob involved)

I just ran thru TR, I didn't notice anything of the sort. I got tripped occasionally but not very often, even when they made their trip animation.

Let me repeat myself when it comes to mob trips.

Hobgoblins that do AOE trips are using Halberds, which we do not have access to. They are polearms, and like a PnP Khopesh gets a bonus to trip.

Did you move the button to your hot bar? It is an active feat, and you have to press it like Trip or Sunder.

It's not bugged on my Warrior...

Yep. I click on it everytime before I attack. Not a successful stun yet w/ my great axe.

L9? If you're trying to Stun melee creatures, of course they're saving. It's a Fort save. Try Stunning casters. They have lower Fort saves.

Also; giants tend to make their saves more often due to their high Con (and therefore Fort saves).

You just gotta know your targets' weaknesses.

When you attempt to stun your victim, do you see a "SAVE" message show up on their head? Because I just use my Dwarven Axe / Dagger / Shortsword / Scimitar stun various target in Vale, heck, even my +3 Superior Potency VI Sceptor can stun a spider :p

Here's a combat log taking from stun a Twilight Dog via a +4 Cursespewing Dwarven Axe

(Combat): You attack Twilight Wild Dog. You roll a 9 (+33): you hit!
(Combat): You hit Twilight Wild Dog with Stunning Blow.
(Combat): You hit Twilight Wild Dog for 21 points of slash damage.
(Combat): You hit Twilight Wild Dog with Curse.
(Combat): You attack Twilight Wild Dog. You roll a 14 (+33): you critical hit!
(Combat): Critical hit!
(Combat): You hit Twilight Wild Dog for 58 points of slash damage.
(Combat): You hit Twilight Wild Dog with Curse.

You have to have the mob targeted. Stunning Blow does have a cooldown, if you aren't getting that to go off then Stunning Blow isn't being used. Also, like Trip and Sunder, it has a limited range and if the mob jumps back, they can dodge the swing.

I'm pretty sure either stunning blow, or trip, sunder, sap, doesn't require enemy on your focus orb (or said, been targeted)

The poor twilight dog help prove it again :p

I will have to submit a ticket in game I suppose.

I have targeted the mob hit it successfully but no mention of stunning blow..all I see is mob hit for holy damage, glancing blow blah blah but not a single mention of successful or unsucessful stunning blow. Im baffled.

Kargon have a silly questimion: Are moonglum clicking stunning blow then running up and clicking swing button on mouse, or are moonglum standing right next to the enemamy, clicking stunning blow, and watching the swing that stunning blow genermerate hit the enemamy? because the act of clicking on stunning blow in shortcut bar are what makes the swing that can stun, are not a click stun then swing with mouse combo.

I've actually set up a mouse button to trigger stunning blow, and another for trip. It makes it much easier to fire them off.
